CHAPTER 68

[Tristan Hayes POV]

After helping Allison get out of whatever episode it was that she went through, we both located Malia looked fed up, judging from her expression, most likely because she failed to find any of them like I did.

"Where did you suddenly run off to?" Allison asked Malia.

"Uhm, bathroom?"

At least Allison seems to believe her poor lie as she dropped the question and got into a conversation with Malia.

Looking at Malia, I could tell that she was free of the effects the wolfsbane would have had on her due to the over-diluted remnants in her body so that was one less thing to worry about.

I made my way to Danny and had to interrupt his conversation with a boy. "Sorry for the interruption but have either of you seen McCall or Jackson?"

"Scott? I think Coach banned him from coming due to his failing grades and as for Jackson, who knows? Probably having a good time with some girl."

Well that was a bust. I don't have it in me to start interrupting the numerous sex that was happening in the school just because of Jackson. Hopefully he doesn't kill whoever he's having sex with due to his heightened excitement.

Did I overreact after finding out the drinks were laced with wolfsbane? Hmm, I don't think so because Malia was poisoned and if I hadn't known in time, we would have been ousted to the Hunters waiting outside.

I returned to Malia and Allison and tried having fun in the party, not that I had any other choice after they pretty much forced me to.

The party ended in the middle of the night with no accidents happening and by the time it ended, Allison was back to being her perky self which was the goal of the night. So at least that was one thing that went according to plan.

While we were leaving, I could feel a stare intently gazing in our direction and a sneaky glimpse at that direction made me realize why.

Chris Argent was fuming as he saw Allison coming out of the party. Her night out was busted and she had no idea and was happily oblivious because there was no way I was telling her.

Despite my initial reservations, I have to admit that the party did help in helping me relax a little, probably more so if not for the Hunters lying around in wait.

Even Boyd had a good time since he was invited to a few dances despite his closed off nature.

On getting to Allison's house, I could feel that someone was awake and I also caught a smell of her mom inside the room which confirmed my suspicion of her being busted.

I excused myself calmly and escaped through the window when I felt her mother making her way towards her room and got in my car and zoomed off.

…..

I woke up the next day by a call from Brett and before I could ask why he was calling me so early on a weekend, he told me something entirely different.

[Check the thread I sent you]

Not understanding the reason for the urgency in his voice, I put him on hold before clicking on the link which was from the county's paper and I immediately understood why he sounded like that.

'Hale Fire Arson? Police department solves case after 6 years'

The headline was the only thing I needed to know what the entire page was about so I don't bother reading the rest.

"It was bound to happen at some point, Brett. And besides, she's already dead. She deserves every bad thing that happens to her name." I told him my most honest thoughts.

[Well, I agree with you but how do you think she's going to take it?]

I groaned as he said that. Obviously she's going to be a wreck but there's nothing I can do or am willing to do in this scenario.

Kate was crazy for burning up innocent children and even unawakened betas for whatever reason she conjured up in that head of hers and I'm going to be the last person to tell Allison that her aunt was a good person or even try to defend her name.

"Honestly, I don't care how she takes this. My sentiments for her aside, I will not be saying a word concerning Kate's death to her. If she wants to grieve about her aunt or a psychotic murderer, then it's her choice."

[Damn bro. Well I should have at least half expected something like this from you. Talk to you later, just called to give you a heads up]

I let out a sigh as Brett cut the call, something I've been doing a lot lately.

Detangling myself from Malia's embrace, I wore only a pair of joggers and went out with my top bare.

Ever since last night at the party, I couldn't stop myself from thinking about what I suddenly found myself being able to do after sucking almost all of Malia's blood.

Even now standing outside, my senses could still capture the steady flow of blood through her entire body but other than that there was nothing I could do about it, but I had the feeling that mine would be different. The call I got from mine was far louder, almost like an audible whisper than the faint echo I got from everybody else.

I focused everything I had on myself but apart from the clear and new mystical connection I had with it, I can't seem to do anything else about it. It felt as if something was blocking me from figuring out what it wanted to tell me.

I spent over an hour trying to understand what it was that I was missing and how to get over the block but so far it yielded nothing, that was until a stray thought entered my head.

'What if I'm the one causing the block, like literally and physically?'

Without even taking a second to think it through, I used one of my claws to open a long and deep enough cut on my other arm and watched with rapt attention as blood flowed out, trying to gleam anything I could from it.

Feeling the blood more clearly now, it felt like it was humming. I stood transfixed as I stared at my own blood flowing out while consciously slowing down my regeneration. On instinct, I used my other hand to brush against the open wound and it was when I pulled my hand back that I clearly saw it.

Droplets of blood clogging together and instead of flowing down the side of my arm, they were actually floating upwards as if having an unknown force acting on them.

I looked at my other hand and sure enough the blood there was not falling down but just hung around my palms like a very viscous liquid.

I watched stunned as the blood slowly tried to follow the motions of my hand as if they were drawn to it.

"Something tells me this wasn't what grandma had in mind when she said I should try and discover my innate abilities."

The connection couldn't be more clearer as I understood why the blood was calling out to me. It felt as if I was finally given the present I was owed after so long. It felt unimaginably natural.

After calming myself down from the exhilaration of the novel experience, I started experimenting with it which made me finally understand with a clear mind that as it was, this ability of mine was currently useless in its practicality.

I had ideas concerning it but they all would have to wait until I could freely control my blood and maybe even harden them and use them as some sort of coating.

Right now the movement of the blood was too slow, only slightly faster than a snail's pace but that was okay. Like everything else, it will require time and dedication before I can make it as useful as I want it to be.

The wound immediately closed up as I released the hold I had on it. "Handy." I said as I saw how fast the blood on my arms receded back into my hands as the wound closed.

Thinking of Malia's face once I told her about this, I smiled and went back inside. I could continue training for the whole day to get a good grasp on my new blood control but breakfast calls.

I spent a few minutes whipping up a quick breakfast and seeing that Malia still wasn't awake, I made my way to our room and saw her tightly hugging my pillow.

"Breakfast's ready, wake up."

"…Coming."

"Can you stop being so lazy first thing in the morning?" It was a rhetorical question as I don't expect any kind of answer from her except some grumbles.

I picked her up in my arms and rolled my eyes at how she snuggly shifted her body in my arms for comfort.

She ended up sitting on my lap throughout breakfast while I fed the both of us. It was a very peaceful morning… at least until I told her about the two things I found out this morning.
