Thirty Three

Hayleigh’s mind went blank.

Her vision tunneled down to the gun pointed at Rowen’s temple. There was a steadfast calmness in Rowen’s eyes she tried to draw strength from, but it did nothing to abate the wild hammering in her chest.

“I didn’t get the memo for the dress code tonight, Keiran. I would’ve worn something nice too,” Sadie commented as she cocked her head to one side of the room. “Get the rope in the duffel bag.”

Hayleigh had almost forgotten Keiran was with her until he walked past her. Her disbelief at the entire situation slowly went from horror to anger as Keiran took out a bundle of fiber rope and headed towards Rowen.

When she finally found her voice again, it was faint and breaking. “What the hell’s going on here?”

Her question was directed at Keiran, who avoided her gaze. She took a step forward as Keiran began tying Rowen’s hands behind his back.

Sadie pointed the gun at Hayleigh. “One more step and I’ll put a hole right between your eyes.”
