7 Magic knowledge

"Dust, magma, weather, pierce, explosion and so on but those are rarer. So, you are already lucky, even if you just have 2 affinities. They can be anything from growth to speed. Affinity says that you can use only that kind of magic, but some affinities overlap with each other's. As an example, is water and fluids, as both can use water magic, but fluids can use every fluid substance such as honey, blood, or juice. No affinity is superior, power of your affinity is solely depended on your imagination and hard work.

In some cases, there are people born with peak affinities such as space, time, gravity, void, particle, creation, destruction, life, and death. Those affinities cannot be gained by any means unlike normal and rare ones where you can eat a Kridori fruit to gain a random affinity. In all of Zenith there are currently only 18 known people with a peak affinity. The number and what kind of affinities you get are completely random, but the chance is slightly higher to get a certain affinity if the parents have the same elements. Well, most magicians have 3 to 4 affinities.

"*sigh* That means I am below average… so, I am weaker than most mages."

"Well yes, but actually no. Having more does not mean you are weaker or less of a mage. Look at the current headmaster of the 'Thithran Institute' who also just have 2 affinities in darkness and magnetism, but he pushed his magic capabilities to the utmost limits that even outshines me in magic control. The more affinities you possess the more you need split your training or neglect some, but you also have more diversity and choices during combat. So, to possess many affinities has a good and a bad side to it. And you still haven´t eaten a Kridori fruit so don´t worry about it too much about it. You need to have form a Mana core first to eat this fruit anyway.

And you my little Merce have a fire and poison affinity as you already know. Poison is a rare affinity and in combination with fire you can craft incredible unique spells. But more on that later.

So, where were? Oh right, most magicians have 3 to 4 affinities, but can have up to 6. And in extreme cases there are people born with more than 6 Affinities. Those children are called 'children that are loved by Gaia' or short 'Gaia´s Children'."

"So, teacher is a Gaia´s Child?" asked the boy amazed. He just knowvery little about his teacher's past. She didn´t really like to talk about her past or abilities. Merces just know that his teacher is someone amazing but saw her as a lazy and knowledge thirsty teacher.

"You are correct my student. I am one of the few, that have more than 6 affinities. To be precise I have 8. My affinities are fire, water, wind, light, earth, magma, heat, and spikes. That´s why I got the nickname 'Octademon'. That and because I mainly use heat, fire magma and spike magic to kill my enemies. So everywhere I went I leaved nothing but a burned landscape and impaled people…

But that was a long time ago and it is all in the past now. So don´t think about it too much.

Now back to the topic.

The person with the most recorded affinities was the elemental hero Milfret with 10 affinities. He had fire, water, lightning, sound, luck, explosion, venom, wood, eyes, and acceleration affinity. A complete anomaly to the world. Even if he had such luck, his life wasn´t as easy as you may think. The hero Milfret was a commoner and with many noble's envy of his ability, he was shunned and bullied. All his skills and spells were self-taught. With inhuman amount of training and perseverance he eventually became a hero after discovering his talents in spell fusion, also known as spell craft.

His talents for combining spells of different affinities were on a whole new level, and to this day no one could even get close to his kind of control.

Spell craft is fundamental for creating unique and original spells. A good example is the elf Nelphir Woodwyn who prolonged his life by creating a spell that rejuvenated his cells. He is 352 years old and still looks like he is in his primes, but his Mana core is slowly deteriorating. Some even tried to gain eternal life by creating an original spell, but those experiments failed miserably. At most you can prolong your life 2 times a normal human's lifespan with a mythical Magic scroll called 'Scroll of Longevity'. That means an Elf who has a lifespan of 200 years can live up to 300 years with such a scroll. The scroll only works on healthy people who are out of their growing phase. That means, that humans under 18 cannot use the scroll without risking bursting their Mana core or crippling their magic channels.

Now back to Spell fusion. You can´t just randomly combine any spells with each other's. It all depends on magic affinity, magic tier, mana consumption, and magic circles. You can´t combine a low tier fireball with a low tier water spray, because the affinity is contradicting each other, and the spell would explode in your face.

For magic tier it is very simple. The legendary tier spell 'Heavens weight' can´t be combined with the low tier spell 'blue flame', because the higher tier chant will overshadow the lower tier chant, and for mana consumption it´s logical.

So, say you have the mythical spell 'Atham pull' that use 45.000 Mana on the Persus scale and the Mythical spell 'Ground annihilation' with 50.000 Mana and create a new type of high Mythical spell, it will then cost 250.000 Mana. So, 5 times the pricier spell. So why should you cast a created high Mythical tier spell, instead of using a legendary spell that uses 120.000 mana. Additionally, it would be near impossible and inefficient to combine spells that are higher than Epic tier due to its complex magic circles and mana consumption.

But more about Spell craft for another time." Said the purple haired mage while closing a brown grimoire.

"When are you going to teach me how to cast intermediate spells?" asked the boy in anticipation. Till now he only learned 3 low tier spell such as his 'navy bullet', 'fire coat' and 'poison splash' which are all low tier spells. The reason he never learned intermediate spells is because Alaya, his teacher, is a natural born genius when it comes to spell casting and control. That means she can´t explain how to control mana output and magic channel control. For her it is like breathing, something complete natural. That and she is to lazy to teach him more complex spells.

"Hmmm, when you are older, or you can go to into a magic school. You are dismissed."

"*sight* Understood, thanks for the lesson teacher." Said the boy with a light bow and walking out of the room. Hearing the boy leave, Zanek got up and followed closely behind his master.

Alaya just closed her eyes and continued to drink her tea in silence. When the boy is gone, she pulled out a light blue crystal with dark blue swirling energy in it. "The boy is almost 15. If he has enough mana capacity, I think I will recommend him to enroll into the academy… but he wants to be an adventurer so one or two years are enough and the teachers there can teach him better than me." Said the lazy mage to herself. "Well, it´s his choice anyway…"

Then the Octademon got up from her comfy place and grabbed some new books to read while creating a golem that puts back her unsorted books.

"Finally over with the lesson. And now to weapon training with uncle. Are you ready for that Partner?" asked the boy walking through the town under the burning summer sun with a lazy smile on his face.

"Gruu sha!"

"Don´t worry I didn't forget to give you a Bergon crystal afterwards."
