Chapter 2 - Jing Liu, The Mysterious Vigilante!

It's been a week since my graduation. I thought I needed to work my back off to gain the position of Inspector, but who would've thought Beatrix had that much power? She immediately got the role of Senior Inspector and snatched me the role of Inspector as well right after our graduation.

I was practically in the perfect position for a liaison role, now all I needed to do was wait for Rhodes Island to arrive and request for a transfer. Perhaps after struggling in the slums for a decade, my luck is finally turning around.

Ignore the fact that Rhodes Island doesn't exist yet. That's right, the year is 1086, and there is no information about Rhodes Island on the Lungmen-net. However, I survived 18 years so far. I just needed to survive for another decade.

Anyway, right now I'm chilling alone in my new apartment that Beatrix gifted me. Always reliable to have a rich friend.

Now that I've finished my struggle…Perhaps I should have some fun in this world?

Jing Liu, the Swordmaster of the Xianzhou Luofo, is arguably one of the most OP people out there. From what I remembered, there were several hidden bosses in Lungmen such as the black rain cloak guys. However, if I don't cause too much trouble, it should be fine to have fun, right?

After ensuring that I locked my door, I activated the system.

[Using Template: Jing Liu]

A myriad of colours surrounded me. Once the blinding radiance calmed down, I could immediately feel a difference in my body.

Aside from the gender change, my senses felt refined. I could feel the way of the sword embedded within my muscles. However, in addition to these benefits, I felt a minor headache.

Perhaps, as I progressed, I would fall further into the grasp of Mara.

Climbing up the sides of a building in the alleyway, I gazed upon the nightlife of the Lungmen districts. I've only seen the bottom skunks of alleyways in the Lungmen slums- it was refreshing to be at the top.

"Hm? Beatrix and Ch'en?" Looking at the LGD convoy headed for the slums, I could identify Beatrix and the Chief Inspector- Ch'en. The latter was easily recognisable since she was in the main cast of the story.

"Ah, this must be the Sarkaz mercenary case," I muttered, noting the utilisation of specialised S.W.A.T units. Beatrix had mentioned that most senior officers were leaving for a large purge of Sarkaz mercenaries in the slums.

Previous excursions had massive LGD casualties, so I opted to stay back for this operation. Who would've guessed that this would result in the perfect opportunity to test my skills as Jing Liu?

I can't be sure this would follow the canon either. This might just be my paranoia speaking, but who knows? My existence could've resulted in a Kal'tsit that smiles.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

After following the convoy for an hour, I noticed a massive explosion that launched two of the heavily armoured vehicles into the air. The Sarkaz mercenaries were anticipating the LGD's arrival.

As the LGD exited the vehicle to engage in combat with the Sarkaz mercenaries, I conjured an ice blade and circled the perimeter. There were several Sarkaz crossbowmen, whom I silently took care of.

As Jing Liu, I was able to travel at an unparalleled speed. It took less than 10 minutes for me to backstab and eliminate every visible crossbowmen.

Looking back at the situation on the ground, I spotted Ch'en seamlessly shredding through the mercenaries. On the other hand, Beatrix was commanding other LGD officers whilst handling her drones.

With a bloodied icicle in hand, I leapt off the roof of a slum hut and headed straight behind Ch'en. With a singular slash, the 7-foot-tall mercenary collapsed.

Immediately, Ch'en directed her sword to my back as the atmosphere further tensed thanks to my arrival.

"Who are you?" Ch'en questioned.

"I'm but a wandering piece- one who lost its place on the board," I replied, getting into character. Without waiting for Ch'en, I proceeded to test a few ice skills on the mercenaries.

Seeing that we had a common enemy, Ch'en and the LGD continued their fight against the mercenaries. After a few minutes, the fight was evidently over as mercenaries became further disorganised and fearful.

"Excuse me. We need you to return with us for an interview," one of the LGD officers walked up to me.

"I apologise, but I must be on my way here. My debt remains unpaid to Lungmen." Before the officer could say anything more, I dashed away. I noticed Beatrix sending some drones after me, but it didn't take long to lose them and return to my apartment.

"Phew, that was fun. How is my progress?"

[Jing Liu's Progress: 1%]

"This is going to take quite a while…" I muttered, feeling a wave of tiredness wash over me.

As I was about to head to bed, my phone rang. Swire was calling me. Surely, I didn't miss any of her drones, right?

"Hello?" I answered the call.

"Listen to this Liwei! Ch'en, [insert some very foul Lungmen swears]. Also, there's someone that I need you to investigate someone. I'll send you footage tomorrow-" Listening to the wave of emotions, I couldn't help but chuckle.

"What are you laughing at?"

"It's nothing," I replied, feeling a sense of relief that my identity was still hidden.

Ever since we met in the academy, we had a tradition where Beatrix vented her frustrations to me. It was very cute to watch since she looked like an angry cat. However, if I had to guess, the person I would have to investigate is me. Is this a Peter Parker moment?
