5 Unexpected incident during the Journey

"About 13 miles left, Alita. We're nearly there," Aiden said with a sigh of relief, his grip on the black leather-covered steering wheel had significantly decreased their bruising hold and his once white knuckles had relaxed back to its original- somewhat outlook. So far, maybe it was luck, but they had met nothing terrible from the storm throughout the journey. Other than constantly color-changing skies, barren lands and a dead lake they had passed, nothing had been too out of the blue than the usually expected countryside. However the clouds had gotten darker, they had been looming over the vehicle like a bad omen, stretching and starting from far behind the vehicle and reaching desperately towards the front, it had gained a substantial amount of darken - sickening colors as the trio drove up forward. The electric purple streak had yet to appear over them again, maybe it had - it was hard to tell, clouds as thick and dark as what a rotten cream cooked soup would look like, had prevented them from seeing anything as much as birds. Whatever was behind those thick clouds was impossible to dictate. The roads were getting more fogged, the clouds lowering themselves onto the gravel path as an airy stream of its powers floated between the tires of the car like a large snake. If they stood out the moving minivan, the unusual haze would rise up to their legs like a kiddie pool filled with water... covering Mila.

Aiden had raised his eyes to the rearview mirror, even though nothing had posed an evil threat so far, it made him anxious with worry about the possible scenarios that could take place. He had built a liking for the Johnsons, it was hard not to, they were a happy bunch, reckon a smile and some joy was needed in times like this. It did, however, worry Aiden to see their carefree outlook on what could possibly be the end of many lives, the Smiths would keep an eye out for them. It was hard to see now, the back of the car was coated in a waxy cuticle of condensing vapor but Aiden could roughly make out the outline of the Johnson boys, he was greeted by what seemed to be the silhouette of Jerry who had offered a simple polite wave. Darren had noticed the polite obligation of his father and had turned to give his own wave of excitement but with two hands and what seemed to be a large grin of happiness. Aiden offered his own smile but shook his head as he returned to the task at hand: Driving, who knew it would be such a tiresome task. Alita's eyes were glazed over, she had fallen asleep from exhaustion as her chest rose up and down rapidly, her lips placed gently on Mila's forehead. She was no longer seated with Aiden at the front, instead, she held Mila close to her chest at the back seat as both mother and daughter gave into the depths of tiresome evacuation. Mila's tiny pudgy fingers were wrapped around her mother's shoulders as her head was coined in the comfort of her mother's warm arms, a tiny bit of drool slipping out of her ruby lips as she fell into a deep slumber. The car was relatively silent now, other than the relentless noise of the static radio. Still no word, still no sound.

The road had gotten bumpier, the gravel breaking apart in a zigzag manner, it made driving in the fog a much harder chore, in normal circumstances, it would have proven to be a minimal task, but the lack of sight posed to be an additional burden. The road was fading into the pure land, overgrown tree roots fading in and out of the land like a dolphin in the water. The occasional clank and a bump were of the norm. As the bunch drove through the misty land, the cars shook from the left side then to the right, the imbalance in the road was difficult. Bang! The sound wrecked the plausible silence, as the car jumped upwards from a light impact... what seemed to sound like a loud croak of a frog was followed but Aiden could not be too sure. Aiden had prompted to stop but he was sure the car had hit another root or an abnormally large rock, whatever it was, it was hard to tell.

Darren Johnson, however, had his head stuck out the window, his hands perched on the trucks rolled down the window as his eyes glared back into the road bump their truck had just hit. An ear-piercing scream was lodged in the back of his throat, his eyes widening and all water leaving his mouth. The road was splattered in dark red blood, discarded a few meters from what seemed like a frog but the size of an adult cat. Darren's hands desperately clenched the window as bile rose up his throat, his vision getting blurry. He pushed himself back into the car as he shut the window, hands over his face as his back hit the worn-out seat.

However, in this split second, a shrilling cry filled the Smith car as Mila's sudden terrified voice overcame the once silent vehicle. She began to thrash in Alita's hold, her arms failing out as she began to sob endlessly. However, her eyes were sewn closed so Alita suspected it to be a nightmare as she began to shake Mila awake.

"Ahhhh! Daddy! Daddy where are you? My daddy will save me! Don't hurt me! Ahhh..." screamed Mila as she vigorously shook her head with tears falling out of her eyes like a waterfall. Hearing this, Alita now couldn't help but shake her daughter as her worry for her daughter rose as this did not seem like a normal dream. Her conflictual loud cries had now got the attention of Aiden and the family's task was shifted to waking Mila up as no matter how hard Mila was shaken she wouldn't open her eyes.

Suddenly "Ahhh, daddy...help...save...mommy...save me. Mila is getting hurt." screamed Mila as her voice peaked shaking the whole car as the walls of the car mirrored her scream.

"D-da-daddy is my hero... Daddy is my hero... H-H-He is m-my hero...argh" Mila's tone of voice changed as she now sounded weak, hurt and in pain. She continuously mumbled these words and as she did, her whole body dropped by a few degrees as her little dainty hand became cold to the touch like an ice sculpture refined through eras of solitary refinement.

A deathly silence followed after she uttered those words for a whole minute, returning the original atmosphere as if nothing had happened back to the car. Alita, with a face full of worry, reached out her hand about to shake her daughter. As her long slender hand got close to Mila, Aiden suddenly stated "Alita, don't touch her. Let her wake up on her own."

"But Aiden..."

"Trust me..." Aiden suddenly replied with a face of confidence.

"Ok," said Alita helplessly as she gazed upon her daughter's curled up body.
