Hayleigh stared at her folder long and hard as she stood in front of the door to Rowen’s office.

This was it. All the hard work, stress, and all those sleepless nights were now in one file in her hand, ready to be signed off for her defense in two weeks. All that was needed left was Rowen’s signature.

Such a simple thing had never felt any more difficult.

She wouldn’t be having this predicament if not for last night. All the anger she’d felt hours ago had curdled down, and now the mere idea of having to face him again so soon left her mortified. How stupid of her to think she could take him on right then and there, not when he’d been playing the game for so long. It was infuriating how he knew all her weaknesses so easily, and she was pathetic for letting it affect her so much.

She would find a way to get back at him later. Unfortunately, her degree had to come first before her pride.
