3 Chapter 3: How not to become an assassin

(???'s POV)

Walking behind my supposedly 'father' Kazusa-no-Suke, I was trying to find a way to find out where the hell I was.

(AN: Kazusa-no-suke was a general under Emperor Toba. His appearance is based on Elder Shinji or Unglaus Brain from Overlord 2.)

It was evident that I was somewhere in the early period of Japan but the exact location or date was unknown. All I could see is trees and dim moonlight rinsing between branches.

"Brat, what is your name?"

The man asked turning his head a little.

My name? What is my name?

As far as I know, this body was never given a name by his parents before selling me as a slave to this asshole.

As for my name of previous life, for some reason, I couldn't recall my name.

So I remained silent and shook my head in denial.

"Good. You shouldn't have a name. You will be Nanashi (Nameless) for your life." He spoke while trying to get a reaction out of me but I just nodded without minding much.

After getting nothing, he nodded with an assuring smile before leading me towards a hut.

If I was a normal child, I would be spooked by such a scary place. It was not a hut but a house of a witch that came out directly from a fantasy novel.

Kazusa knocked three times and spoke the Arabic word 'ana huna' which means 'I am here'. I was a little shocked but not until an old man with a long beard, whose face was covered by a hood, opened the door.

"Hashshashin-sama, I brought the boy," Kazusa spoke respectfully.

For a time being, I was perplexed until I realized why the old man was called Hashshashin.

The old man was one of many Hassans under a cult called Hassan-i-Sabah. They were a group of fanatics calling themselves true executors sent by God while in general, they were nothing but killers who were the first of their kind who believed to kill in secret.

The term Assassin is born from their names Hashshashin or Hassans.

I didn't know how the hell this old man even cross the whole continent to end up on this island that will be called Japan.

The old man turned his head down and looked at me as if he had seen a ghost.

"Oh… I didn't notice the child. He is a perfect candidate as the next apostle of God. Leave him here. He will come back around a month or two." The old man said.

Kazusa turned around and glared daggers in my eyes. "Listen brat, the collar in your neck is a symbol that you belong to me, your father. If you try to run, you will die from the poison in your collar. You get it?"

I nodded with a monotone face.

I was not in hurry to cut his throat. As a person who used to live in a slump; I was used to such kind of treatment.

He nodded with a satisfied smile and then left.

"Come in child, I will teach you the true way of God's teaching." The old man said and entered his home.

I mentally sighed and followed him. I knew that a trail of bullshit brainwashing will be waiting for me but unknown to them I already had a soul of an assassin.

"Remember child, a true Hashshashin never leaves a clue. It is your first and foremost lesson." The old man said and showed me a dagger.

It was not an ordinary dagger since it was drenched with deathly poison and with one slight cut, it will be game over.

He showed a gesture that I should hold the dagger but he was holding with the hilt meaning that I somehow have to hold the dagger from the blade and with my tiny hands; one cut will be the end of me.

So I softly knocked his hand that made him lose the grip and released the dagger. Before the dagger could touch the floor, I carefully caught it from the hilt without making any noise. All of this happened within the span of a second.

I wanted to laugh at his expression whose eyes could have popped out from shock.

"Excellent! Excellent! You are born Hashshashin!!" He opened a parade of praises and started saying that I was sent by God to spread his word or something.

After that my training started.

Let me tell you a tale of discovery.

First I was reincarnated or transmigrated in the early period of Japan, probably Heian Era. There isn't any date mentioned since people record days according to the reign of the Emperor's period. Since Japan is still unknown to the outside world except for China, there was no concept of AD or BC.

Second, are my abilities. For some reason, I have little to no presence and am quite unnoticeable even if I am present in a room with only a few people.

This makes me the perfect candidate for being a Hashshashin or assassin. Thanks to my profession of being an assassin in my previous life, I was given an early leeway from the training.

The old man taught me to how to make various drugs and poisons with various herbs and vegetation. It was entirely new to me since I only knew hand-to-hand combat and how to handle guns.

However, I also discovered some of my weaknesses.

First I had some level of amnesia where I couldn't recall many things of my previous life. Knowledge was still there but many common names that I had known were missing from my memory.

First I had severe insomnia where I couldn't sleep properly no matter how much I try. Probably due to my abusive parents of this body.

Speaking of parents, I found out that even my parents forgot about me due to my low presence. They just sold me for one gold amulet, such jerks.

Yes, my very first task was also to end their life to hide my origin.

"W-who are... who are you!?" A man asked while holding the body of his dead wife.

I shook my head and shot a small dagger on his skull.

"I was your son."

And that's how I ended the lives of my parents.

Although I have accepted my identity, because of them, I still had mental trauma from all the suffering since childhood.

I stopped feeling bad or anything. Even though I hate killing innocent even if they were my parents who had abandoned me, I can't do anything if it was a task.

After setting the house on fire, I left the village in which this body had spent 12 years while being neglected.

"What a beautiful sunset." I smiled looking at the diving sun behind the mountain. "Yabai! I have to return before it gets dark."

I put on my hood and ran towards the forest where I lived.

"Finally, my last day in that shit hole."

It was a smile of relief on my face.

(AN: To be honest, I didn't want to add a Hassan but to make him an assassin in the early Heian period I had to connect the dots.)

Hello guys, thanks for reading. Sorry for delayed in update because of my poor health conditions. I am stacking chapters so that updates wont stop.

It is confirmed that I will add Raiko and her four heavenly kings along with Kiichi Hougen if possible. By the way, it is highly unlikely but I will try to end this novel within 50 or so chapters.

Please support me with power stones and good reviews.
