Jack POV:
One moment I was on the street going home and the next I was surrounded by darkness. This would've been a major problem if not for the fact that there was no one at home waiting for me. Don't get me wrong it's not like I was orphaned or anything like that it's just simply my whole family died one after the other. I was just lucky that my dad didn't go till I was already able to live on my own. I would say we were close but everyone was in and out of the hospital, so I was never able to spend any meaningful amount of time with anyone.
After what felt like several days, I saw what looked like a tunnel of light in the darkness. I would've walked towards it but I didn't have any legs or even arms for that matter. All I could do was watch as the light got ever so slowly closer. Inching closer and closer. Once I was right there at it I could hear the heavy breathing of a woman followed by someone saying "One more time."
As I passed through into the blinding light. I came into a bright room that made me close my eyes as tightly as possible. After a few seconds of sounds of people trying to comfort the woman and the feeling of being touched, something I welcomed openly since I hadn't felt anything in what felt like days.
Finally, I slowly started to blink as much as possible to get used to the light. The room started to come into focus. We were in a large room that had a bed on the smaller side to only fit one person, a couple of desks pushed up against one side of the room, and a window to allow the natural light to come in. The room's design can only be described as eccentric. Most of the room had a natural feel to it other than the fact that most of the walls had what looked like gold lining to them.
There were only four people in the room, one that looked to be a doctor of some kind, and three others that all looked related, but seemed familiar to me. The man was the one holding me...wait holding me. I tried to look around, but all I could manage was moving my eyes and that's when I realized why I couldn't move. I was a baby, again. Did I get reincarnated? Am I going to be the main character and become a hero? Will I get a loving family and hopefully find a cute girl and one day start my own? All these questions and more raced through my mind.
"I think he seems okay. Usually, when they are born they tend to cry, but since his eyes seem to be looking around, I believe he's fine." The person looked like a doctor said.
"Thank you, You may take your leave now." The doctor bowed and then left the room, "Seems like you may be easier to raise than your older sister." He said. I looked up at him and finally took in the man and his features. He seemed to be on the older side but didn't look it. He had a muscular build but still seemed skinny. His hair looked like silver and was cut in a military fashion. His eyes seemed to be made of emerald.
"Oh honey, she's right here you know. Can I please see my baby now?" The woman lying in bed said. When I glanced over at her still not able to control my head so it more or less seemed like I was throwing my head in her direction. She had the same silver hair that looked like it reached almost down her back, but she had blue eyes instead of emerald. They looked like they were shimmering in the natural lighting though so they looked more beautiful than the emeralds. That probably has more to do with the fact that it's the eyes of a woman and not a man though.
"Yes, yes." He made his way over to the left side of the bed carefully handing me over to her. She started chooing at me as if I would laugh. It wasn't until she started tickling me that I started giggling like a baby would. Damn, I guess I don't have control over that quite yet. After roughly ten minutes of this onslaught of tickles, the girl sitting beside her finally spoke up.
"Mom, is it okay if I hold him?" She asked.
"Yes, you can. Just make sure to support his head. Babies have weak necks, so they can't hold their heads up by themselves." She slowly and methodically handed me over, making sure my head was supported.
As soon as I laid my eyes on her my heart stopped. I was finally able to put it together. The reason they seemed familiar, was the pointy ears they all had, the more natural the place felt, and even the slight feeling of authority the man had on the doctor. It was all coming together and if my thoughts are right I'm not the main character and even worse, I was never meant to be born. My thoughts stalled as the girl spoke to me.
"Hello Casma, I'm your older sister, Tessia." She had a smile that was filled with love. The same face she made in the webtoon and even the same way it was described in the novels. My heart dropped at this point. This was, in fact, the world that I had read many, many, many times. It was a world I wished for that held family, something I never really had, in the highest regard. The one who was always aiming to make sure that his loved ones were safe was...
A knock came at the door once again something interrupted my thoughts, "Are we okay to come in?" The voice of an older man said from the other side.
Who I was now confident in saying was Alduin and Mariel, looked at each other and Mariel nodded, "Yes, you can come in Father." That being said, two individuals walked in. One was the man who would one day lead this continent in the war to come, Elder Virion.
The other is a boy the same age as Tessia. There was absolutely no way I would be able to mistake him. His auburn hair, the azure blue eyes, the way he held himself, but most importantly the fact that I could now see why he would become a lady killer later on in life. He was the Arthur Leywin I knew from, The Beginning After The End.
He rounded the bed and stood next to Tessia. He gazed down at me, but had a gentle and caring look in his eyes, "Already thinking about what your kids will look like when you two get married and have your own?" Virion said, teasing them in his usual manner. Tessia turned beet red, while Arthur on the other hand held his stoic face not letting it get to him.
"No, I was just thinking that my sister was also born a week ago. I-I was just thinking that I'll miss getting to see her first few years of life." His face faltered for a second before it went back to before. Everyone in the room was silent as they knew that there wasn't anything they could say to help. It was Mariel though who broke the silence moving to Tessia and taking me in her hands. She held me for a second before kissing my forehead.
"Arthur, I know it doesn't replace holding your sister, but I believe you've been here long enough to at least be considered family." She paused and waited a moment before finishing, "Would you like to hold Casma?" She looked at him and gave him a motherly smile, one that only can come from someone who's had kids of their own. He didn't say a word, only nodded. Slowly I was placed in his hands. He held me like I was glass, afraid that he would break me, well honestly he could.
I saw a tear form in his eye as it slowly rolled down his cheek and plopped on my cheek, "Ga." It was the most I could do to try any sort of comfort. I can't control anything I do, my body simply just being born wouldn't be able to do much.
"It seems he likes you." Mariel said smiling, "That's the first noise he made since being born." Arthur looked at her and then back at me, "It seems he can sense your sadness. Babies have a way of feeling things like that." She added.
"Well, I'll be around for quite a while, so I hope he would," Arthur said chuckling a little before handing me back to Merial. Next thing I knew I was yawning the biggest yawn I've had in both lives.
"It looks like he's tired why don't you all get ready to eat and I'll put him down to sleep." No one argued as they all slowly left the room. Once everyone was gone Mariel got up and walked over to the crib that I hadn't noticed. It was made mostly out of what looked like plants and had a mattress in the middle. I was laid down on it and felt her hand rubbing my back.
"Unfortunately for you the way elves rule is the same as the humans. The first male heir is the one to take the throne. I never thought I would have another kid, so I never anticipated this, but I couldn't be happier. I just hope when you grow up, you'll be a kind and caring king." She continued to rub my back and I could feel my eyelids become lead and starting to close on their own.
This has been a very exhausting day. All these new revelations that have happened and learning where I am. It was too much for me to process all at once, but since I'm still young I'll have enough time to plan for what's to come. Even though I know that the war will happen the plans for that will have to wait till I can protect myself. Even if I tried to get strong for my family, I know Arthur would do everything in his power to protect them, so my priority will be to try and catch up to Arthur so that the weight of the war isn't falling only on his shoulders.
With this, I have a decent plan for the next couple of years. A family I will have to get used to as well as everything that comes with being royalty. Even making sure that Arthur doesn't screw something up like the original story. Mainly making sure that he and Tessia become an item before he leaves. This will be the start of the main plan until Arthur leaves.
I guess, I can say that this will give me a new start in life.
