22 Eve of war I.

Moving through the crowd, she searched for new information about the new kingdom, following her king's orders.

Using a magic spell to hide her long ears, infiltrating a kingdom and gathering information was effortless for her, as always.

Reaching out to her king, she provided details about the Kingdom of Anga and sought guidance on how to proceed with the newfound information about Farmus.

‹ Hm, provide an anonymous tip to the King of Anga, ensuring no trace of involvement.› Her king's deep voice resonated in her mind, utilizing "thought communication" for their distant conversation.

‹ As you wish, my lord.› she responded before fading away from the crowd's shadows, disappearing as if she had never been there at all.

During our conversation with some of the guests, I suddenly sensed the use of "thought communication." Intrigued, I discreetly tuned in, expecting to uncover the activities of an infiltrating spy leaking information.

However, the content of what I heard left me utterly astonished. 'War? Farmus? but Why?' I pondered with a frown, nodding at Shizue as we bid our farewells to the guest and proceeded to the throne room.

"It appears that the Kingdom of Farmus has declared war on us," I said with a heavy sigh as I took my seat on the throne. Shizue sat on the throne next to me. It was clear that we would have to take human lives in order to protect other humans.

Shizue, in particular, was burdened by the thought of having to stain our hands with human blood. We had once fought mindless monsters with these very hands, but now we were compelled to destroy monsters in human skin who possess sane minds.

"They are no better than that High Elf who tried to kill us before, and that guy Jahil who killed her for uttering his name," I muttered, my haki slowly but steadily leaking.

A smooth, smaller hand was placed on top of mine, which rested on the throne handle. Shizue offered a slight smile, trying to provide comfort in the face of these troubling thoughts.

"Thank you," I expressed my gratitude, returning her smile, I won't have to worry while I'm with her alright..

In a single night, Karna himself erected a barrier that enclosed the entire Kingdom. The barrier exuded a holy nature, its golden glow enveloping the entirety of Anga. Yet, it still permitted the passage of anyone who posed no threat to his nation or his people.

Despite the fact that the Farmus Kingdom's army had yet to arrive in a week's time, Karna was engrossed in researching the history of his new adversary.

He couldn't shake off his doubts that some demon lord or other malevolent force had influenced the Farmus Kingdom, compelling them to take immediate action against a non-hostile kingdom, one ruled by Heroes. There was something suspicious afoot, and he could sense it.

Meanwhile, Shizue imbued the holy barrier with fire attributes, which would rain down mercilessly upon hostile entities. She had been hesitant at first, but she had come to realize that her responsibility now extended beyond preserving human lives. With a people and a kingdom to protect, she took these necessary measures.

"So King Edgar killed his father and brother to seize the throne?" Karna questioned, peering at the book in his hand as the spy information was being inscribed in real-time.

The book had a matte black, thick cover, which added to its weight. Karna effortlessly picked it up, but for a normal human, it would remain immovable, not budging an inch.

The book's weight wasn't due to its cover but rather the magic cast into it. It possessed real-time information storage magic, and it seemed the kingdom's sorceress was remarkably skilled. Karna and Shizue had yet to meet this sorceress, even though they had heard and witnessed her remarkable abilities.

"What an unsightly bastard," Karna muttered under his breath. He stood up and made his way toward the window, his kingly golden robe billowing behind him. He gazed down at his kingdom and its mortal inhabitants with an unchanging expression.

'That's right. They are mortals. Age will catch up to them, unfortunate accidents might also befall them, that's fine. That's fate. But not a war that will ruin their lives. I will do anything to protect my family and kingdom,' Karna thought, the memory of his and Shizue's wedding flashing through his mind as he made a solemn promise to himself.

Karna's body continued to radiate a golden glow as he made his heavenly promise on his soul. This radiant phenomenon happened because Shizue had agreed with the promise as well. Their souls were interconnected so tightly that they could no longer be separated.

This connection essentially created one powerful soul, with half being his and half being hers, embodying the forces of Yin and Yang, male and female, becoming the most prominent force of nature, creation and destruction.

In the queenly baths, Shizue sat within the hot and steamy water, completely unrobed and unperturbed by any concerns. Her serene form seemed to epitomize the essence of femininity. Such was the beauty of the Queen of Anga.

As she sat there, Shizue occasionally cupped some water in her right palm and gently poured it over her left hand, her eyes closed in serene contemplation.

Suddenly coming to a complete halt for some seconds before a small smile broke out on her face.

"I see... So you've decided to truly shoulder the burdens of our people... I shall join you in that, for you would be lonely without me joining you," she whispered with profound love and devotion, momentarily forgetting that she was agreeing with the prospect potentially slaughtering an entire army.

Her body radiated a golden glow, much like Karna's, signifying her acceptance of the soul promise and demonstrating her complete trust in her heavenly husband.

He smiled to himself as he felt Shizue's agreement. As the king and queen of Anga, they were now fully prepared to engage in war – just the two of them – against an army of 70,000 soldiers.

"I shall destroy it... The army that seeks to harm my Kingdom and home..." Karna whispered as his eyes briefly glowed a golden-red hue.
