6 Chapter Six

The next night I awoke next to Louey who was holding me in his sleep. His arms held me tightly, as if he feared that someone would snatch me from his grasp. I drew myself closer to him and nuzzled my head under his chin. He stirred in his sleep, holding me even closer.

"The night has come. We have much to do". He muttered in my ear drowsily.

"Agreed but first you let me go then. Your grasp is too strong for me to break". I said as I rubbed my forehead on his smooth chin. He then released me and sat up. I uncoiled myself and went to the bathroom.

"I'm sorry if I was keeping you from relieving yourself." I heard Louey say as I closed the door behind me .

"It's okay. " I replied as I finished and washed my hands then quickly changed my clothes.

When I had returned to the room Louey had gotten up and was now waiting on me by the door.

" Come, I will explain on the way." He said as he opened the door and made his way to the car. I followed him and got in.

"We are heading back to my house, yes that may not be the wisest choice of action but we have to return for your parents funeral." He said as he started the car.

"I sat in silence for a moment.  Then I spoke. "How will there be a funeral…..  there was nothing left…" I said as I fought back tears.

"Your parents were Hunters. The other hunters have to pay their respects.".Louey said as he got on the road.

"Like they care." I said as I began to cry.

Louey placed his right hand on my shoulder. "Those wolves are powerful, the only reason we are alive is because of your blood my dear, which I must stop drinking."

He said, giving my shoulder a squeeze.

"If I become dependent on your blood it may cause a problem later in your mortal life." He explained.

I said nothing. The rest of the ride to his house was quiet, say for the sound of the tires on the pavement.

When we arrived I got out of the car on my own and walked up to the front door, while Louey  grabbed our belongings. Me being irritated I felt under the porch swing for the key to the door and let myself in.

As I did so I could hear Louey behind me mumble something along the line of "really".

I wanted to laugh but the reality of my situation

weighed heavy on me. I quickly went upstairs to my room that Louey had given me.

It had no bed, just a table and a chair with an old quilt in it. I snatched the quilt from the chair as I kicked my shoes off and dropped to the floor and covered myself completely in the blanket.

I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't pretend that I was fine. Silently I began to cry. I could hear Louey come up the stairs and stand in my doorway. He stood there for a moment then came and lay next to me on the floor.

He then pulled me into his arms and hugged me.  "Let it out honey I'm here." he said softly to me.

I  turned to face him with my head still covered. He gently tugged at the quilt slowly uncovering  my face.

He wiped my tears away with a corner of the quilt. A single tear rested on his glass-like claw.

I looked into his eyes as he stared at the tear.

"I never had….. the chance to mourn my parents." He said somberly. Then he let the tear drop from his nail to the floor.

"What happened to them?" I asked in between sniffles.

"They were murdered when I was just a toddler. They were nobility and had many friends. I can only assume they had just as many enemies." Louey said with a sigh as he rolled onto his back.

I began to dry my eyes. "What kind of business were they into?" I asked.

" Nothing serious. My father was an antique dealer and my mother came from old money. That's all I found about them."

Louey said as he stretched his arms out one either side of him.

" Do you know what their names were?" I asked softly.

" I'll have to show you someday. I have my father's nose and eyes but I look just like my mother. My mother's name was Ilanna, and my father was Louis."  He said sitting up.

He looked at me and smiled. Then gently caressed my cheek and chin. "I found a portrait of me with them many moons ago. Louey then got up and walked to the closet. He gathered up a futon and a pillow and laid them out for me.

After he did so he walked to the door. "Goodnight dear sweet dreams. " he said.

"Louey?" I called him as I got settled in for the night. He looked at me over his shoulder. "Thank you for the distraction."

He gave me the sweetest smile he could muster then left closing the door behind him.

After I shut the door behind myself I could feel that Adel was at ease. She quickly fell back to sleep. As if she didn't get any rest. Poor girl was fighting her emotions. Just as I entered my bedroom my phone began to ring.

"Louey, I have got some good news for you and Adel." He said with glee. "The werewolves have moved on, you're safe for now."

"Great, what's the bad news then, and Don't spare me the details." I said as I let myself drop onto my bed.

"You're getting use to this already!" Talon said smugly. "The wake will be held Monday at a small church with its own private cemetery. Silent Pines. You should be familiar with it. It's not far from Adel's house."

When Talon said that my heart gave a hard thud then dropped to the bottom of my stomach. For the first time I realized just how close I had been to Adel all this time.

"The service will begin at 10:00 in the morning and I have taken the liberty to see that it will be overcast but i'm sending you some vampiric sun block". Talon said. " When will the ceremony be over? " I questioned.

"It will be about three hours long." Talon replied. I let out a quivering sigh.  "Okay but afterwards we got to get far away from there. "

"What's wrong Louey?  Is there something you need to tell me? " Talon questioned.

"I just have some old friends buried there I don't want to bump into. " I answered.

Talon grew quiet for a moment.  "Oh….  Well we will make this quick. " he finally said before hanging up.

For the first time that I can remember,  I prayed. I prayed that this was the worst of my horrible situation.  That things couldn't get any worse. I then looked at my phone to see what day it was. The display read Sunday.

My heart then calmed itself.  I have a day of rest….. Is this what it's like to be a parent? " I asked myself. I then closed my eyes and let sleep take me.

I awoke at dawn, slowly pulling the blanket from my head. The pink, orange light that shone through my bedroom window was bright and filled  my eyes with its light.  I sat up and  basked in it's glow. I slowly stood up, rubbing my eyes.

I stretched as I walked towards the door of my room. I walked out into the pitch black hallway and felt my way to the bathroom. I pushed the door open and began to disrobe. I pulled back the shower curtain when I got a whiff of old spice and steam.  I opened my eyes to see Louey standing under the shower letting the water flow over his head and down his toned body.

I had never seen a man like this before. In his bare splendour. The definition of his muscles. The way his hair curled ever so slightly at the ends when wet.

Just before I could feel the heat rise in my cheeks I realized he was naked he looked at me.  He was shocked.  But the look on his face was not of anger or embarrassment ,but more like he was caught off guard and I snuck up on him.

I ran. My heart, pounding in my chest. It was just too much for my mind. I sat in the kitchen and cried. Louey came down still wet and half dressed.

"I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry! " I sobbed.  Louey swung his hair back and looked at me.  I had never looked into both of his eyes at the same time. They had changed. They were a light grey almost silver with hints of blue. He smiled. "I hope you're awake now.  I'm about to make breakfast. " he said as he buttoned his shirt and tucked it into his black slacks.

"You're not mad at me?" I questioned.

"You were half asleep, it was an honest mistake. " he said as he gathered up ingredients for what looked like french toast.

"Besides, I doubt you saw much." Louey chuckled as he sat the ingredients on the counter. I blushed then jumped down from my perch and headed back upstairs to take my shower and change.

As I let the hot water run over my head, I began  to realize how childish I had behaved. "You're  in love with him yet when you are presented the opportunity  to gaze upon him you shy away. WHY?!?!?!" I screamed at myself.

"It's because  I love him that I looked away. Only the  person he loves should see him." I said to myself softly. I could feel tears welling  up.

"Breakfast  is ready". Louey  said sweetly. "Don't beat yourself up okay." He said before he returned  downstairs  to the kitchen .

I dried myself then ran the enchanted comb through my hair, dressed then returned to the kitchen.

Louey placed a plate with fresh french toast before me with butter and syrup. I took up my fork and knife and dug in. Louey stood across from me drinking a warm cup of blood.

"The big day is tomorrow….. How are you faring?" he asked me.

I put down my fork and then looked up at him.

" I can't believe they're gone. I wait to hear them stirring from their sleep in the morning. to see them running to wash the sleep off their faces." I stabbed the counter with my fork. It twitched for a moment.

"The thing i hate the most is….. I can't shed another tear." Louey put his cup down and came to sit next me. He put his arm around me and hugged me tightly.

"I am sorry I know of no way to ease your pain."

Louey then handed me my fork.

"You must keep your strength up. "

I took it from him and continued to eat.

After I had my fill.  I excused myself from the room.

I sat alone for many hours lost in thought. Louey hadn't come for me.It was already late afternoon I hadn't noticed even though I did watch the sun slowly move the Shadows around me. It was now dusk. He stood behind me in the shadows of the Setting Sun.

" Would you like me to draw you a bath? " Louey asked. I looked at him. His yellow eyes glowing in the shadows.

"How long have you been sitting here? " He asked as he leaned back on the door.

I shrugged. Still looking at the sun set.

"Come here." He commanded.  I stood up and walked to him. He then pulled me into his arms. I immediately began to cry. Louey then picked me up and carried me into the house. He took me upstairs and lay in bed next to me.

"We will put it all to rest in the morning."

He said as he stroked my head. I fell asleep in his arms.

Talon came to us early that morning. He gave Louey the sun block.  He then turned to me.  He knelt down and hugged me.  "I'm so sorry Dellya dear. " he said as he gave me a kiss on the forehead.

"Louey, I'll help her dress while you put on the sun block." He said as he took my hand.  Talon then pulled a dress from his briefcase.

"Has he been taking care of you? " he asked as I took off my PJ's.

"Yes!  Louey is a very kind vampire. " I replied.

"Good. Here put this on. " Talon said.

I stepped into the dress. He then zipped it up.

"Sit here. " he said sternly.

"Louey do her hair while I get her makeup. "

'Make up?  Isn't she a bit young? " he asked

"I'm not going to paint her like a french girl you idiot. Talon said as he reached inside his briefcase again, this time retrieving a red eyeshadow, black eyeliner and a light red chapstick.

Louey combed my hair as Talon put the makeup on me.

"They're sweet and innocent. " Talon said with a smile.

Louey began to turn red in the face. His eyes grew wide as he looked at me.  He turned away. And quickly put on his suit jacket and stood by the door. Talon then took my hand and led me out of the house with Louey in tow.
