6 Resurfaced

Jenny walked to her dorm that night with anxiety twisting in her stomach. She was worried about Sam. Jack seemed worried after she left too. She crashed onto her bed with a huff. There was still so much she needed to learn about if she was going to figure out her past. It was a daunting task, but she prayed she could do it. She picked up her green stylus that fell off her sword. She noticed a small crystal shape embedded into its edge. She stuffed it in her pocket, wanting to shut the world out.

She gazed over at the book she had received from Sam. According to it, people came back from the dead all the time. It didn't make sense to her. What factor decided who came back? was there someone in charge? Or was it all random? These questions swam circles in her brain like a fish in a bowl.

Jenny didn't believe she came from Astra. Sam said Gravity Magic was hard magic to master. The fact that she even got the thing to move at all was a sign that proved her point.

A clatter at her door made her head turn. A magazine was pushed through the bottom of the door. Jenny walked over to pick up the mail. The magazine had large bold letters that read, "Gil Weekly News". She noticed some small items of what it was about on the cover. But only one caught her eye.

One image had a picture of a lightning storm, with two silhouettes in the middle of it. Below had the captions, "Brave hero dies facing Shaun Electro."

That name again. It was stained in her brain. She cracked the magazine open to the page that covered it and began reading.

"Shaun Electro, the most infamous rebel leader of Gil and most powerful Lighting power, was spotted on August 18th, fighting some unseen hero. Viewers identified the individual as male Levitation or Sky Power. The two stayed in the air, only touching the ground once before lifting off again. Most disturbing of all was a pair of severed hands found at the landing site. We do not have clear confirmation of who's these were, but most believe it to be the unknown man."

Jenny's eyes widened. Shaun sounds ruthless to slice another person's hands-off. She shuttered at the thought. A knock on the door made her jump. She stood and calmly walked to open it. Max was standing on the other side his face full of worry.

"Jenny! Are you ok?!"

She nodded, "Yeah. Why?"

He grabbed her arm, "Come on! Your not safe here."

Jenny didn't have time to protest as she was dragged alongside Max, "What? What do you mean?!"

He ignored her question, "We can't alert anyone else. They might be a part of them."

"A part of who?"

"I'll explain in a second," Max led her to the elevator and pressed the button that went to ground level.

"Max," Jenny spoke up as the doors closed, "Explain to me."

Max looked at her for a second, "You really weren't faking that memory thing?!"

"Of course not!" Jenny exclaimed.

"That explains you not saying the code word," Max admitted, "Alright, keep up. I'll explain in the car."

"Car? Are we going somewhere?"

"Yes, we are going to the G.S.D," He paused, "Wait, you don't remember. Ok, the G.S.D is the Gil Secret Defence. We need you back there before Shaun's rebels find you."

"What?!" Jenny exclaimed, "Why are they trying to find me?"

"Because you have valuable information in your head, and they want to stop you from revealing it."

"B-but I have no memory of anything past a few days ago!"

"Your wrong," Max hissed, "There is still memory in there, and there is a way to get it back into the light."

"Really?"

"YES! But not now! Just, act natural," Max said as they reached the bottom floor. The door opened, the lobby full of people.

Sam and Jack were there too. 'Are they a part of the rebellion?' Jenny thought.

Max stepped out of the metal box first, Jenny following him. All worry from his face vanished in an instant. He walked calmly through the crowd, only speaking to wave to a friend. Jenny saw a flash of movement. She turned to see Sam and Jack making their way towards her.

Her heart rate quickened. Max seemed to sense it but did nothing. The two of them walked up to Jenny, "Hey Jenny. Where are you going?"

"Oh," Jenny paused to stop her voice from shaking, "I was... you see-

"We're going out for dinner," Max replied, "there is this sick diner downtown I promised I'd take her to."

"Cool! Well, we'd hate to throw off your plans," Sam said. "I just wanted to ask you if we could talk to you later tonight? We wanted to ask you some questions."

Jenny could feel her heart pounding. Terror was making her hands

"Sorry Sam," Max put his arm around Jenny and began to lead her away, "We need to go."

"But Max-

A sudden boom from the elevator made them all freeze in their tracks. The elevator was surrounded by smoke. Someone screamed that the elevator was on fire. Jenny felt Max grab her hand and pull her away. Sam snapped her head over at Jenny, "WAIT! JENNY!"

Jenny didn't hear her after that. The elevator opened and out stepped three people in masks that covered their mouths. From their hairstyles, there were two boys and a girl. They split from their group into the surrounding crowd. Jenny's heart quickened. She could feel a faint glow of energy from them. A glow of light from their fingernails told her their powers.

Ice, Fire, and Cresent.

Max pulled her out the front door to the parking lot, "Hurry. They'll notice you've left the building soon enough."

Jenny followed behind Max, her thoughts began to wander. Max knew about here before the N.A.I.L academy. She remembered how Max knew her name when they first met, without Jenny telling him. For some reason, the thought didn't scare her.

They were walking to a grey Honda when a voice called out to them, "Hey! Stop!"

Jenny recognized the voices. Sam and Jack. They WERE after her this whole time! Max broke into a sprint that Jenny managed to keep up. They got about 7 feet away from the car when a purple material formed in front of them. They skidded to a halt. It was hard and slightly transparent, making the slightly visible honda almost feel like a tease. Max turned to Sam and Jack, who stopped just a few yards away.

"Stay back, rebels!" Max hissed, two khopesh's formed in his hands, "Or you'll wish you were dead."

"Wow! Max, chill!" Jack held up his hands, "We are not part of the rebellion. We just saw you guys running and we wanted to know what's going on?"

"Your not?"Jenny did a silent sigh.

"No," Sam glared at Jenny, "But I still have questions for you, Mrs. Memory Loss! Explain why on the 22 of March, your face was in a picture in the Rebels camp? Or why you were there at the June capitol attack two years ago. And-

"Enough!" Max stepped between them, "These matters are far beyond your understanding."

"Then help me understand why that thing," Sam pointed at Jenny, "Has quite a history with the revolution?!"

"If you'd just let me-" Max started when his car exploded behind him.

Jenny was thrown to the side, where she crashed into Sam. When the world came back into focus, Jenny spotted the three people in masks walking towards her. Jenny scrambled to her feet as they grew closer. The girl was walking in the middle, a grin hiding under the mask, "Well, finally we meet again. I was wondering when you'd stop hiding like this. Very unlike you, Jenny Micha."

"Who are you?!" Jenny took a step back.

"Oh come on," the boy on the right laughed, "Don't tell me you forgot about us."

Jenny laughed a bit, "Well, it's a funny story actually. Care to hear it?"

"Maybe later. But for now," the girl pulled out two fans. They seemed to be made of metal, almost like blades. "I think it's time for a reunion." She pulled her mask down to reveal her face. Her eyes were amber, almost like gold. Her hair was dark as coal, with a face that seemed too flawless for reality. The face didn't match a name in her head, but her heart quickened regardless.

"My name is Tina Pérez. It's great to see you again."
