35 3.2 Zhang Chi

When the sun came up, Su Lin arose from his slumber and stretched out his limbs. He shook the snow off his fur and continued on his way out of the forest.

"System, tell me more about the world I'm in." Su Lin ordered.

"Yes Host. You are in the Gamma dimension which is split up into three planes. The lowest plane is Dixia, the middle is Zhongjian, and the higher plane is called Nirvana. Right now you are in the Nirvana plane. Within the Nirvana plane, there are four main powers. The Hong, the Chen, the Odessa, and the Royal Family." System explained.

"I see, then do I belong to any of these powers?" Su Lin asked.

"No Host, you do not." System said.

"Then where exactly did I come from?" Su Lin asked.

"I'm sorry Host, I can only say that you came from a family in the highest plane." System said apologetically.

"The highest plane? I thought you said that there are only three planes." Su Lin asked.

"That is what all people of the plane thinks Host." System said.

"Okay fine. Then can you give me a detailed explanation on exactly where I am?" Su Lin asked.

"You are in the Crystal Forest which is within the Frost Abyss. It is the coldest place on this plane. You generally can't set foot in here without freezing to death but some magical beasts have adapted to this place. Because of your physic and bloodline, you are able to live here just fine Host." System said.

Su Lin nodded his head as he took all the information in.

"You're about to reach the outskirts of the forest Host." System said.

"Okay." Su Lin said. "System, before you said th-"

"Oh look what we have here, the little fox is leaving." A clear, and deep voice rang all around Su Lin.

Su Lin turned around and came face to face with a huge, silver wolf. Its powerful body was taunt, like it could pounce on anything at any moment. Sharp, white teeth were lined in its mouth which was pulled out and expressed a threatening expression. It's light-blue eyes were squinted because of the sun light reflecting off the snow. A pair of wings were folded on both sides of his body and it's ears were pointed straight up to the sky.

Su Lin backed away slowly, 'system, who is this?'

"Host, this is Gray. He was the one taking care of you all this time." System said.

'Well that makes sense. How could a newborn fox survive by himself, but why did Gray help me and what exactly is he?' Su Lin asked.

"Gray is a Snow wolf and as to why he's helping you, I'm not allowed to say." System replied.

Su Lin sighed at his lack of information. All his questions just created more questions so he just gave up. He instead, refocused his attention on the matter at hand.

"Gray," Su Lin called out to the wolf in a sweet voice.

"That's OCC Host." System warned.

'What!,' Su Lin's eyes widened, 'Why?'

'The original bodies owner would never use that tone with anyone, not even the people close to him.' System said.

"And why is that?" Su Lin asked curiously.

"The original owner had to fight for his life in the forest ever since he could remember and that warped his personality to be on the colder side even though he's still young. Gray didn't help him much unless his life was hanging by a thread." System explained.

'What a nice caretaker,' Su Lin grumbled, 'At least I don't have to act nice to people.'

'WAIT, SYSTEM!' Su Lin shouted in his head with his eyes lighting up with realization.

"Yes Host?" System inquired.

'Doesn't this mean I can be considered a cold beauty.' Su Lin said excitedly, 'I've always wanted to try being one.'

"Host..."

"Little fox are you listening?" A voice interrupted Su Lin's thoughts. He snapped back into reality and gaped at the wolf.

"No." Su Lin said as he adopted a stone face. 'I really should get reward for this acting' Su Lin thought to himself full of pride.

Gray sighed in helplessness at the Su Lin, "I said why do you want to leave?" He repeated.

Su Lin stayed quiet for a moment before he responded, "I want to find my family."

A light flashed in Gray's eyes before it disappeared but Su Lin noticed.

Gray sighed, "I can't keep this from you."

"Keep what from me?" Su Lin said coldly.

Instead of responding, Gray found a clear patch of snow and sat down. Su Lin followed him and sat down in front of him.

"Let me start from the beginning." Gray said as he settled down.

Su Lin perked his ears and listened carefully.

"There is a plane called the celestial plane and, like this Nirvana plane, it is divided up into five main sections. You, little fox, is part of the Bai family who were in control of the coldest region in the celestial plane. The Bai family was blessed with four sons with you being the youngest son of the family." Gray narrated.

"On the night of your birth, the Bai family was attacked. I don't know who it was but I know that they were powerful enough to totally decimate the entire family. Your eldest brother and your father died in battle. I do not know the fate of your other two brothers. Your mother entrusted you to me when she saw that there was nothing anybody could do to save the family and went off to join in the battle" Gray paused to catch his breath.

Su Lin took all this information in with his eyes wide with shock. Who knew he has such a illustrious background.

"How did you get here then?" Su Lin asked.

"I used a the last of my power to transport both of us out of the plane and into this one." Gray said with a sigh of sadness. Grief could be seen in his eyes as he recounted the past tragedy.

Su Lin stayed quiet until he thought of an important question.

"Gray, do I have a name?" Su Lin asked.

Gray looked at him with a blank look, "Yes, your mother named you before she gave you to me."

Su Lin looked at him with anticipation.

Gray's mood lightened up when he saw a rare look of emotion on Su Lin's face.

"Your mother named you Bai Liang." Gray said.

"Bai Liang." Su Lin repeated to himself.

"Gray, do you want me to take revenge?" Su Lin asked looking deep into Gray's eyes.

"Yes and no," Gray responded, "Yes because I want to avenge Bai Family's death and No because you are nowhere near strong enough to even contend with the enemy."

Su Lin looked at Gray with a face full of resolution, "Gray, I want to do it."

"You-"

"I know I'm not strong enough," Su Lin cut him off, "But I will get the strength to kill them." He said with utter confidence.

Gray looked at the little fox who had fire in his eyes and smiled. "Fine, then let's go." He said as he got up.

Su Lin also got up and followed Gray as they left the forest with a newfound goal.
