Volume 1.19 Naming Ceremony (1)

'It was often said that a mother is the light of the house while the father is the wall that protects the whole family.'

'In a distant past, when I was around middle school. I remember one of my classmates crying when her father died due to cancer. And starting that time, I remembered that she needed to stop schooling in my school because they couldn't take the expenses anymore.'

'It must be the truth, since her father passed away, the wall had crumbled, and their home was in disarray. Her family couldn't afford to pay for her to attend our school, so she had to drop out. Then, when I got to high school, I ran into that girl again. She appeared the same, but I knew she had changed. She informed us that after her father died, her mother began a business and things improved. She also occasionally assisted with their family business. The change I notice in her, as though she became stronger and more self-sufficient.'

'Mothers are truly the light of the home. With their light, the home slowly rebuild its walls again. Far stronger before since the whole family became a complete wall now surrounding that light. As long as it is for their children, their light would remain unwavering.'

'And because of this, I started to harbor jealousy about the girl. At least, she still had her light to guide and warm her. I know this is a wrong feeling to have. I should happy for her.'

'However the me, that lose both my light and my wall felt spiraling down into the abyss. I have the wealth yet I remained homeless wandering with no clear path ahead.'

'And this lifetime, when I thought I found my home. I only wanted one thing to reunite with the light and wall of my life. To have a family where I don't want to feel that heavy and lonely feeling again. When I thought I could confidently and foolishly protect that home.' Myrene glanced towards Ares and couldn't help but laughed. It was sad and a painful laugh.

'This must be my punishment for harboring that jealousy. No, the angel of life and death that this life would be hard, more harder than my previous life. However, I can't help but to think that this must be a punishment directly to me.'

Ares roared. His sharp slit green eyes fixed towards Myrene. Without an ounce of hesitation, he did the same thing he did two years ago. But this time his mace with sharp razor spikes appeared on his right hand. He rushed towards Myrene with his fist high above the air. This time as if out of reflex, Myrene's body leaped backwards. Then the once surprising left punch that sent her flying before came next. But this time she was able to evade it as well.

All those harsh training she endured for two years, it seemed it was now engraved inside her body. 'I need to kill, Ares?' Myrene was in a dilemma. Even if she refused to admit it herself, Ares never did her any harm and diligently taught her about everything she needed. All the reality that she needed to know and how she would face it.

Even with her earliest hunting, he was there watching to see that she would not get in too much trouble. Although he did not completely become good at her, he was the one who taught her on how she would survive in this wretched race she was living in!

'Is this the only way I can survive, Ares?!'

'Is this is what I need in order to become stronger?!'

'Damn!' She bit her lips, causing blood to drip from it. "Ares!" She screamed with rage. This time she rushed towards the rampaging orc. Ares one by one teachings rang through her mind.

{"When your magic awakened, mana would flow more naturally to you."}

As if it came naturally to her, something cold started to enveloped her feet. Making her movement faster. When she glanced towards her feet, she saw a dark fog enveloping her feet.

'So this is what it feels like to have magic.' But to Myrene's mistake, she got distracted with the new magic she had. When she looked in her front, she crossed both her arms with the incoming fist of Ares.

{"For a higher race compared to humans. The demons, with our naturally and stronger possessed magic, we could endure better than anyone.}

She could feel some of her arms bone getting cracked as she was sent flying again. Before she could completely fall down, she directed the control of the darkness to her body to cushion her fall. There was like a dark cloud formed when she landed.

However she had still no time to rest, Ares was heading towards her direction again.

{In a fight as long as the enemy is not death, never have a single moment of rest. That single stop might cause you greater damage or even your death.}

When she held her dagger, she felt a scrutinizing pain in her hands. 'Darn. The bones of my hands are completely broken.'

{Endure no matter the situation you are in. Remain calm and analyze everything.}

She kept dodging Ares' heavy blows.

'Dark magic. From the books and what Ares had told me, there was submagic that help one move swiftly and faster. What I'm using right now, are closely to Shadow Steps. But I won't be able to win if I dodge from time to time. And that was not the only magic I have.'

{Think what you could do and see to it that it would become your advantage.}

'Shadow... That could work.'

With one last resort, just like how she did with acquiring her level, she released her dark energy along with her wind magic. She overlapped the shadow from dark magic to hide the wind.

Her breath was getting heavier.

She controlled the wind with her mind to pick the dagger. Nothing happened first to the dagger.

{Attack and never give the enemy any opening.}

Myrene exerted more force and concentrated more wind in the dagger and it finally moved. The dagger floated in the air.

Myrene glanced at the incoming Ares. She concentrated more on the wind. With difficulty she raised her right hand in front of Ares. She leaped one last time and while suspended in the air, she concentrated on his head.

"Ares!" She screamed with the top of her lungs and closed her fist. The dagger flew with incredible speed towards Ares.

Twack!
