1 Prologue

A teenage young man with ruffled brownish red hair, who seemed to be around seventeen years old, slowly opened his eyes, feeling fatigued.

He had a somewhat muscular, yet athletic body with an average height for his age. The young man had a flame-like patterned mark on the top left of his forehead, which was quite eye-catching.

"Where am I?!"

The young man looked around with his dark red eyes while having a startled expression.

He found himself in the middle of a vast green land, despite the fact that he was having a death battle just a few moments ago, as far as he can remember.

"What's going on? Is this some sort of blood demon art like the one at Mugen train?! I've got to wake up somehow!"

The young man appeared quite tensed, yet he was unsure of what action to take next. After all, what he was experiencing was quite different from his past experience. If he makes the wrong move, he will die. But regardless, he needed to do something. His friends and sister are waiting for him.

Suddenly, a very handsome man with long silver hair, wearing blue robes, appeared in front of the young man.

"Hello. Hope I didn't keep you waiting." The silver haired man said with a smile on his face.

"!!"

The young man was started by the sudden appearance of the silver haired man. He immediately jumped back to create distance between them.

'Where did he come from? I couldn't sense him at all. And… I can't pick up his smell. It's as if he doesn't exist at all! Is this some kind of illusion type blood demon art?!'

The young man thought while trying to calm his disturbed mind.

"Kamado Tanjiro, don't be so anxious. What you are feeling now, and this place, and myself… all are real." The silver haired man said with a slight smile.

"What?"

"I see that you're still quite tensed. You don't have to be so wary. I mean, you're already dead. Why don't you try to clearly remember your last moments?" The silver haired man said calmly.

"I'm… dead?" The young man named Kamado Tanjiro muttered in shock. At the same time, he tried to remember what happened before he arrived at this unknown place, which could be considered afterlife, since he is dead.

"I remember now. I died along with Kibutsuji Muzan, when he tried to take over my body." Kamado Tanjiro said in a quiet tone.

"Don't look so down. You sister and your two friends are alive, and the demon progenitor is, without a doubt, dead."

Hearing the silver haired man's words, Kamado Tanjiro showed a happy yet solemn smile.

While he is happy that his sister, Zenitsu and Inosuke survived, he is also a bit sad that he couldn't be there with them.

"Well, enough about the past. Let's talk about your future. I have a proposition for you, Kamado Tanjiro." The silver haired man said.

"Future? Proposition? Anyway, who are you, mister? Where exactly am I?" Kamado Tanjiro asked.

"Hmm… I am called Alficius, A 'True Creator'. As for this place, you can think of it as heaven if you want, though it's just a plane I created for the purpose of meeting possible chosen ones." The silver haired man called Alficius calmly explained.

"Um… Alficius-san, what do you want from me? I don't get the feeling that I'm just passing on to afterlife here." Kamado Tanjiro asked.

"That's right. I'm not sending you to the cycle of reincarnation in your world. You soul managed to arrive at this place, so I've decided to make you one of my chosen ones." Alficius said, then he looked directly at Kamado Tanjiro and asked,

" So, How about you become one of my chosen ones, Kamado Tanjiro? You'll be given a new life, although you'll have to do some things for me. Of course, I won't ask you to do something unreasonable."

"…Do I have to keep fighting again?" Kamado Tanjiro said feeling unsure of Alficius's offer. He was tired of all the fighting and tragedy.

"If you become my chosen one, I can give you the opportunity to correct your past regrets. For example, preventing the death of your loved ones, comrades and such, or killing the demons before they cause any tragedies. Of course, you need to fulfill certain conditions so I can give you the opportunity." Alficius said.

"!!" Kamado Tanjiro was startled by the words of Alficius, but at the same time, confused.

"Why… do you want me to be your chosen one? I'm sure there are people better than me and more competent than me that you can find."

"You managed to reach this place out of the countless powerful souls out there. And also, you too are a possessor of the 'World Fate Fragment'. Other than that, It's also because I know that you'll get the job done in a manner that won't disappoint me. I've seen the life you've led so far, so I'm sure of it." Alficius said with a smile.

Kamado Tanjiro was silent for a moment. He was tempted by the offer Alficius gave him, especially after knowing that he has a chance to change the past. He simply had too many regrets.

Finally, Tanjiro slowly inquired, " So, Alficius-san, what am I supposed to do?"

"Hmm… It's not too much actually. You just need to grow stronger and protect an individual from a certain group. And some small missions that I'll give you after you start your new life." Alficius said.

"So, am I being reborn in the past? Do I keep my memories as well?"

"No. Rather than past, you'll be reborn in a completely different world. But don't worry. I'll keep my word to give you the chance to go back to your original world once, and of course, you'll return to your new life after you've changed what you want to."

"… I see."

"What is your answer?" Alficius asked.

"Will I still be a human?" Kamado Tanjiro asked in soft tone.

"That depends on what you believe yourself to be." Alficius casually answered.

"I know I'm being kind of suspicious, since I appeared out of nowhere and gave you an unbelievable offer. But you don't really need to hesitate so much. I don't really have any bad intention towards you. I just need you to help me with certain problems, since my power and position doesn't allow me to solve the problems." Alficius said with a wry smile, when he saw Kamado Tanjiro hesitate so much.

"… Alright. I accept to being your chosen one, Alficius-san. I'll do my best to help you with the problems you are facing. In return, I hope you keep your promise to me." Kamado Tanjiro said solemnly.

"Fulfilling the promise to you is but easy for me. So, no need to worry. Now then, let's start the preparation for your rebirth."

Alficius said, then he put his hand in front of Tanjiro, and proclaimed,

" Kamado Tanjiro, I hereby accept you as my chosen one!"

As soon as he said that, a massive roulette appeared in front of him and Kamado Tanjiro.

"!!"

Kamado Tanjiro was startled by sudden appearance of this large object he had never seen before.

"Don't be so startled. It's something that gives you a system that allows you to grow stronger at a speed way above the norm. It's something that is granted to all my chosen ones. Although, what type of system you get is something that even I can't foresee."

"Um… Alficius-san, what is this 'system' you're refering to? And what do you mean by a type?" Kamado Tanjiro was confused.

As for type… let's see… there are many kinds of systems stored in this roulette. Different type of system help you grow in different manner. It's somewhat similar to the breathing styles you're familiar with. There are some breathing styles that focuses on speed, some one pure strength, some purely on offensive or defensive traits." Alficius explained.

"I see."

Seeing the response of Kamado Tanjiro, Alficius walked to the massive roulette and with a slight movement of his arm, the roulette started spinning at incredible speed.

Kamado Tanjiro was startled, at the same time, a voice different from Alficius was heard in his mind as a blue display screen with some words appeared in front of him.

"Alficius-san! Something just spoke in my mind! I couldn't distinguish the gender, but, does this have something to do with you?" Kamado Tanjiro asked in a panicked voice.

"Look here boy, don't get panicked for each and every thing. Those are the gifts you get before you get reborn. I'll remind you just in case. The world you're being reborn is an incredibly dangerous one, if you look at the supernatural side of it. The danger of your previous world is but child's play compared to the one you're being reborn into. So, you need to be decisive at times. I won't be able to help after you've done things you'll regret in your new life." Alficius said in a soft tone, yet he had a serious expression.

"… I understand.." Kamado Tanjiro nodded after hearing the words of Alficius.

"It's good if you understand. Then off you go!"

Alficius clicked his fingers, and a light enveloped Kamado Tanjiro. Before the demon Slayer could say anything, he vanished from the plane, leaving only Alficius in the vast green land.

" Sigh… Hopefully this time, my chosen one can succeed."
