Draft 1

A rustle of wind across leaves, the creaking of wooden walls, the pattering of rain on the roof of an inn.  A small fox awoke and stood, stretching from its rest. its body then grew to eight feet and became partially humanoid. The creature, called Lucmar, was somehow already wearing clothes and made his way out of that nameless resting place.

Stepping down the attic ladder, Lucmar grumbled to himself. "I hate sleeping on wood flooring", He thought as he walked. His fur- covered leg bumped the sword that hung a blade from his waist without a sheath. It was curved and black with a twinkling akin to the night sky. "Good thing blood doesn't stain it, or it might be a subset instead."

His appearance matched that of a towering fox, yet as he walked through toward the door no one blinked at him. He walked in the kitchen and took some food, yet no one even glanced. Even when he slid between two men talking, completely breaking their view of each other, they didn't ever shift their eyes.

Lucmar left the inn and looked intently into the darkness. " there you are…the last one. Let's end this." Lucmar flashed forward, without a single witness, and made his way to seal the fate of his kind.

After an hour of traveling, Lucmar began to slow. Before him stood a decrepit fortess, crumbled and moss filled. Lucmar entered the courtyard and saw him. The only other one of his kind. He was short than Lucmar, standing at around seven feet. His fur was torn and gray.  "So, you've finally found me." the Last said," Lucmar the kind." Lucmar cringed at the title, "This is what must be done. We are the lowest of filth which should have never existed. The blood and tears of the young and old have soaking into our paws, just because we craved for suffering." At that Lucmar drew his sword and stepped forward, vanishing mid-step. He appeared behind the Last and split open his back, nearly severing his spine. In a panic, the Last threw himself away from Lucmar at inhuman speed. But he was too slow, because once again Lucmar appeared behind him and this time the blade passed completely from one side to the other. As the dying beady lay there, bisected, Lucmar leaned over his final and vowed "I will remain. Even a death a hundred times worse than this would be too pleasant for me . The last of the damned and a guardian for the ones we would have hurt, that will be my sentencing." As Marakon's body died, the last thing he saw was a single drop falling from Lucmar's eye as he turned away.

Lucmar entered a small town named Seren and began his hunt for a place to rest. It was dark and Following his nose, Lucmar came upon a tavern. The outside looked well kept and the air smell of wonderfully ham. He entered, then sat and listen while eating food stolen from the cooks. Two men sat with tankards in their hands, talking and downing their drinks. A little girl sat with her parents, and happily talked and laughed as the ate. Lucmar looked away. Her face was too much like another girl. After a while, Lucmar found his bed. A woman with her black hair in a large braid was talking to the innkeeper. "why is there only two bed rooms open!" She asked, upset. The beer bellied man responded "it's quite the nice room!" "fine, just take the money and give me the blasted key." Lucmar sat for a moment longer and listened to the conversations around him before he rose and followed the woman. When she opened the door to her room Lucmar changed into a small fox and slipped in by her leg and looked around. The man wasnt wrong, although he also was fully correct. The room was nice, but in a mediocre way. The room was small but the beds had clean looking sheets on them and there was even a closet for clothes. In the corner was a small tub filled with steaming water and as Lucmar curled up on the second bed, the woman bathed and prepared for bed. Lucmar remained facing the other direction in attempt to leave her some privacy. The woman's footfalls suddenly stopped and Lucmar turned toward her to see a strange sight. The woman, now dressed in a white night gown with her long hair hanging to her waist, was staring at the exact spot he was laying. Lucmar changed to his large form and looked on in curiosity as the woman moved over to her nightstand where her staff laid while staring at his bed. His concealment even made furniture seem untouched, so there was no way for her to see him. as she stared, her eyes were intent yet not quite looking at the same spot the whole time, as if she was unsure what she was trying to see. "Well then, this one is perceptive. Her gut must have told her to look here." As she moved over to inspect the bed,  Lucmar rolled over and began to fall asleep, knowing the her inspections would be fruitless. Even if someone had an odd feeling, they couldn't truly find him. He rolled over and shut his eyes. Just as he was falling asleep, the staff slammed into his head, as I'd to laugh at his assumption. In bewilderment, Lucmar looked up to see the woman. she stood on the other side of the bed with a face of utter terror despite the weapon in her hand. "But...how?" Both asked at the same time. "That's impossible!" Her expression suddenly became even more frightened, eyes growing as she took in his appearance."What in Aqua are you?" She swore, taking a step back. "Oh shade, you really can see me." Lucmar said, and with a disgruntal look, got up from the ground. Stepping toward the second impossibility that Lucmar had ever seen, he remembered the first. An image of a girl in a pink dress flashed through his mind. Lucmar had chosen to protect her. What a waste of time he was. If he had been stronger... his thoughts were cut short as the woman swung the staff again. In a flash Lucmar appeared behind her with his hand over her mouth to stop the shout that was already in her throat "I could kill you before you could but I do not wish to, so, if you can, keep quiet and then we can be a little more civil" She nodded and as Lucmar stepped away, the woman caught her breath. After taking a minute to collect herself, she looked at Lucmar and asked," Who or what are you?" For a moment Lucmar thought of telling her everything, protecting her for the rest of her life, like he fail to do last time. He shook his head and brush off his fantasy saying"who and what i am has no value to you or anyone else. Suddenly, I no longer wish to speak with you, goodbye." Lucmar turned and walked toward the door."I would only be a burden" Lucmar thought. He opened the door but suddenly a man ran through the entryway with a knife. His aura was not one of kindness.
