39 Chapter 39

"Since you're new here and don't have money, you can live here temporarily until you find a place of your own." Kind said

We had walked a few miles away from where the town was. Along the way, Kind had been explaining to me what my job would be once we start tomorrow. I was actually glad about running (literally) into these two. I wouldn't have known where to begin my new life here. But now I have a place to live (temporarily) and a job.

"Just temporarily! And not for long either!" Vivante exclaimed

She had been complaining for most of the trip but eventually gave up trying to convince Kind to rethink her decision. Not that she was onboard with this whole idea.

We came up to a small house surrounded by crops in the front and tall trees in the back. It looked like the beginning of a small farm but not enough to be called one. It was a beautiful house that looked like it was being well taken care of.

It still surprises me, now in the present time, just how much has changed. The house looked like it was about to fall over and the garden was filled with overgrown weeds. The trees that were once taken care of and maintained now looked like a creepy forest behind the house. It makes me wonder if I had never stepped foot, would things have stayed the same? Was any of it worth it? I honestly don't think so.

Time passed and I had been working in the fields for almost two full years now. I would be lying if I said that I didn't see Vivante in a new light as the years went on.

We would constantly bicker with each other over small things but when it really counted, I knew Vivante would always have my back. Living with Vivante and Kind in our own small peaceful world was amazing. The best two years in my entire life but I wanted more with Vivante. So the day came when I decided to ask her out.

"Hey, Vivante?" I called out to her.

She was in the garden taking care of the roses that I had planted. I had originally planned to ask her out before but wimped out at the last second and planted the Rose I had gotten her. Who knew it would actually grow into an entire Rose bush? The two sisters were originally annoyed with the bush but eventually grew to love it.

She turned around and her blond hair shined under the bright sun. She smiled warmly at me as she stood and dusted herself off.

"Yeah?" She asked

"I-umm…I just…" I stumbled

She raised an eyebrow but waited for me.

"Willyougooutwithme?" I rushed.

Like a bandaid. That's my motto.

Her mouth hung open and her eyes widened. She gripped the gardening scissors and accidentally sliced off the head of a bright red rose. She gasped and looked down. She stared at the rose's head before looking back up at me.

I thought she would yell at me but instead, she ran towards me and hugged me.

"Okay. Let's see where this goes" she said

I laughed and hugged her back.

"Don't make it seem as if this will end badly" I laughed

We dated for about three years before getting married and about one year later, Vivante had told me she was pregnant.

Unfortunately, this peace was cut short when the farm was invaded by robbers. The garden was torn apart, the fruits and vegetables were stolen. We had just gotten home from selling at the market when we came across the robbers starting to leave. Ignoring Vivante's and Kind's protests, I ran after the robbers. I tried to grab the bags with the stolen fruits and vegetables when I heard screams from behind me. I looked back and saw Kind pinned to the ground with a man atop of her and another who held a knife against Vivante's neck.

Not thinking of the consequences, I brought out my scythe and swung against the people trying to beat me. I slashed their bodies as I ran towards the girls. The robbers had backed away from me as I charged at them, swinging the scythe. A few swung at me with axes but, dodging their attacks, I managed to swing at their stomachs. Most had scattered away and I fended off the rest.

I was breathing heavily as I looked around for more. I felt a hand on my shoulder and I started to swing at the person but I heard Kind yell "It's Vivante!"

I stopped short of her neck and I saw her bloodied face. My eyes widened.

"Who…?"

She shook her head and said "You somehow managed to get me dirty even though I was far away"

I winced as I realized how messy things had gotten.

"You also managed to save me from so far" she smiled and raised her lips against mine.

"Disgoosting!" Kind yelled

I flipped her off as I kissed my wife.

Wait…

I backed off and asked "Did you know? About the scythe?"

"Yep. I saw you knock off the apples from the trees with the scythe. It kinda surprised me" She said

"How long did you know?" I asked

She thought about it "I guess a few months after you had begun to live here. But I told Kind a few months before the wedding"

I scratched my head. "Huh…And you weren't scared?"

She shook her head "Oh yes. I was scared shitless. I almost turned you down because of that."

I opened my mouth but she interrupted.

"But I'm glad that I took a chance and said yes. These last few years were the happiest of my life." She said

I bent down towards her.

"Still disgoosting!" Kind yelled
