1 The Tale of Demons

Long ago, the Creator made a group of beings to praise and serve him/her for eternity.

These beings were then called Angels. The Angels praised the Creator and did his/her bidding. They became the Creator's messenger to the world that he/she created- the Gaia.

The Gaia is a world where life exists. In it, different races of beings live. Humans, Elves, Beasts, Dwarves, Fairy, Gnomes, Treants, and many more.

The Creator possessed the power above all and everything. No one can compare to the Creator.

Among all Angels, one stood out. An Angel that possesses great piety and beauty- Satan. The Creator trusted him the most and bestowed to him the authority among all other Angels.

However, adoration turned into envy.

Satan, who was always close to the Creator became malignant. He was not content with being above all Angels. He wanted to be more than what the Creator is. The praise of the Angels and the inhabitants of Gaia, he wanted it all and for himself alone. He sought power greater than what the Creator has.

Satan tainted a faction of the Angels. He planted a seed of doubt and greed into them. Not long after, the seed grew.

The Angels were divided. Half of which stayed clean and devoted to the Creator. The other half faltered and believed Satan, that they themselves deserve to hold power like the Creator.

The tension grew and Satan brew a war to overthrow the Creator. The tainted angels joined him and the war happened - The War of Angels.

Satan might have been cunning but he was not a match to the Creator. No matter how many they were, they couldn't match the Creator.

The Creator became furious and bestowed a punishment to Satan and all the angels that joined him. Their betrayal will forever be remembered by the Creator and by themselves.

Darkness spread on Satan's white glowing wings and two horns grew on his head. All the angels that followed him faced the same fate. Their light faded and the purity was replaced with malice.

They were no longer Angels, they became different.

The Creator vanished them from Heaven, never to return again.

Satan and the tainted Angels had nowhere to go. Like dry leaves falling from a tree, they fell to Gaia.

They lost what they once had as Angels.

Since then, they were called the Demons.

Demons became the symbol of betrayal, deceit, greed, envy, and everything evil.

=======================================================

The tale ends here.

Thousands of years have passed and this tale still exists in books like this one and through word-of-mouth.

The Demons scattered in Gaia and lived their lives. The Demons became its own individual race. Some of them blended in with the different races and created their own offspring.

The Demon race has diversified over time.

The view of the inhabitants of Gaia onto Demons remain terrible at large. They tend to blame the unfortunate things that happen in their lives to Demons. Bad harvest, sickness, drought, epidemic, plague, war, and so on. Even things like theft, murder, and other crimes are being accused to the Demons.

That's why we, descendants of the original Demons, must stay low and avoid unnecessary interactions with other beings.

I have been doing just that.

As a descendant of the original Demons, I do not possess the abilities that the original Demons had. The Demon blood has been passed down for thousands of years and it is uncommon now to see a Demon with great power or remarkable abilities. We are just like any other race here in Gaia.

Moreover, the powerful Demons before have been eradicated by the other races due to fear or false accusations.

It was only a few millenniums ago when a treaty between Demons and all the other race was created. The Demons were then considered an inhabitant of Gaia.

I cannot say that I completely believe the tale. If it is indeed true, I cannot change what my ancestors did to the Creator. I can only live and mind my own business.

If you ask me, I would say that Satan was rather a fool. It was stupid of him to defy the Creator. If you think about it, it should be common sense that the one who created you is probably stronger or more powerful than you. He already knew that but he still sought to be above the Creator. He even pulled a lot of Angels with him down to Gaia.

He wasted the beauty that he had and the authority bestowed upon him. He could have been the most beautiful Angel known to all. He could have been the most powerful Angel or the most respected Angel. He threw all of that away. What a waste.

And all those angels that believed him are utter fools too. I can't imagine how the Angels think during those times so I can't help but wonder how they thought they could overthrow the Creator. Is it the same as the kingdoms in Gaia wherein the kings' subjects would betray him and seek the crown for themselves? I don't know.

Now we, their descendants, have to suffer from their sin. Now that I think about it, I shouldn't be thinking like this. I am one of THEIR descendants. In my blood runs the Demon blood and perhaps their foolishness too.

Did the tainted Angels blame Satan for the doom that they met? Did they argue with him or begged The Creator for forgiveness? Did they plan anything to redeem themselves? Or do they know the Creator very well and accepted that what they did is unforgivable thus their punishment is irreversible?

Well, we wouldn't know.

I should drop this book now or there might not be an end to these thoughts.

Working as a librarian here in the Library of Valkar has allowed me to live in peace and maintain a distance between myself and all the other race. This town is not that big and it is located in the far west of Gaia, surrounded by bodies of water.

It would be problematic to live in a place where there are a lot of other beings. It could be dangerous.
