1 Chapter 1

Elizabeth Swan Doyle was a seventeen-year-old girl. She had brown, chestnut eyes, and pink-y red lips. She had dark, ebony hair that was cut just over her shoulders, short enough so she couldn't tie it up in a ponytail but long enough for it to blow in the wind as she moved through the alleyways of Galway. She wore black skinny jeans that would fit nicely around her slim waist, black t-shirts that would go down to the top of her thighs, a tight-fitting black leather jacket, and her pair of black Dock Martens with a silver cross necklace that she wore around her neck. She and her mom lived in an apartment on a small street in Galway city, Ireland. Everyone on the street knew them and her first boyfriend 'Tom', who she had recently broken up with, lived with his family in the house across the road. Even though her first name was "Elizabeth", everyone, including her family and friends, called her "Swan". Swan encountered her first vampire when she was walking to a disco one night. Although most girls her age would have run the other way, only to be followed and killed, Swan took a different approach. The first thing she said to the vampire was, "Hey, is that like, some sort of plastic surgery?" because she didn't quite see his full face or the blood that was dripping from his mouth. The vampire, shocked that she hadn't run away, morphed back into his human face. "Cool! How'd you do that?" Swan asked, stepping closer. The vampire just shrugged. "I'm Swan," she said. "Connor" the vampire replied. He knew he was going to kill this girl, but he thought he'd play along for a while. He followed her to the disco, and they danced together for a while before she got bored and said she was going home. Connor offered to walk Swan home and she allowed him to. They walked through the more-less empty street, occasionally talking about something they both had an interest in. Connor was still planning on killing this young girl but didn't mind the company. They were nearing Swan's small apartment at the end of the street, when Connor pretended to see something in a dark alley way, and lead Swan towards it. "I don't see anything" Swan said. "Oh, I must have been mistaken" Conner replied, his back to hers. When he turned around, he had vamped out and grabbed her. "Hey! What are you-" Swan started but was cut off by Connor pressing his finger on her lips. "Don't worry, I'll make it quick" he said, moving his mouth to her neck. Swan, trying to think fast, grabbed her knife she had in the back pocket of her jeans and stabbed him in the chest. Since he was a vampire, it didn't kill him, but man did it hurt. "Wow, Chivalry really is dead" Swan said as she kicked him in the stomach, knocking him down. "Bitch!" Connor hissed. "What can I say? I don't like being killed on the first date" Swan laughed. Noticing he was going to get up soon enough, she bolted home and locked the door behind her.

She didn't tell her mother about her little 'adventure'. She would probably think Swan was crazy to believe in what she thought was a vampire. So, for the next few months, she would look online and, in the library, to see if there was anything she could find out about vampires. She also started kick boxing and would train in the gym every day after school because she hated the feeling of being helpless against Connor when he tried to kill her in the ally way. Once she was strong enough and well informed about vampires and demons, she started to go out at night again, and now that she knew everything about them, and was strong enough, she could notice them easily and would either, avoid them or fight them off when she had to. Another thing she learned was they weren't all bad. Some demons were good. She found a demon pub in one of the alleyways in the city and found a group of demons that she got along fine with. As she talked to her new 'demon buddies' she heard stories about a vampire from the 1700s. A vampire that was so sadistic and brutal, he was dubbed 'the Scourge of Europe', and his name was Angelus. Now, that's not exactly what Swan found interesting about the stories. What she found interesting was apparently, once he moved to America, he didn't kill anymore. Some even say his soul was returned. Now this was interesting. A vampire with a soul. Who knew? In the club there were other vampires that she got along with. Now, they didn't have a soul or anything. but they did know Swan was strong enough to dust them if they tried anything funny, so they came to a mutual agreement, and so they became 'friends' you could say.
