016 Field examination (2)

We began carefully observing Klein's movements. He was dexterous, completely overexploiting his two hands.

As the field was a grassland, there wouldn't be enough spots to hide, so instead, he smeared himself with dirt and began hopping lightly around the field.

Everytime he would throw some meat, the bloodpede would come out and he would slay them.

His efficiency made it look like it was easy.

"Did you get it now?? Of course you don't have to kill it, you're not strong enough yet, but what you can do is dodge. Dodge its advancements, use the method I taught you. If I catch you using mana or Aura, then you would face punishments." He said handing us a bag of rotten meat.

The smell it emitted was an abomination by all means....

(Yeah I get it, my jokes are bad....)

"Roy, you go first", he said pushing me to the enigma of a land.

I took a deep breath, removed my boots and touched the ground like he did.

I couldn't feel no Gaia's mana, no shit. I closed my eyes and solely focused on the ground. All my senses dulled and my touch sensitivity jumped to inhumane levels.

I could feel ants walking on the soil. That's right, ANTS. I was so focused that even a bomb placed next to me, wouldn't disturb my work on hand.

That's when I felt it, a small but observable tremor below the ground. It was minute but detectable nevertheless.

I quickly threw the meat on the ground and waited for the worm to take the bait.

CRACK,

Suddenly a worm at the size of a small python, erupted from the ground, instead of grabbing the meat, it just wriggled towards me.

'The fck is happening. You bastard, didn't you say they wouldn't harm humans' I cursed looking at Klein. But that mf, was amused, looking like he had expected such an outcome.

"You f-",

Swish,

The worm quickly flew past attempting to bite me with its forcipules.

I put all my strength on my legs and dodged to the right. Landing back on my feet with a flip.

Fck,

I quickly was going to control mana when,

(Use this as a chance brat. That bastard teaching you, he's smart. It's a good technique to learn to fight without relying on mana or Aura. After all you humans were able to put up a great fight with just physical prowess once. Well that's another story. Regardless, just keep dodging like he said. You won't harm it even with mana so do what you did. Observe the ripples in the air, every minute tremors and every small detail. Your body will start doing the work automatically once you get accustomed to it.)

'Useless fck, why do you always answer when I'm In a pinch.' I cursed this shitty curse inside my body.

That's right, I cursed a curse, great irony!!

I did what he said. I began observing the surroundings, the worm which had disappeared into the ground, mended its movements, making it refine which in turn increased the difficulty to detect.

I didn't lose hope. I closed my eyes, shutting of all senses. A quick jolt impacted on the ground, but I caught that.

'Here it comes',

It erupted from the ground, right below my feet, with its forcipules wide open.

I dodged back with a slight push from my hands on the ground.

Looking at the worm speeding my way. I began running, every time it would dive I would roll on to the side and change my direction.

They say one must never turn their backs on a predator but right now I had a plan.

I was constantly running around in loops, to disfigure the already fcked up field. This way with the whole ground covered in spots and holes, detection would become easier.

I kept dodging every attempt made by the worm, until it suddenly wriggled itself in a coil and and started rolling on the ground.

It's back now being exposed I could see the disgusting outline of organs and the slimy chinitized body. I don't know if it was a trick but it looked extremely gullible.

But of course, I didn't take any risk and further distanced myself. And my premonition was right.

The stinger like legs suddenly squirted out a weird transparent liquid. The moment it came in contact with the grass or whatever was left, evaporated.

'Fck, was it acid?? How on earth??'

I was already tired from running around and the disgusting insect once again lunged at me.

But before I could move a, dagger pierced the worm killing it on spot.

'Hah, Hah,'

I sighed in relief.

I was a bit pissed off.

"What the hell was that Klein. You said it wouldn't attack humans, it was vary blah blah, see what happened"

"Yes it was, but you see you forgot one step which I did before confronting it. When I said to examine the field and analyze it, I covered myself with mud and dirt from the ground. Bloodpedes are not smart organisms, if they find someone other than them able to blend in with the soil, then they would consider that being superior to itself. That's the main reason why I told OBSERVE AND LEARN",

"Woow, so you just used me as an example, a test piece??!",

"Not really, I called you because you looked quite composed compared to others but now that I think about it, you messed up and I could use it as an example",

"KLEIN, I could've died you bastard. What-"

"You didn't, I was there nothing would happen to any of you. I could take hundreds of such beasts togeather and not break a sweat" he flexed cutting me off.

"But, your insight was admirable, breaking down a field which was in favour of your enemy is an excellent tactical prowess. Well done. Although confining it into a small field of area could have put you in danger as you don't know its weak points, it was indeed the best outcome to expect, take a break now, Alice, next would be you", he said.

I didn't get why he was making Alice work on the wasteland I made but I got my answer soon.

The grassland began mending itself back once again, returning to how it once was.

I was flabbergasted.

'It just mended itself, what is going on??'

I decided to check this phenomenon out in the central library later.

Alice who came and sat next to me, looked at me with weird eyes.

"How did you do it??",

"How did I do what??"

"How were you able to sense that.....thing",

"Aah, it's quite simple actually. Forget everything around you and focus only on your skin. To be precise it's touch. Feel the earth, accept it."

".....Your making fun of me aren't you??" She asked slightly pissed off.

"I don't know, you tell me" I smiled teasingly.

She punched my arm and turned her face away.

"I'm not talking to you R O Y" she spelled out my name turning her back to me.

Although I'm not fond of kids, this gesture was cute. Extremely cute.

/What??, don't judge me. I just said it was cute. I didn't mean her, I meant her action.

I went back to Alice, apologized and explained her a few tactics to follow. Klein being Klein didn't utter anything on how to do the so called field examination, so I just told her my perspective.

I also made sure I told Nero and Jack about how to do things.

Nero of course boasted telling this was a cup of cake. While Jack just nodded his head with a thank you.

The guy doesn't speak much.

(Don't judge me, he did specifically say, cup of cake, perhaps cause he was confused with cup of tea and piece of cake)

The rest of the day went pretty well. Alice well is just a goddamn genius. She messed up a bit twice but she caught up. She smeared herself in mud and made use of the grass. She quickly drained out moisture from the surface causing the surface to turn dry which caused the bloodpede to come out of the soil for exposure. She was easily able to detect movements due to lack of moisture.

In the end she didn't last as long as me of course.

You might argue that Klein didn't allow the usage of mana etc etc. But that was only true for field inspection.

She already completed her inspection and used mana for the activity.

Nero being the gigantic beast easily would block the worm with his huge broadsword. Every time it appeared, the worm would slither its way towards the chunk of mass (Nero) and he would block its advancements with his sword.

He couldn't last long either. His constitution was still weak.

The one who surprised me the most was Jack.

He was a hard-working kid. He wasn't a genius like Alice or Nero, he failed almost 10 times, but every time his performance improved. He was also the one who lasted as long as me.

In front of such monsters, I don't know where I would amount. I was soo far back.
