Even though orochimaru was surprised at punch momentum and not able to capture its trajectory he was able to dodge sideways using his chakra on speed burst of nanaya assassination arts and was able to dodge narrowly.

Orochimaru made an arc through the right side of mob character 1 and then placed kunai on his throat from behind. It was unknown when he took his kunia in placed it on the throat.
Only Orochimaru knows the whole process. At first, he applied the spin to his toes and rotated it at 180° to come behind the opponent. He took out kunia from the strap inside sleeves of his kimono during spinning and used a basic application of anăArmăstyle of nanaya assination arts to increase hand attacking speed and placed kunia on his opponents neck.
Where does hisăArmăstyle come from? Hmph, he didn't just waste time during these months he has upgraded his nanaya assassination arts to 35%. And at 25% completion, he got 1500 talent points. Most of which were used for chakra density and control as at this age chakra grows slowly.
After 25% progress study of some lowăArmăstyle which increases hand speed and flexibility could be done.It is also effective for a certain increase in handseal speed.
Even though he only grasped basic it did increase hand speed to some degree.
As for why use so much power for an unknown person. It was certainly because it was an unknown person. Because unknown is the most dangerous in the ninja world. Even if there are 99% chances that he is too weak.
But he doesn't want to take a 1% chance to take risk, after all, he has only one life and there is no ancient spirit or chakra beast sealed inside him which will save him if he was near death. He has to set up this mentality from the start so that even if he somehow becomes invincible he would take everyone as stronger than him and wolf in sheep's clothing.
And he just used enough strength to end match efficiently. It was just the tip of an iceberg of his current power. Although not so much high, below genin level no one is his opponent I.e. if he used all his Trump card ,which he will surely not do. Because the less known about you, the better it is.
As for genin, he doesn't have enough information on power levels to judge that.

I was very disappointed with orochimaru underestimation before the match started. But he has to understand that even if he is strong he should always have his guard up. After all, ninjas have many ways of sneak attacks and trickery.
[A/N : Third kazekage ---> Shit, why do konoha village have all the genius , and now even knowledgeable people are also there. Why didn't my teacher have such wisdom? If only I have such a teacher , maybe I would've able to live 2- 4 more years or die in war instead of becoming a puppet collection.]
But when the match started I was captivated by the sight before me. Even though it was fast for most academy students, as a chunnin I could certainly say it clearly, he has never seen such speed, momentum swiftness, and precision in an academic student of lower classes. It was like he was not fighting but dancing with his opponent.
Even though he has appreciation in his heart, but still he has to explain to him that even if he is strong but not invincible. Thus one should always ready for the unexpected.
After class, he pointed out mistakes of people and just pointed Orochimaru to keep high vigilance who was mature enough to know what he was pointing at.
After all, even though he was only a 5-year-old child he has not experienced his past life , but he still has observed society from 3rd POV.
[A/N: Author San has done this because he does not want MC to be a soul of the boy of 18 or an old man of 50 in the body of a child. I am not able to see how they behave like children when they are so old. So, it's like orochimaru has seen life from 3rd POV and was influenced a little by it. But overall he is orochimaru himself, not the person from the past life.]
Orochimaru just nodded in response as he certainly got teachers right intention. But hey orochimaru is cautious enough to even doubt himself (after all there are bugs like Kotoamatsukami in the ninja world) let alone other people. If one day his parents tried to assassinate him he will not be surprised (in a world where transformation jutsu is one of 3 basic taught even to a child, you should even cautious of rocks and logs let alone parents. Maybe they were enemy ninja transformed as parents. Maybe they are not loving parents but deceived him by the act for 4-5 years. After all, Kabuto is a prime example of the unpredictability of ninja emotion).
But cautiousness doesn't mean he would stop loving his parents, right. After all, since the day he became ninja consciousness has been engraved in his soul. He would even be cautious of rock lying on the ground, maybe it is a ninja transformed or air in the surrounding, maybe it contains colorless poison, although he is immune to poison.
