Royal Academy Part 5

--The Nydisian Kingdom, Eraregord, Royal Academy--

Elizabeth tilted her head upon hearing Katherine's question as she was trying to think of the best way to narrate what had happened.

"Well, as the human world found out about the existence of supernatural beings, things began to change drastically. Humans felt threatened and retaliated against a threat that wasn't there."

"Safe zones for the supernatural were opened up to the world but places like Peru, Elysian, Avingora and more, were quickly invaded by the human population."

"This led to angst among the leaders of the world and the situation made people grow weary fast. Many things that are now accepted today were forbidden in the old era. One of which involved species and societal norms."

"As is known, a single breed supernatural cannot choose their mates, and as time went on werewolves were becoming mates with humans, vampires becoming mates with werewolves, this gave birth to the reign of hybrids."

"It was later on discovered hybrids could choose their mates through blood sharing, which only threw the non-supernatural population into further disgust of what their world had turned into."

"The humans and their supporters then created a law stating how initiating the mating process between two different species was strictly forbidden. It was believed that the gods would not allow such a demonic match to be made, the law stood strong and firm then it was so."

"Hybrids, mixed breeds, and half-bloods were looked at as an abomination in nature. If one was to ever consummate their love, babies that were born of such nature would have their throats slit and thrown into a fiery pit imitating them returning to hell."

"As more and more crossbreeds were born, the court realized that the law was not being upheld. The humans who feared for their lives, the hunters who felt the need to eliminate the potential threats to humans and the witches that were angered by the distribution in nature and therefore began to retaliate."

Katherine never imagined the world to like such, no wonder most supernaturals detested humans. "Where was the reign of queens in all this? Weren't they supposed to protect the supernaturals?"

"You see, just before the war started, the previous Queen died. Some thought she was poisoned, others believed she was assassinated. But after my readings, I suspect witches were responsible." Elizabeth was almost certain of that, at least based on what she had read.

Katherine frowned upon hearing witches may have been involved. "Aren't witches supposed to fight with the supernaturals and not against them?"

"Most did but several covens sided with the humans, I'm not too sure of the details as I wasn't born during the time and the scrolls do not mention much of it," Elizabeth explained.

Lady Nicole and Lady Alice were engaged in a separate light conversation, finding it a bit of a bore speaking about the old ways.

"What exactly did the witches do?" Katherine asked. She was curious as to how things were in the old era seeing as most people from that time were dead.

"Well, after the queen died the cardinal was unable to choose the next successor, I believe it's because the witches trapped its power in the queen's body," When a queen ascends the throne during her coronation one of the rituals is embedding the cardinal's power in the queen. But when a queen dies, this power is released back into the cardinal but somehow the witches must've disrupted that process.

Lady Alice briefly chimed into their conversation, "Katherine, please don't listen to Lady Elizabeth. She's full of conspiracy theories throughout the events of history."

Katherine let out a soft chuckle and Alice went back to her discussion with Nicole. "Conspiracies are what give life meaning," Elizabeth said to spite Lady Alice jokingly.

"But why would humans want to fight with the kind of people they want to kill?" Katherine was a bit puzzled as to why humans would fight with witches if they were trying to rid the earth realm of supernatural beings.

"See that's a misconception most seem to have, witches are humans but with a deeper connection to everything natural, they still live the same life force as humans. The main reason why they fought alongside humans was due to the rise of sorcerers,"

"Sorcerers?" Katherine remembered Lucian mentioning sorcerers a few nights ago.

"Witches who have gone rogue and abandoned their bottom line [1]," Elizabeth explained. "Anyways, the war went on for hundreds of years, the killing and bloodshed was constant but eventually the war was ended by the King of Avingora."

Katherine knew that there was no kingdom called Avingora, at least not in her time period. "Who's the King of Avingora?"

"My cousin," Katherine turned her head to look at Lady Nicole who had spoken. Her face scrunched up in confusion but before Katherine could say anything, Nicole continued speaking, "Lord Williams."

Katherine was shocked, to say the least, "What happened to Avingora?"

"The land was burnt to the ground during the final battle," said Lady Elizabeth.

Katherine gulped upon receiving this new piece of information. Is that where Lucian's loyalty to Nydisia came from?

Katherine was starting to feel a little lightheaded so she stood up from the table, "Excuse me," She said to the ladies and excused herself from the private dining room.

Katherine walked down the hall slowly, taking her time to admire the paintings that were on display.

She felt a slight shiver and the light goosebumps on her skin rose as though they were on alert. She turned around when she heard light footsteps but there was no one there.

Ever since what happened in the Othes forest, she'd been on high alert.

For a moment, she thought someone was watching her. Maybe she was just being paranoid, Katherine thought as she sped up to her room and locked the door behind her.
