4 Aurora's travel preparations

When Aurora woke up, she felt much better...

It was a lie, she still felt terrible. She had no idea how to fix her problems. When someone had a problem, people usually said something like: talk about it with your parents or your friends, but she couldn't do something like that.

First of all, her parents wouldn't listen and the butler would most probably not even try to translate. Secondly, she had no friends to talk to, even the internet as a whole hated her. Maybe she could consider her new budding-saurian as a friend but she could not really speak to it, much less take advises from it.

Then, what was even the point? They couldn't fix her problem, the whole world hated her and her dreamscape was much better than her real life. What could grownups possibly do about this?

Then, she also had to deal with the fact that she had no way to really communicate with her own battle monster. "Become a great trainer!" Her dad said. "Feel the world and learn its workings, when you'll be ready, it's you who will inherit the company, you have much to learn. Resolve your problems on your own, it's the only way to get stronger. Endure the hardships and come through." Was this one of the hardships he spoke about? Being unable to teach her own pet?

She got off from her bed and started to stroll down barefoot in the corridor towards the nearest bathroom. Her father was annoyed at her every time she walked barefooted but she loved the feel of the cold floor under her naked feet so she ignored his complaints.

going back to her thoughts, she didn't even know if those other memories where dreams or not. If they were, everything would be fine but if they were somehow real, things would get much worse than they were now. After all, living her normal life trying to do her best and surviving ten years were two completely different things. In her other memories, she seemed to think it would be incredibly easy. Now, she knew better. If that thing wanted her to survive, surely it would put some form of danger to make it challenging wouldn't it? After all, it was heartless enough to rip her away from her peaceful life and force her onto something else. Surely it was cruel enough to do worse than making her mute. This scared her greatly.

She arrived in the bathroom and closed the door behind her. She poured herself a bath, threw her dress on the floor and entered the warm water. She loved to take baths, it felt so comfortable, she never wanted to get out. She knew that her mother liked to take baths too but she never poured it for herself. She had other peoples do it for her so that when she was ready, she could immediately get in.

Inside the bath, she thought for a long while about what she had to do. She had to train her lizard somehow to understand her signs. She also had to find a way to travel without fearing the people who accused her of getting rid of their jobs. She wanted to get rid of the nickname the internet had given her too but that one was hopeless so she decided to ignore it until it went away on its own.

In the end, she did not think of something satisfying for the lizard's training but she did get an idea for her trip. Her father had said he wanted her to travel but he never specified where. She only had to choose to travel to another region, anywhere would do. Surely, she wouldn't be followed by an angry mob all the way across the planet right? It was a perfect plan, she only had to stay away from all of them until things cooled down. She felt really proud of her idea.

She got out of her bath, wrapped a towel around herself and walked all the way back to her room to get herself a new dress. After all, the one she had removed earlier was the one from the day before. Her mother would no doubt appear out of nowhere to play with her hair and would notice immediately that she was still wearing the same dress. She put on another white dress and decided to call her lizard until her mother appeared or the time for breakfast came.

She got her ball from the bed table and pressed the opening button making her lizard appear. He looked just as sleepy as yesterday but she could feel it wasn't really the case, he just looked like that. Speaking of looks, she could now see that the budding-saurian she saw in her dream cartoons didn't look like hers at all. In the cartoon, they looked like a spotted frog with a bulb on top and a giant stupid mouth. Hers was much more adorable.

First of all, its skin wasn't of a sick teal like the cartoon one. Instead it had rough scales in so many shades of brown green and blue, she felt fascinated by their patterns. Then, of course, it looked like a big lizard instead of a frog and she much preferred a dry lizard to a slimy frog. The plant on its back seemed to painfully dig its roots on its back but it did not care at all. It had cute red sleepy eyes and small sharp teeth that made him look like a vampire.

She crouched in front of it to be of its height and they both looked at each other eyes for a time. She felt it was cute and patted it's head in between the spikes on each side of it. In return, it squinted it's eyes in pleasure. She wasn't sure if it was a boy or a girl but it did not matter to her, she had decided, it was her friend.

As she was thinking this, she got a sudden idea, maybe if she mimicked what she wanted, it would do it? It was worth a try at least. She had to start from something simple to test her idea. She didn't know much about battle-monsters, so she had to check the peardex or the internet for help if she wanted to know what kind of ability it was supposed to have. "There is a lot." She noticed once her p-dex was opened. Of course she knew some where really hard to learn and it would take it a long time to be able to use them but there was a couple of easy ones too.

She made him a (follow me) sign and was about to get out of the room when her mother invited herself in. She had already forgot that she was waiting for her to appear. She felt disappointed. If she had only been a little faster she could have escaped her.

"Oh dear" She said with a hand in front of her mouth. "What happened to your hair! Did you not comb them today."

Of course not! Thought Aurora. If she did this every day, she would lose way too much time, she had more important stuff to do than to comb her hair.

"Here" Her mother said. "Sit down in front of your mirror, I will do it for you."

She was now stuck, it would take at least an hour before her mother released her. She hadn't even eaten yet! She tried to slip away but her mother easily caught her.

"Now now, don't be vulgar dear. Stay here with me, you'll have fun, you'll see."

She always said something like that but it was always false. She just played with her hair and Aurora had no say in how they would end up. Dispirited, she let her mom drag her to the chair and sat in front of her mirror. In it, she could see a young girl with light skin and a thin frame.

Her long blonde hair was still wet and fell heavily across her face, hiding it from view.

"Oh my" Her mother said. "Your hair is wet, did you just get out of the bath?"

Of course, she did not expect an answer. She grabbed them all with expert hands and dragged them behind Aurora's head to brush them, revealing her face. Brown eyes, cute lips tightly closed in annoyance, small round nose and a pair of ordinary round eyebrows. As expected, it was her normal face. Nothing had changed except her eyes were still a little red from all the crying. It wasn't that obvious tough, she did not expect her mom to notice it, she was too engrossed in her hair to care. To complete her portrait, her teeth were good and there were no blemishes on her face. Would it still be the same in ten years? Her mother didn't care.

"What will we do with your hair today? Tails, braids, a bun? Maybe if we dragged them on the side like that we could do something a little more special."

Her mother must have been a hairdresser before she married her father. Or a stylist maybe, she was always using her as a test subject. Was it because she was really bored that she stretched her 'hair-time' for far too long every day?

Suddenly, something bumped on her dangling bare feet. It was her lizard, bumping it's head on her leg. Surely it was confused of what was going on. She smiled at it and tried to bend down to pat it's head again but her mother yanked her back in place by using her hair.

"Don't move like that dear, you are going to ruin your hair style."

Aurora didn't care much for her hair style. She threw a saddened look at her friend and rubbed the side of its head with her big toe. Feeling playful, the lizard nibbled weakly at her toes. It tickled way too much! She squirmed on her chair by reflex to escape the sensation.

"Dear I just told you, don't do that!" Reprimanded her mother. "And you, budding-saurian, don't think that I did not see you there. Stop distracting her and go elsewhere."

The lizard felt sad from this and so, Aurora felt sad too. She shot an angry look at her mom and signed.

(Budding-saurian is my friend, and my battle monster, he doesn't have to listen to you.)

"Darling, stop your monkey imitation. You know I only see finger squiggles when you do that. Could you not write down what you want to say like a civilized person instead?"

Aurora felt even more frustrated. Was she supposed to go everywhere with a pen in her hand? At worse, she only had to walk to her desk to pick a piece of paper and a pencil. If her mother really wanted to listen she only had to let her get up!

Also, why was it all up to her? She already learnt both the sign language and their language, why couldn't her mother learn it too? Was it really this inconvenient? Since she couldn't talk to her mother, she tried to tell her friend to stay but he did not understand her signs either. She stretched her legs to him but they were too short to reach him and stop him. She helplessly watched as her battle monster went to stand pitifully in the corner of the room.

"Speaking of monkey, where is your butler dear?"

Aurora had no idea where he was, like most of the time. She shrugged to answer the question.

"Oh sweetheart, you're not going to go far in life if you can't even control a single butler. It should be easy for you, you're your father's daughter after all."

Aurora wasn't quite sure of what it meant. Was she supposed to be good at controlling things? She couldn't even get one sentence to them.

"If Hergis was there, he could take care of your battle monster while I do your hair. If only he could be where he is supposed to be more often and if he did not try to get in my pants so often, he wouldn't be such a bad butler."

Aurora did not much care for the butler who did not much care for her either. But, she thought it would have been pretty funny to see the butler trying on her mother's pants. Thinking about it, it was really rare to see her mother wearing pants. She usually wore long dresses, skirts or swimsuits. Where did Hergis find those pants? Seeing Aurora display a puzzled look through the mirror. Her mother seemed to think she said something she shouldn't have.

"I'm sorry dear, it's not something someone your age should hear about. Please forget what I just said and let's focus on your hair. Don't tell your father either."

The face of her mother had become a little red and her aura a little purple. She did not know why she had to keep this secret but her mother had nothing to worry about, it would be really hard to tell her father even if she wanted to. Maybe she should really start going around with a pen and some paper.

Discarding the vision of Hergis trying on her mother's garments, she started to think about the other thing her mother had said. Even if she was annoyed by her mother and she did not want to admit that she had a point, she did.

She needed to be more than she was right now if she wanted to one day take the place of her father. She needed to stop being a puppet to everyone and everything around her. No one took her seriously even for half a second. Until now she did not care much about being led this way and that by her parents but she realized that it was not only them.

Of course, they were the worst offenders, mainly her mother, but there was also that fake god who just did what he wished of her in her dream, random conspirators who made her appear evil, life itself that had prevented her from getting a voice, even the simple butler had never really cared for her.

She had hoped before that everything in her life would fix itself someday but maybe it was wrong. Maybe she had to do everything herself. Or maybe her parents were right and she had to find a way to make the world obey her will. Her father had once told her; "There are only two ways to make people obey you. One is to be so strong or scary that they have no choice but to do so. The second is to make them love or respect you so much that they would do anything to gain your favor. You would think money is a third option but it is not, those who are only there for money are prone to betrayals." He annoyed her often but what he said was often valuable.

As her mother continued to say nonsense and played with her hair. She thought about how to bring things around her into her control. For now, it was definitely impossible for her to scare someone into obeying her. A small girl in a white dress would never scare someone, and she definitely wasn't strong either.

Maybe if she trained her budding-saurian hard he would become a very big and very strong flowering-saurian. It would take a very long time and there were many people who could defeat a flowering-saurian. To be the strongest, she would need a complete team of strong battle monsters but that was not really what she wanted. What she wanted was to have a bunch of friends. No one wanted to be friends with someone scary.

Maybe the second option would be better for her then. What did she have to do exactly? Everyone loved actresses and singers, should she become an actress? Would people do as she says then? She felt like it probably wasn't what her father had in mind when he told her that. She needed to take her father's place later, she had no time to become an actress. What's more, she was starting with a handicap, the video on the internet. Who would follow the little frozen witch? Maybe she should ask him about it.

In the end, her hair ended up strangely again. Her mother had made two pairs of braids in total, all starting towards the front of her head and going around it all the way to the back in a large hanging curve. Once in the back, they all united together with the remainder of her hair and made what she would describe as a big head flower. She wasn't quite sure how to describe it but it really was like a big flower, or more like a bow made of hair. Her mother made the whole thing stick in place with a long white pin. Or was it a stick?

Proud of her work, her mother took a picture from the back, the side and the front, like always. She quickly sent a copy to her daughter phone.

"Here, I sent you the pictures, put them with the rest. I wish you understood that I'm doing this for you. One day you will be glad I spent all this time making up your hair. Now, when you will be out on your journey, you'll be able to tell the hairdresser you go to what kind of hairstyle you want just by showing him a picture."

Or alternatively, she could just choose to not go to an hairdresser at all.

"I know you prefer to listen to your dad more than listening to me but my advises are as good as his, they are just not on the same topics."

What advises? Aurora thought, you always talk about hair and makeup!

"Since you're so jumpy today, I will let you go like this. You seem to be in a hurry."

Aurora smiled at her, jumped down from the chair and ran outside with the reawakened budding-saurian, leaving her mother standing in her room.

Her budding-saurian thought it was at last time to play but no, she first went to the kitchen to get her breakfast. Even if she could not talk to them, the cooks were alright. They smiled most of the time, made good food and were polite towards her which was much better than her butler already. When she got to the kitchen, she tugged on the sleeve of one of them to get his attention.

"Oh! hello miss Aurora. Are you here for breakfast? What would you like to eat this morning?"

She decided to first point out her budding-saurian.

"You want to eat your budding-saurian?" The cook joked.

She made a silent laugh and shook her head to tell him no.

"Oh! I see, you want me to get something to eat for your small friend?"

She nodded with a smile. He was exactly right.

"Well, I'm sure we can find him something. What about you?"

The staff of the kitchen had conveniently hanged pictures of what they were willing to make for her on a part of the wall nearby. She only had to point at the one she wanted. She chose pancakes.

"Pancakes huh? We can make that for sure. It will be ready in a jiffy. Just wait a moment in the dining room, I will bring both of your lunches shortly."

She smiled at him once again and went back to the dining room.

While waiting for the cook to make her some pancakes and find something to eat for her lizard, she sent a text message to her father using her p-gear.

<Father, I need to speak to you about many things. Would you have time to receive me today?>

She received his reply shortly after.

<Of course dear, come see me whenever you are ready. Just out of curiosity, what will be the subject?>

She answered: <My travel.> And he finished with: <Good, I will see you later then sweetheart.>

She put her phone back in her small bag and played with her friend while waiting.

In no time at all, the cook came back with a plate for her and a bowl for the lizard.

"Here you go small miss. I'm sure you will like them."

She was sure of it too, she always liked them. She signed (thank you) to him and gave him a big smile. He had worked here for a long time, he did not speak the sign language but (thank you) he understood for having seen it so many times.

"It's always a pleasure to cook for you. Come get me if you need something else."

She nodded and immediately started to savor her breakfast. Her friend too seemed to like his food as he quickly devoured it.

After her quick and delicious meal, she shot up from her seat and ran halfway to her father's study before she remembered she didn't have shoes on and went back to her room again. Her father would be so displeased if he saw her barefoot again. She quickly put on her shoes and ran to the study again. Just as she was about to knock on the door, she thought of something.

(I'm sorry budding-saurian, I'll play with you later.)

She got it's ball out and recalled it before knocking on the door. It probably wasn't a good idea to let it enter her father's study. She knocked.

"Aurora? Come in."

She opened the gigantic door and entered the room. This was the room he was in the most often. On both the left and right sides, there were big bookshelves and portraits hanging on the walls. On each corner of the room, a big potted plant gave a little green touch to this otherwise warm and brownish room.

The floor was made in thick wood boards and the furniture was carved with many details she had spent hours detailing with her eyes and her fingers. In the middle of the room, a large desk full of paper and baubles was separating the visitor's side from his.

Behind the desk, a big chair kept her father comfortable and a long way further, an enormous window let the daylight in.

She advanced trough the room and stood in front of the desk. Her head was just high enough to stand above it. She felt really stressed out, it was not every day she talked to her father in is study.

He felt different there, less silly, more intelligent. She, in fact, liked him better here than when he talked to her outside, he just made more sense here, he felt more real, more himself.

He looked at her with his serious eyes, so unlike the outside him. It made her nervous but it also reassured her. Whatever she would tell him while he was like that, he would take it seriously and always said very cool things while in that chair. That was why she liked him better like this, he would for sure resolve her problem and maybe give her more valuable advice. The only thing she needed to do was to tell him what was on her mind and she had come prepared for that.

"So, what is it you wanted to ask sweetheart."

He had called her sweetheart but his face expressed no smile, no joy, no emotion. It felt so scary, so cool. She got her phone out again, showed it to him and typed him her questions. First of all, she would ask him about the video.

<Did you see the video?>

"What video?" Her father asked after he read her message.

<The one of our dinner the other night in which I tell you to fire everyone.>

"There was a moment like that?"

<Yes, but you did not understand what I said and just pretended to in order to not hurt my feelings. Right after you really did fire half of the people working for you and now everyone think it's my fault if they lost their jobs.>

"I see... What is the question?"

<There is no question, I taught it would be dangerous to go on a journey here while everyone is angry at me so I would like to go to another region for my trip.>

"Oh, I see, and you want my approval."

<Yes.>

"Did you already decide where you want to go?"

<Not yet, do you have a suggestion?>

Her father taught for a moment before answering.

"I don't think I should give you my opinion. It is part of your test after all. You have to make all the choices and all the thinking by yourself or it defeats the purpose."

She chose to not inquire further on this because she knew it would lead nowhere.

<Then my next question. I would like advice on how to train my budding-saurian. By the way, I love it, thank you for choosing this one.>

She saw the corner of his mouth twitch as if to give a smile but it was so brief, she almost taught she had imagined it. If not for the color of his aura, she wouldn't have known he felt happy about it.

"What kind of advice would you like? I thought battle monster training was pretty straight forward."

<It should be, but without a voice I can't give proper commands. I thought about associating gestures to orders but now, I fear it may be impractical. It would always have to look behind itself to see my commands, distracting it in a fight.>

"I see you thought far into it, even if you teach it sign language, it would be impossible for you to give him commands in a heated battle, the moment you let the opponent get out of your sight is the moment you lose usually. You are right in thinking that teaching it sign language would instead be a hindrance but you missed something important."

<What is it?> She asked, eager to know.

"Your mouth is not the only way you can make sounds."

She instantly got confused.

<How else?>

"That one question I won't answer, you have to think about it yourself, I can only point you in the right direction."

She felt a little disappointed but she understood what he meant to do. If she could not find the answer on her own, she would only be following his words again. Speaking of following, she wrote.

<The last thing on my mind is this: how do I make people do what I want? You once told me that there was two way to do this. One is to make them fear me and the other is to make them love me. I am not scary and I am not strong, the first is impossible. But I don't understand the second, do I have to become an actress to make people obey me?>

"There are many things wrong with what you just told me." Her father said. "But first, why is it you want people to do what you say?"

<I don't want to let mother play with my hair anymore and I want Hergis to listen to me for once. It is supposed to be his job after all.>

"I see, you are not quite ready yet... Still, I will answer your question and help you out so once you understand what it means to have authority, you will be ready."

Authority? It had nothing to do with this tough, she just wanted to not be a doll anymore.

"There are many things you misunderstood about that so I will explain it clearly to you."

This is what she had been waiting for, when he was like this, he always said something useful.

"The first thing you need to understand is that the first method I talked about isn't about strength, it's about power. Physical strength can of course be a form of power but there are many others. It can be a strong battle monster, incredible knowledge or anything else that makes you above the rest. As long as you are number one in something, the rest of the people involved in this thing have no choice but to listen to you because you are the very best and your words gain incredible value."

Aurora didn't interrupt her father, she just listened carefully. Even if he sometimes said things she didn't immediately understood, it would always come in handy later.

"This is the method I use and my power is of course money. If you remember what I once told you, you will know that money isn't an effective way to control people because anyone could give them more money at any time for them to betray you.

My trick is that I do not give them money in exchange of some service, I just take theirs if they don't comply to my will. You don't want to work? Fine, no job for you and without a job, no money for you. Where else could they possibly go? I control all of the industry of the region. This is power. Money moves at my will and the world follows it.

There are many other kinds of power, some come with a title that tells you exactly who you are in front of, like prime minister for example or police chief. Both have authority over most people just because they possess the title to do so. Gym leader are also of that kind, by their peak knowledge over a very specific group of battle monster, they achieved mastery and authority over all things related to that group.

That type of power can be very strong but it can also be very limited, it all depends on the power you control and whom it affects. For example, a parent have right over their children by their titles of father and mother but they can't control the child of someone else or any grownup. The whole trick is to find a way to prove that no one could possibly go against you in a specific thing like fighting, money or even something simple like music."

This felt like a lot of information but she understood what her father wanted to tell her. It had nothing to do with being scary or strong. He only meant to say that if she was the best dancer that ever existed for example, no one would dare argue that she was wrong if she said something about dance. This was also why she couldn't go against her mother's words. She would always have power over her simply for being her mother.

"The second method is still a form of power but a more gentle one. It has nothing to do with actresses. Of the two it is the most complicated but also the most reliable. Some people use this kind of power to get to the first method faster and others use it to gain control over a very small amount of people who will never betray them no matter what. You can even combine both, there is nothing that forbids you to do so."

After that sentence. he seemed to think about how to continue for a small time before he asked her.

"Is there someone here that always does as you ask? Someone who you think of as kind?"

She thought for a moment and answered her father the only thing that came to her mind.

<The cook.>

"The cook? That wasn't the answer I expected but we can work with this. Which one?"

That was a hard question, she did not know the names of the cooks and they all wore the same thing in the kitchen. <The bald one with brown eyes.> She answered.

"I see, how different is he from the rest of the staff?"

<He always make the food I want.>

"But that is just his job is it not?"

<Hergis never does his job, they all ignore me but not the cooks.>

"Then tell me, how exactly does it go when you want something to eat, tell me what happens in details."

<I go to the kitchen and I tug at the sleeve of the bald one. He greets me with a smile and ask me what kind of food I want. They placed images of the recipes on the wall so I only have to point at it. He tell me that he will do it and I wait in the dining room. He brings me the food and I thank him.>

"How does he react when you thank him?"

<He smiles and tells me it's always a pleasure to serve me.>

"Since you can see auras, you must know, is he lying?"

<No he is not, he smiles and he seems happy that I like his food.>

"You see, this is the second method at work. It is all about empathy and sympathy."

<I do not understand those two words father.>

"Empathy is the thing you use to understand the people around you, sympathy is the good emotions you feel about them. You see, the first time you went to see him, he probably welcomed you by reflex like anyone would do. But then, you answer is greeting with a big smile because no one ever tells you welcome or good morning isn't that right?"

She nodded, she always smiled at him when he greeted her, she loved how kind he was.

"Then, what do he see? He sees a small cute and polite girl, and she is clearly hungry. This is where Empathy comes in. This is something you must learn to do effectively. Most people do it by reflex but if you pay more attention to it you can get so much more out of it. What he does when he sees you appear is, he puts himself in your shoes.

Not your real shoes of course, it's an expression. He ask himself how it would feel to be you, just by reflex. Of course, the first thing he understands about you is that you are hungry. Being a cook, he knows how important food is. Who wouldn't want to help a cute girl? Of course, he asks you if you want to eat, that is sympathy, he feels sorry that you are hungry and wants to help."

Maybe, she thought, she never felt it was this complicated.

"At the end, when he brings you food, he can clearly see that he helped you out and how happy you are about it. He can see you love his food and appreciate his work, you even thank him. Out of all the peoples in this mansion, you must be the only one who thank him for his hard work."

That was probably true she felt. People here were all alone even when all together.

"His kindness was repaid by more kindness so he feels happy too. As long as you love his food and thank him for it, he will continue to make good food for you and smile to you, because he loves you."

Did he?

"Not some kind of family love or romantic love like lovers, not even the kind of love you feel towards a singer or the likes. He just likes you as a friend."

A friend? Did she have a friend all this time without even noticing. It was true that he was the best but she never paid much attention to any of the cooks. She somehow felt bad about it. Maybe she should apologize to him for not being a good friend.

"Maybe he likes to make children smile or maybe he as a daughter of his own and you make him the same smile she does. Either way, he feels warmth in his heart when you like his food. This is what the second method to control people is all about. When you meet someone, you need to get in their shoes, ask yourself, who they really are and what do they want. Sometimes, it seems very simple but it is much harder than what you would expect. People are never exactly how you think they are. You have to look at the world trough many different pairs of eyes to see what is really going on. Take my desk for example. When you look at it from where you are, it seems smooth but from this side, you see there is a bunch of drawers in it."

It was true, both sides were completely different.

"When you meet someone new, you only see the front side of him. As if he were a desk. If you do not try to see the world from another pair of eyes, you will never notice the drawers. You have to ask yourself, if you were that person, what is it you would feel right now? You have to ask yourself, if I looked at him from the point of view of this other person, what would I see. When the cook looks at you he sees a cute but hungry girl but when your mother looks at you, she sees her rebellious daughter who always pout when she does her hair."

Did she really pout when her mother did her hair? She could not remember.

"Both of those observations are true but both are incomplete. You have to work hard and spend a lot of time and effort on someone to know more faces of them. Sometimes you have to peek inside the drawers to know what they hide inside of them, good or bad. This is how you make true friends and close confident. This is how you make loyal retainers and trustworthy allies. As you spend so long together, you learn of each other and what they desire. You help them and they help you."

<What does it have to do with friendship?> She wrote.

"Almost all of it! You would never betray a friend would you? If you need help, who do you ask? Friends of course, or family, both are really similar in this matter. You never truly control them but that is not relevant because they always walk beside you, share your goals and always help out when they can. With friends, you always receive but you also always have to give back, like how you reward the cook with a tank you and a smile. You both feel happy for each other and share sadness too. You can share absolutely anything with the greatest of friends.

An actress can't get this kind of power from people she never met. Sure some people will do crazy things for an actress but none would put themselves at risk for someone they don't know and don't truly love or respect. That form of power does not work on many people, there is a limit on how many real friends you can have because it is impossible to give so many people the time they deserve.

A friend can grow distant if you don't make efforts too and some will hurt you because they have a different point of view from you but those few true friends you have will never go against you willingly. This is true power, hard to get and very useful. Of course, I took friends for example but like the first category, there are many kinds. Lovers are in this category, family too and sometimes, powerful devotion can lead to the same result but all of those share the same rule of give and take.

The thing you have to remember with this is that those you "control" with this will sometimes have as much, if not more control over you than you do over them. If you choose your friends well, you don't have to be scared of this. For the first method, you sit on other peoples back while for the second method, you stand together with others. Do you understand?"

She nodded. It sure was a long explanation but she finally got it. Friends were what she wanted and friends were what she needed. Maybe the rest would someday become useful too, like all the other things he said, so she engraved it all in her memories.

<Thank you father, you really helped me.>

"Then are we done?"

<Yes.>

"Then decide where you want to go and tell me on the morning of your departure. I will take care of the rest. This is probably one of the last advice I will give you before your journey, don't waste it. Maybe you should think of it all while listening to some music to calm yourself."

<Of course father, thank you. I will not waste your advises.>

Afterward, she left to think about how to train her battle monster once again and think about where to go.

Once she had left, her father, curious of what had happened went to the internet and found the video. He watched it with all his attention and then closed his computer again. There were many questions that now troubled him. How did they get such a video? What was the goal of such a thing? Most importantly, what he wanted to know was: Who was stupid enough to anger him like so? He would put every single one of his men on this if he had to but he would have his answers.
