7 Chapter 7 : Is thieving a thief really a thievery ?

When he was younger Sig' was impulsive, restless, unable to stay still for just one minute.

But the jail changed this, it transformed him into a hunter, able to wait for his prey to fall in his trap, or watching carefully until it was the good timing to strike.

Memories flowed again in his mind but he rejected it, he needed to stay focus.

Crouching in the bushes the young man watched as the Hp bar of the boss was slowly worn-out, it has already been 10 minutes and he was obliged to admit that the players weren't bad, or at least that Black Beard was pretty good.

He did his best to keep the attention of the beast even while he wasn't a tank, inflicting as much damages as he could.

Sig' couldn't help but frown when he saw the two others dps slashing at the fur of the bear, didn't they saw the poor damages they were able to deal?

The only one who seemed to understand the mechanic was the leader, so the fight was longer.

1100/1300…

950/1300…

700/1300…

Sig' yawned, he was even tempted to do a little sleep, the weather was pretty good in this virtual world.

500/1300…

350/1300…

The players were starting to show signs of excitement, but Black Beard brought them back to the reality.

"Focus on the fight, we will celebrate when the boss will be dead" he ordered coldly, and they immediately calmed down.

When the HP of the bear reached 200, Sig' decided to wade in, starting with the wizard.

The poor man didn't realize what happened to him until the knife sank in his back, he screamed from the pain but wasn't able to do anything before transforming into light.

Black Beard noticed him immediately and cursed while avoiding a paw.

"You fucking bastard, how dare you !' He howled, but Sig' stayed impassive, he focused on the hunter, who he took down, but not before receiving an arrow in the shoulder.

The young man looked at his Hp, there was still 70 remaining, piece of cake.

"You two, take care of him!" Black Beard ordered, unable to leave the bear as he was the one who tanked him.

The thief tried his best but how could he content against this cold-blooded killer?

Seeing another of his comrade falling down, he roared angrily while doing his best to kill the bear.

The brawny man couldn't accept that all their work would be for nothing, he couldn't die here, not before killing the boss!

Sig' smirked and avoided an enraged punch from the brawler, before striking back with a slash, blood flowed everywhere while his opponent screamed painfully.

Sig' finished him off before slowly walking toward the last one.

Black Beard.

The responsible of all of this.

It was him who started this war, so it was only justice that it ends with his life.

The brawny man glanced at him with hatred, who was this bastard who dared fight against his hegemony?!

He was the guild master of one of the best guild, the feared Black Beard, usually no one dared to oppose him, and they kissed his feets, begging for favors!

But here he was! This Siegfried, almost a child, daring to kill his crew!

No, Black Beard couldn't accept this.

He roared and charged at Sig', leaving alone the astonished bear, raising his axe above his head to slash with all his might.

Sig' smirked, but his gaze was cold, he easily avoided the strike, hatred was a powerful feeling if you master it, otherwise it will only lead you to demise.

The young man was like him before, like a mad dog, but he learned that it wasn't good for him.

Listening to your heart instead of your head lead you to mistakes, Black Beard was the perfect example.

Sig' overtook him and slashed at the bear, just one time, but it was enough to make him the next one on the aggro list, he will become the tank after the death of the actual one.

Which would happen really soon.

"How dare you?!" The brawny man roared "This is MY boss, you don't have the right to steal him from me!"

"Oh? And did you have the right to try to steal my treasure chest? And using me as an excuse to take control of the area? Tell me, is thieving a thief really a thievery?"

"You…you…" Black Beard was at loss for words, in his head it was pretty clear, he and his men could rob everyone, but the contrary couldn't happen!

Wasn't it the right of the stronger?

"I am Black Beard! "He said while trying to slice his opponent.

"Yes, I know, but it doesn't matter. To me, you're just another one who will soon be gone." Sig' answered. "But before that, I want you to carve my name in your brain, and remember it each time you will be tempted to scam another innocent".

The young man cut his torso, what an idea to not wearing anything, he was an easy target to anyone!

Black Beard tried to say something but the knife sank deep in his stomach, he rolled his eyes, opened his mouth, but couldn't utter a word.

He disappeared in a flash of light, only leaving behind him a huge and angry bear.

[Big red bear, white average boss, 98/1300 PV, level 8]

Sig' looked at him, he was able to feel the anger of the beast, there was flames in his eyes, it didn't feel like a game at all, the emotion was real, the feeling of danger too.

When the bear moved forward, the young man felt the adrenaline flowing in his veins, it was the same feeling as when he beat the men near the library, the feeling he was craving for.

He avoided the claws which sliced the air in front of him and couldn't help but smile crazily, more! He wanted more!

His knife whistled in the wind, aiming for the snout, where he leaved a bloody scar, the bear roared and pounced on him.

Sig' did his best to retreat just in time, even without taking the hit he knew that it would be deadly, his opponent was level 8 and it was also a boss, there would be no chance for him to get out alive.

Finally even if it was a boss, it was still a bear after all, he was stronger and taller, but his pattern stayed the same. Maybe it was because the difficulty of the boss was just white average, but Sig' found the fight pretty repetitive, hopefully there was the thrill of the death, or else he would have been bored.

He was also surprised that there was no other Black Beard Company member in the area who tried to stop him, maybe Black Beard was too ashamed to call his friends.

[The Big red bear is dead, you gain 1500 experience point.]

[Congratulations! You're now level 3! You get 5 stat point and one spell point.]

Sig' opened his eyes wide, he didn't expect the boss to give him so much experience point! No wonder they wanted to keep him for them alone, it was a goldmine!

[System announcement: Congratulations to the player Siegfried for becoming the first one of the game to kill a Boss. He gains a spell point and a title. End of the system announcement.]

Oh shit!

Now it was over for the discretion, everyone in the game knew what he had done.

But still, it was a nice reward, but what was that title?

He opened his character window, and saw a new tab called "title", he clicked on it to discover that he had only one, which he could activate.

"Title: The first. When you wear it, you get a +1% critical stat."

Waow, it was very useful!

Next, he went to the corpse of the bear which was glowing, wondering what he was about to get this time.

There was different items, 10 silver coins, which was a big fortune, another batch of unusual quality bear fur and an item.

When Sig' saw it, his eyes were shining bright.

[Bear dagger, quality : white average. Damage : 10-13, rapidity : 1.5. level 3 required]

A weapon! It was a weapon!

The young man couldn't help but laugh out loud, he was right to trust his own luck, look like the time gave him reason!

He wore his new weapon, the dagger was as light as his knife, it was perfect for his balance.

Ring ring!

It was Morgana, Sig' decided to take the call while moving from where he was, no need to wait for an eventual reinforcement from the Black Beard Company.

"You must have something to tell me my little sig'", she asked with impatience.

"Not a big deal, I stumbled upon Black Beard and his team in the forest, they were fighting a boss, so I killed them all, the players and the boss, that's all."

Morgana smiled, he was even more astonishing than what she expected.

"Come back to the city Sig', you've done enough, peoples are scared and you landed a huge blow to the Black Beard Company."

"If I leave the forest, they'll find me on the way Morgana."

"Then just use your teleportation scroll".

Sig' raised an eyebrow, which teleportation scroll?

Morgana sighed, maybe he was a natural born killer, but for the rest the young man was still a beginner.

"Open your bag, there is an item named "teleportation scroll", you can use it each 30 minutes and it will bring you back to the city of your choice. Actually the default choice is the beginner town."

Sig' nodded, indeed it seemed pretty useful.

He used the item and saw light surrounding him, it lasted five seconds before he disappeared, only to find himself in a street.

The young man looked around him, there was a lot of players running everywhere, but still less than in the field at the start of the game.

Morgana gave him the name of the place where she was and he set off immediately.

He found the young woman quietly seated in a corner, looking at a screen in front of her.

Sig' took the chair in front of her and silently waited until she was done.

Morgana raised her eyes and looked at him, he seemed to be fine.

"You caused quite the commotion, the forum is in chaos", she explained.

"it was them who begun this mess, not me."

"The question isn't to know who is right, the fact is that for most of the player, you are the enemy, you killed a lot of people."

"But you told me…"

"I know what I told you" she interrupted him "And I'm not saying that you've done wrong, quite the contrary."

Sig' was at a loss for words, what did she want after all?

"Listen Sig', I have a plan, and this plan includes that you had the reputation of someone we shouldn't mess with. For the moment it's a total success, the other players hate you, but they also fear you, so the first step is done."

The young man nodded, he had a total faith in her for the "thinking" part of their team.

"Then, what is the next step?" He asked with curiosity.

"We are going to create our own mercenary group."

Sig' frowned, what was that?

"I guess you don't know what it is, so I'm gonna explain it to you, listen carefully."

He nodded and focused on her words.

"In each town, you can find a mercenary branch. It's a place when you can create your own mercenary group, and get a lot of special quest from the game itself. Those quest are divided in rank, from F to A, and S – but this one isn't for the moment, so I'll explain it to you later – and those quest can give you experience point, gold and different items, like gear or craft material." She explained it.

"Why don't we do normal quest if it's the same?" He wondered doubtfully.

"Because a mercenary quest provides you more benefits, but it's also more difficult. To put it simply, casual players do normal quest, and good or pro players do mercenary quest."

"So we won't do any normal quest?"

"Of course we'll do, normal quests can sometimes give you special reward, and it's not the point. The mercenary group has also another advantage. Players can offer quests too."

The young man was lost.

"I don't understand, players can offer quests which give experience point to others players? Isn't it a little bit unfair?"

"The player's quests can't give experience point, but they can choose the reward. Imagine you want to kill a player which keep killing you, you offer a quest which ask to kill this player, and in exchange you give a piece of gear as a reward."

Sig' nodded, this was more understandable for him in this way.

"But why doing this? What is your purpose Morgana ?"

The young woman smiled at him, but in her eyes a special spark was shining.

"I want to create a mercenary group which will become famous, it will be your way to get money and fame, as I promised you earlier."
