5 Survivors

Lucas was speechless, he had never even seen it in movies! The woman's deformed body was withering and taking on a hideous appearance. As she withered, he realized that he was not feeling any pain even though he knew of all her injuries.

Lowering his gaze to examine his own body, he realized her wounds were healing! Her blood was coming back to him at a slow rate at first, but it began to accelerate until there was no blood left in it, not even her wounds left any marks.

He felt like a fictional character well known to him, the only difference being that the character had three claws between his fingers. He was feeling refreshed and somehow excited.

He had powers!

Realizing that his body had a great regenerative capacity, he got up and looked again at the woman's corpse. It was completely dry, with only skin and bones, even its antennae where the eyes should have been had disappeared.

It was at that moment that he noticed something. The woman's remains were very similar to her father's, differentiating only the bones, the woman had them, but her father didn't. Ferdinando turned to dust when his son touched him and the woman, even though she was poked with her foot, was still solid and not crumbling into dust.

The young man fell to his knees when analyzing the situation, and expressed his feelings:

"AARG!"

His scream was the loudest he could give, he was angry, frustrated, regretful and sad. He realized why being able to walk now, his father, his friend, his mate and more, had been consumed by him. Apparently his body absorbed all of his father's nutrients to heal his legs.

Who said he wanted this? Who did this to him? Why that?

After screaming and expressing all his pain, he felt tiredness permeating his entire body. He sat on the floor and just sat there thinking about nothing, just waiting for time to pass. His eyes were blank looking at nothing, his face was expressionless. He stayed like that for a couple of minutes and began to review his life.

A young man with a single case of leukemia, the son of a nearly billionaire father, trapped in the hospital and with his daily draining of blood. There wasn't much to tell, anyone could say his life was shit, however, he remembered the happy times he had with his father, his chess games, his conversations, the movies they watched together…

As he reviewed his life, he realized that he was actually privileged. How many could say that even with leukemia they had a stable and relatively good life for 19 years? How many could say that even having a very rich father, they still had countless moments together? How many? Definitely not many, not even a few, his life was most likely unique.

'My father was always by my side, always took care of me.'

He was missing his father, Ferdinand was definitely the most important person in his life.

'And even so I killed him, even though it wasn't on purpose, it's still my fault. It's not a dream, he really died."

He began to accept his reality and see that he would be alone from now on.

'I'm not going to waste my life, I'm going to live it like never before, I'm going to show my dad that he didn't raise a spoiled boy. This world is inside out, first the bombs, then the beam and now… this thing; there may still be more of that out there, I must prepare myself. My body has also changed, however, it still doesn't show bestial characteristics, but why?

He was now concentrating hard to survive, and so he began to gather all the information he had.

"This… metamorphosis doesn't seem to be the consequence of the bombs, if not, there would have been humans like that since the beginning of the war, so all that remains is the beam of that star that hit the earth."

The young man started thinking as he walked around the kitchen.

'But I can't blindly state that, we were here in this bunker all along and we didn't leave, maybe that delayed the metamorphosis. There's also Neut who might have something to do with it. It's no use thinking about it now, I can't know the truth just with the information I have. My priority should be to survive and only then find out why.'

He then looked at the dead woman's body, then noticed that the woman was very pale, not the normal paleness with a slightly yellowish color, but rather a grayish color. Lucas knew this wasn't normal, but if there was anything in the world in abundance it was abnormality. So he simply jotted it down in his mind and continued his analysis.

'There are some mini scales appearing on her body, but they are few. I can only think of 2 possibilities right now, either she was still transforming and needed nutrients, in which case it was me, or she already transformed completely. Hopefully it's the second option, I don't even want to see someone with such a 'complete transformation', if even someone supposedly incomplete is already like that. My body has also changed, but I'm different from her and I don't have those characteristics, so there must be at least two types of…'

He wondered for a while what to name these new humans, if they were still human.

'Mutants! There must be the transformed mutants and the untransformed ones like me, in the first case they obviously have no civility, so either I kill them or I run away.'

After thinking about it he realized the gravity of the matter. Under their hypothesis of an incomplete transformation, there could be more of these mutant monsters in the bunker and if they managed to transform completely, it would be nearly impossible to survive.

He wasted no more time and searched the kitchen for anything that would help him kill these monsters. He soon found a large butcher's knife and some other knife.

Wielding both knives he walked out of the kitchen, into the hallway and looked for more survivors, praying his first guess was wrong.

Passing through the dimly lit corridors and with a lot of tension in his movements, made Lucas very uncomfortable. He wanted to walk faster, but his body simply couldn't, as it was in alert mode in case any deformed mutants appeared.

He passed bedrooms, living rooms, and kitchens, but found no one. Already starting to feel calmer and more relaxed, he quickened his pace and arrived at the infirmary. As he approached the door he could see shadows moving through the crack. The door had a part of glass where you could see into the room. As a precaution, he approached silently and tried to see through the glass. The scene he saw forced his heart to race again. He saw a man on his back with his clothes soaked in blood, he was about six feet tall, his arms were disproportionately large, the left was as small as a shoe and the right touched the ground and was thin, as if it were a devil, both do not match the human body. The right arm was picking something up from the ground and bringing it to its mouth, making bone crunching sounds.

In front of the man there were bodies strewn all over the place, shattered; they had legs, arms and trunks thrown on the ground like riding legos. It was likened to a scene in a horror movie and the young man just didn't throw up for fear of drawing the man's attention.

However, that wasn't enough since the mutant man suddenly turned and looked at him deeply. At that point, if Lucas had a soul, he would surely have escaped long ago, but he quickly turned and stood by the door, not even trying to see the man's face.

His goal was to hide behind the door and when that mutant left the infirmary, he would attack him by surprise from behind. However, when he heard the mutant's footsteps, it was suddenly as if he activated a sixth sense, which could sense the location of the moving man. Extra sense of him notified him that the monster man had sensed him too. Lucas felt the shape-shifter turn his head in his direction, even though there was a wall separating them.

Lucas then realized that his plan would not work.
