15 Ye Ziyun

He had a meeting with Nie Zexi at the library, so he headed towards school.

He wasn't late, yet he found Nie Zexi waiting for him at the library entrance.

"How are you sister Zexi. I haven't made you wait too long I hope." Said Nie Li.

"No, I have just got here. So what are we doing today?" Nie Zexi wanted to ask about the Charger Cube but decided it would be too impolite.

"Have you trained with the Inscription Pattern I gave you?" Seeing her nod he continued, "Today would be our first lesson. We will talk about the basics of Inscription. You will have to learn that first before getting the hang of modifying and creating the patterns" That got her excited. Because barely anyone could modify the Inscription scrolls in Glory city. And there was none that could create a new one. Most masters just copied existing Inscription patterns.

"Let's go to the Inscriptions Patterns section, there we can find all the needed books," said Nie Li and lead the way. It was on the third floor of the library. After going up to the third floor they went towards the corner with common Inscription patterns books.

It wasn't empty. Seeing the only occupant of the corner Nie Li's eyes lit up. There in all her glory his classmate and potential wife Ye Ziyun was looking through a book cutely scrunching her brows. He wanted to approach her earlier, but he had been too busy in the last few days. Today he is going to kill two birds with one stone.

"Classmate Ye Ziyun," he walked up to her, Nie Zexi following him, "I see you're interested in Inscription Patterns as well". Of course, he knew about her interest in Inscription scrolls from his previous life memories and the novel. He also knew the reason why she was so interested in Inscription Patterns. Her mother before her death was one of the most promising Inscription masters in the Glory City. That was one of the many things that Shen Hong had to answer for. After the death of her mother, her father buried himself in his job and didn't have time for her.

That's why he showed Sheng Xiu up in her ill-fated lesson that day. To attract her attention as an Inscription Pattern expert.

Ye Ziyun was startled, "Ah, classmate Nie Li. How's your day?" She looked at her classmate and the black-haired girl beside him. She didn't recognize her. She must be from another class.

"Book of Sacred Fire? A good book about flame-type Inscription patterns. But the author is rather rigid in his views. He states that all of the Inscription Patterns were opened in the Ancient eras. And there was nothing left to invent. And once we find all the patterns, there would not be a need for experimentation to create new patterns. In actuality, there is an unlimited amount of patterns we could create with a limited number of foundation patterns we are aware of." Ye Ziyun was amazed. She knew that her classmate was good with the Inscription patterns with the way he easily found a mistake with teacher Shen Xiu's lesson. But grasping the gist of the book she was reading so effortlessly and commenting on its limitations were on a completely another level.

How is he so knowledgeable? She has been studying inscription patterns since childhood and still was so far behind her year-mate.

"Oh, by the way, this is my cousin Nie Zexi, Sister Zexi, this is my classmate Ye Ziyun, one of the best students in our year," he introduced them. They said their hello's to each other.

"Classmate Ziyun, sister Zexi is a part of Inscriptions class. We are planning to talk about the basics of foundation patterns. Would you like to join us?" he asked again not giving them much of a choice. Ye Ziyun hesitated. She was ever polite, never liked to intrude on anything. Nie Zexi on the other hand looked confused. She didn't understand why Nie Li would invite this girl to their lesson. She glanced at him, then at Ziyun thoughtfully. Suddenly her eyes lit up as she understood something. She looked at him and smirked.

"Ah sister Ziyun, join us. This monster's knowledge of Inscription patterns is too vast. I feel too inferior when talking to him about inscription patterns. Having someone closer to my level would be great," she said looking at Ye Ziyun.

Nie Li didn't want to think about how quickly she could figure out his motives towards Ye Ziyun. He didn't think that he was so transparent. He hoped she wouldn't do something drastic.

After Ye Ziyun agreed, Nie Zexi took her elbow in her hand and led her towards one of the tables, all the while chattering about something. He didn't know this side of her character. He thought she was one of the silent types. Well, this shows how wrong he was in his assumptions. He hoped he didn't make a mistake introducing them to each other. Then Nie Zexi suddenly stopped their conversation and turned towards him, "Are you coming?"

"I will, in a moment. I just need some books from here." Nie Li answered.

"Okay, don't wander too long," she said and they sat down.

Nie Li quickly found the books he needed and headed towards their table.

The girls were talking and laughing about something. When they saw him coming Ye Ziyun looked at him and chuckled and then turning red lowered her head. All the while not stopping her giggles.

Nie Li's face turned dark. What the hell did Nie Zexi tell her about him? He should have never introduced them to each other. Now it was already late. They already looked thick as thieves. He looked at his cousin's smirking face and decided he didn't want to know.

"Let's begin our discussion," he said abruptly and dropped the books on the table. When he began talking about inscription patterns girls quickly became serious. He talked about the foundation patterns or the alphabet of the Inscriptions. He showed them how they work, how to combine them into new patterns.

Of course, he hadn't told them about all of the foundation patterns he knew, because there were too many. He only talked about the most common basic ones and their usages. Even that was a big amount of information and they hadn't noticed how almost two hours passed without them noticing. Both girls were very intelligent and quick on the uptake, so Nie Li enjoyed himself teaching them.

When the school bell rang indicating the end of the school day all three of them blinked as if they hadn't noticed the time passing.

"I think this is enough for today," said Nie Li stretching his stiff back. "We can gather again in a few days if you would like to join." He said to Ye Ziyun.

"Yes. I'd like to," she answered. It was the best lesson she had on inscription patterns. That was very impressive considering she had been taught by the best teachers in Glory City. She had learned so much today. And who was the teacher? Her classmate, whose knowledge surpassed hers to such a great degree. In Ye Ziyun's eyes, Nie Li's person was too unfathomable. She was deeply impressed.

On the other hand, Nie Li was reminded of Ye Ziyun of his previous life. She too was passionate about learning new things. After the destruction of Glory City, the only things that cheered her up were protecting the survivors and finding new places to explore. And when she died she asked him to protect the survivors and continue to explore the world. He failed to carry out her first wish. By the time he left for Draconic Ruins Realm, he was completely alone. Many people died on the road, some people stayed in the human settlements they encountered. But her second wish, that kept him alive. He continued to explore the world and not only this world.

Nie Li swore in his mind that they will explore the universe together this time. He won't let this Ye Ziyun die.
