                              The girl & the monster

We arrived at the funeral. Louey got out of the car in silence then opened the door for me. I stood next to him and Talon. Who was looking up at the sky.

"Looks like it's going to rain. Come now, best get this underway if we are to beat the weather. Talon beckoned.

We followed him into the church. The building was old. Ancient gargoyles with faded features set atop The many Steeples and archways. Stained glass windows that once shone brilliantly were faded and missing portions.

The smell of mothballs and long burned away incense hung thick in the air.

"This place was once beautiful. " Louey said with a sigh.

I followed Talon to the front where a portrait of my parents sat with a black ribbon draped over it. He ushered me into the very first pew.

"Your parents had a few friends. They will be attending. They will come and pay their respects. " Talon said before he sat down next to me. Louey then sat opposite of me.

" Louey, I have a gift for you. " Talon said as he reached underneath the pew that we were sitting on. He pulled out a strangely shaped case. I looked at Louey. His eyes slowly widened. He reached over me for the case that Talon had handed.

" Seeing how this is a small gathering I did not bring in any form of music. Would you please play your violin for us? " Talon asked. Speechless Louey looked upon him and then back at the case that he was cradling. He then smiled, nodded then set the case in his lap. He slowly ran his glass like claws over the Aged case. Then down to its tarnished clasps.

Louey then opened the case. Within the confines of that old shabby velvet was a crimson red violin. The dim light in the cathedral couldn't dull it's radiance. He then picked up the bow which was a rich ebony. Louey picked up the instrument and plucked at its string, turning the knobs until he found the right pitch for each chord.

Watching him paw at the instrument was as if he was reunited with a long-lost love. He then began to play. The sweet sound filled the room.

Louey closed his eyes as he played.

As I watched him I noticed a few people enter the cathedral.  An older man with shoulder length white hair in a suite walked in. With a young blond behind him. She was slender, her frame hugged tightly by her form fitting black dress.  Her hair swept the floor in her wake.

And behind her trailed three more people. A tall man with spiky fire red hair, and several scars on his face. A lady with spiked hair and another man with long jet black hair. His eyes seemed to glow in the low light.

Louey stopped playing. Talon stood up and greeted them. "Thank you for coming Abraham, I see you brought along the team."

"Ah, it has been years since I've seen you, Talon. And yes I brought my team. We were all friends to the late Benjamin and Lauren Black. They will be missed dearly. "  Abraham said.

"Yes they will be. "Abraham! I shouted as I ran up to him and gave him a hug.

"My you have grown, And into such a lovely young lady at that" He said patting my head. I am so sorry for your loss my dear, come I have someone you should meet. This is my daughter Lucy, and our teammates, Jason Morris, Derrick Steward, and Avalon Renfield".

they all gazed at me in awe. The woman named Avalon slowly approached me. Her crazy dirty blond hair with just her bangs pinned back into a bump on her head with what looked like a claw was out of place for this occasion caught my eye as she drew closer.

" You have gotten so big my dear!" she said, kneeling down before me. She took my hand and looked into my eyes. "Your mother had me watch you while she was on a hunt when you were just barely out the womb then".

Avalon said then stepped towards the portrait of my parents. She pulled a small flower from her pocket and placed it before it. Talon stepped off to speak with Abraham and Louey began to play again.  The woman named Lucy sat next to me.

'Don't fall in love with him. " she said.

I looked up at her perplexed.

"He is beautiful, but just as deadly. But then again you are more than you seem. " Again I looked at her confused.

"Noone ever told you? " Lucy asked in awe. Just then the man Jason approached.

" Your father said not to say anything. " he said as he sat between us.

He was handsome and devilishly so. His black hair was so shiny and his eyes felt as if they could pierce the soul.

"Pay Lucy no mind. He said as he fanned her to leave.  Lucy turned up her nose and returned to her father's side.

"She is right about one thing. Be mindful of that one. " he said, nodding towards Louey.

"He has done many horrible things that you couldn't even begin to fathom. We hunted him, and his companions for many years and haven't managed to kill one of them. We only just recently let him be because of your parents. "

"What are you? " I asked him. He smiled then looked at me and chucked.

"I'm merely a weapon. " he replied then sauntered off.

What's going on?  I shouldn't be surprised that none of them are human. After  that night in the woods…..  Seeing those werewolves..

I began to panic.

This is all too real!.

Just then the man with the scars put his hand on my shoulder and squeezed it gently.

" Calm yourself. You're not going crazy ".

This life is well hidden. Just like the truth about monsters.

It's as if he read my mind.

"Am I human"? I asked him.

"More than likely….  No. He said coldly.

My heart stopped. I felt the air go still. Louey had put down his violin and was moving towards me.

I fainted.

I ran to Adel's side just as she began to slip from the pue.  I could feel the panic that had filled her.

I grab her and lay her in my lap on the floor.

"Adel! " I yelled out to her.

Talon and Abraham came over quickly.

"Everyone else stayed back. Lucy get the holy water. " Abraham ordered.

"What for?! " I yelled. Then I looked down at her to see that a strange red aura surrounded her.

Abraham  quickly took the water from Lucy and prayed over it.  He then stuck his hand in it and drew a cross on her.

It began to glow white.

"How old is she? He asked.

"Fourteen, " Avalon replied.

"This is too soon. " Abraham said. "WHAT DID YOU TELL HER". Abraham shouted at Derick.

"All I told her was that she isn't human..... Heck you're not human! This man versus monsters battle has us switching roles.  Come on, do you think that a vampire is capable of raising a little girl?!?! " he shouted.

"Especially that vampire?!?!??!  You know! The one who like to rape and kill indiscriminately I mean it didn't matter who you are how old you are that guy is an animal...… Oh wait a minute, is this another one of your experiments, doctor?"

I looked sternly at Abraham and so did Talon.

He paused for a moment then stood up.

"I I I thought she was a failure. So I was trying to give her a normal life. " He stuttered out.

Before I could even get angry Talon had slammed him to the floor.

"What do you mean failure?!?! " He snarled.

Lucy pulled a knife from her thigh ready to intervene.

Let him up Talon….  He's got a story to tell.. I said hardly containing my anger.

Talon then slowly let go of Abraham. Abraham hesitantly stood up and straightened his suit jacket.

" Our organization takes the strongest amongst us and pairs them with the most formidable monsters to create offspring which intern, become New Age Hunters. "

Abraham stated as he began to pace.

"It all began with Mina Harker; she was the first when she had an affair with Dracula himself; it resulted in a child. She was ashamed of what she had done though she did not want to kill it so my great great great grandfather took the child and raised him. At the time he had a daughter that was a hunter.

Just as the child and his daughter grew up together and fell in love he was not happy about this development until he saw the power in that child.

That's when he decided the best way to destroy a monster was to breed new stronger monsters. Adel is the product of this. "

Abraham lamented.

" That's why you Talon  were initially paired with her. But there are a few that turn out to be more human than monsters. We thought she was one of them meaning she would not be fit for breeding. Recessive genes are not desirable. "

Abraham then took Adel from me and laid her on a pew.

"Her powers did not mature as they should have.

She shouldn't have gone through a surge of supernatural energy at this time and age. That was meant to happen on her 16th birthday. We don't know if she'll be of any use to us. "

I stood up and punched him in the face.  His team-mates scramble to his side.

"She's just a weapon?! " A pawn?!  I shouted.

"They're well treated, just look at Talon."

He wants for nothing!  He had the best education at a young age not only is he a lawyer he is also an accountant he controls almost every dime the undead touches. "

Abraham explained as he cleaned the blood from his lip.

"What are your plans for her right now? She's meaningless to you after all. "

"That's why she's with you. You're a vampire that we could not capture nor kill Benjamin and Lauren had promised you protection as long as you do right by that girl we nor any other team of hunters will intervene with you, A blind eye if you will?"

Avalona walked over handing Abraham some clean ex. He took it from her and wiped his lip.

"Jason, please bring me some of the holy water. "

The man with black hair walked quickly up to the pool pit behind the portrait of Adel's parents.

"What is that for? "

"It's to suppress any dark power that may be emerging from within her. The ommonus glow that is ammitting from her slowly began to dissipate.

Talon's face was emotionless as he sat down on the pew with Adel, lifting her head and resting it in his lap.

"Is there anything that we should know if this were to happen again?" Talon asked as he gently stroked Adels cheek.

"Well seeing how her father had vampirism she may need to consume blood, but there is a catch." Abraham said as he tugged on his beard.

All eyes were on him now. "Well what blood will she need?" Talon's cold voice cut through the eerie silence.

Abraham let out a deep sigh as he stuck both hands in his pockets. He rocked on his heels twice before hesitantly speaking.

" she may have to feed from vampires. She was created to be a weapon after all. And it would only make sense if she were to feed off of the very creature she was born to destroy. Talon and Louey made eye contact. Holding each other's gaze as if to have held a secret conversation.

" Do you have any clue what will happen if she drinks human blood?"

Louey asked after breaking eye contact with Talon.

Abraham nervously begins to scratch his head and shrug his shoulders.

" Honestly we haven't a clue. She's no longer under our supervision. And to be frank she's no longer a concern to the organization….. unless some sort of new development occurs."

"What will happen if the organization catches wind of new developments with Adel?" Louey asked sternly.

"I rather not think of that." Abraham said, shaking his head. "If I were you I would do my best to make sure no one hears a word about her whereabouts. If she continues to change, to grow stronger, the organization won't be the only one you will have to worry about. My research has been dead for years. We've had to Resort back to Old methods of hunting monsters. Human deaths are on the rise and Hunters are few and far between."

Abraham slowly began to walk towards the door, his team following suit. "Again I will turn a blind eye for you. But if the organization or even worse here's about today's events , it is out of my hands. Good luck to both of you." And with that Abraham shut the door behind him.
