1 Prologue-The Precedent

PROLOGUE- THE PRECEDENT

A bald middle aged man stood on an elevated platform in the middle of a brightly lit room. The crown shaped badge on the chest of his lab coat must have meant a lot since the occasional gazes it attracted from the other white lab coated people in the room were filled with immense reverence.

He seemed not to have noticed their fawning looks however as his attention was completely focused on the giant screen in front of him. On this screen were segregated windows that displayed every inch of the room he was in, alongside several seemingly incomprehensible scans and numbers

His focus was on a particular window that displayed the pod in the middle of the room with several tubes connected to it. Two lab coated people stood right beside it, their eyes on the three monitors connected to the pod. One closely observed the vitals of the subject while the other lab coated person patiently waited for instructions from the man above him to commence a test that would be etched in history. He didn't have to wait long though, because the instruction immediately came down

"Begin the neural scan."

He could feel his palms sweat as he run the command on the computer, his heart throbbed wildly but his brain remained steady, his eyes never leaving a single character on the screen. He knew what was at stake, and what thee was to gain. So amidst his raging nerves, be persevered and with that he brilliantly performed his task. A detailed map of the test subject's brain structure had been created and after transferring it his job was done. "Whew..."

The bald middle aged man nodded slightly, but he refrained from giving a compliment. There was too much at stake. Turning his attention to the other white lab coated people standing beside a complex computer system that took nearly a quarter of the room, he issued another order.

"Run the simulation!"

He watched as this powerful quantum computer, unique to its kind gradually built a virtual simulation designed to mimic the test subject's brain behavior as closely as possible. The process was in no way a short one, but nobody dared to move an inch. They all waited, with bated breaths as the computer took its sweet time.

PING!

The successful ping of the computer jolted them out of their paranormal state. Was the process was successful? Yes. Were they excited? Yes, but the fear of ruining it all kept them mute and they reigned in their joyous souls.

Now came the last part of the test and the easiest among the processes. A mere transfer of the simulated consciousness into a robot. What could possibly go wrong?

Beep! Alert! Alert!

There they all stood, dumbfounded, as the jinx hilariously sprang at this moment.

A malfunctioning quantum system.

A redirected signal.

Their entire work came crushing down. They tuned their ears up, to the man above, desperately waiting for a way to salvage the situation. The person in question was staring wide eyed at the giant screen. He yelled out an order, excitement written all over his face. It wasn't one to help salvage the situation.

"LOCK UNTO THAT SIGNAL!!!" He screamed.
