1 First Breath

"Abby... now is not the time." A voice said, "Now, fetch some shells."

Jenny rolled over on her side. Pain surged through her body but she held in the tears.

"Miss? Are you awake? If you can hear me, you probably feel the pain too. I apologize for that. We're working on that."

Jenny opened her eyes to see a person standing over her. She had a black coat on and weird goggles with many lenses. Another girl was behind her. She looked a lot younger than her. The older one placed her hand on Jenny's shoulder. The pain seemed to drain from her arm. She looked up at the doctor, "What… was that?"

"Oh, that. That's my magic." They replied, "Your probably a new one, which makes more since then 'you fell from the sky." She looked over at the younger one, who was holding a bowl full of powder. "

"Why does that make more sense?" Jenny asked, "Did I fall from the sky?"

"Yes, you did. Right after the storm passed." The younger one piped in.

The doctor glared at her, "Abby, enough of that." Abby looked away with a scowl.

"A-Abb-y? Is that your name?" Jenny asked.

Abby nodded, "Yeah. Haven't you heard of me before? I am after all-"

"Abby," The doctor cut her off, "Why are you chatting? Go make the mixture." Abby nodded and scuttled away. The doctor grabbed a clipboard and looked back at Jenny, "So what's your name?"

"Jenny."

"Ok," The doctor wrote it down, "And what power did you get assigned to in Astra?"

"A-Astra?" Jenny said in confusion.

The doctor nodded, "Yeah. You know the place you were previously."

Jenny shook her head, "Doesn't ring a bell."

The doctor looked up from her clipboard, "Really? You must remember something." Jenny wracked her brain for anything else.

"Um… E-Electro and um… Heartbeat."

"And nothing else? Maybe something to help explain these wounds you have? Because these look like they're caused from a sword, not falling."

Jenny shook her head, "I-I'm sorry."

"Don't be," The doctor stood up as Abby walked back in. She took the mixture from her and handed it to Jenny, "Drink. It'll clear any small things I've missed." The doctor walked out of the room leaving Abby alone with Jenny.

"Did you actually see me fall?" Jenny asked.

Abby nodded, "You were already subconscious from what I saw. And around your waist," She walked over to a box, "was this." Abby pulled out a long sword. On the end of the handle was a small green thing hanging from a green string. Bloodstains littered the edge where it had cut.

Jenny looked up at her, "Did that cut me perhaps?"

"No. From what the lab learned this is the blood of a male." Abby put it back into the box, "They were honestly a bit scared of what you might have been doing with it." Jenny looked at her hand. It was full of scratches that were starting to fade away.

"However," Abby looked at it, "It's a really badly designed sword."

"What makes you say that?" Jenny asked out of curiosity.

"Well it bends too much, almost like a stiff ribbon," Abby said as she bent it for Jenny to see, "Not the best in combat, but whatever. It's a tad dull and this… thing on the handle can get caught easily." She held the thing up and the string broke off the sword.

"Woops." Abby handed the green thing to Jenny, "Sorry bought that."

Jenny shrugged, "It's ok. I don't even remember what this is." Jenny waved it around and a thing glowing string came out. "Wow." She did it again and more string came out. "I'm keeping this." Jenny laughed.

"Maybe you were a ribbon dancer?" Abby joked.

"Maybe." Jenny looked down at the string. She wrapped the string around it.

"Abby?" The doctor came in and saw Abby holding the sword, "ABBY! Put that down this instant!"

Abby placed it back into the box, "I thought it might trigger a memory. S-sorry D.b."

The doctor looked at Jenny, "Did you remember anything from it?"

"No, I didn't." Jenny said, " But it was worth a try though, right?"

The doctor paused, "I… guess so." She turned to Abby, "Please ask next time. "Abby nodded. The doctor turned to Jenny, "I ordered a bus for you. It'll take you to the N.A.I.L Academy. It helps newbies with their power. There you can seek further help with your memory problem."

Jenny nodded, "Yeah. Ok. Do I-"

"You'll be given your sword eventually." The doctor replied, "Not sure when. It's not my place to say." She began walking out of the room, "Oh and you can keep that green ribbon thing." Abby waved and picked up the box and followed the doctor out of the room.
