38 Chapter 38

<Terre: seven years ago. Age: twenty one>

"Get outta here!"

"Go back to hell! Where you came from!"

"If you come back here, I'll kill ya myself!"

The townspeople threw their torches at me, setting my clothes on fire. They ran after me as they threatened m and cursed me. I tried putting the flames out while running from the town of Sud going who knows where.

In all of the twenty one years that I have been alive, I have never been caught as the scythe holder until yesterday.

A friend that I held dearly to me found out about my black dyed hair. He ran towards the townspeople faster than I could have ever imagined. I never would have thought that he would backstab me like this. Which is why I was so careless around him and ultimately ended up in flames. Literally.

I ran through the woods, not knowing where I was or whether I would find any other people ever again. That's okay though. I'm not sure I wanted to see people at the moment anyways.

I knew that the town wasn't chasing me anymore. They actually stopped right after I entered the woods. But I knew that if I stopped right here, I would feel the burden of losing my home and the betrayal of my friend. So I kept running until the world spun and clouded into pitch black. I had passed out from exhaustion.

When I woke up, I was covered in something heavy. I started panicking before I heard a man.

"Stop moving around. You'll only tire yourself faster."

I looked around for the voice and found a tall man sitting next to a fire. He turned a piece of meat around on the fire.

"The food is almost done. You should stop laying around and come here" he said

"Well…you see…I'm stuck, dumbass!" I yelled "Let me go!"

He turned back "Oh. Did I tuck you in too tight?"

"Tuck me in?! I'm a full grown man!" I yelled

He unraveled the blankets and I was set free. He sat me down next to him and handed me a piece of meat.

"Why are you out here?" I asked the man

He shrugged "Why not?"

I looked back at the fire.

We didn't say anything for a while before he spoke again.

"Are you trying to get to the next town?"

I looked up at him in surprise. "The next town? There are other towns?!"

He looked down at me with a raised eyebrow.

"You don't know? I thought that traveling between towns was popular nowadays" he said

"Umm…I don't keep up with the trends" I said nervously. I actually try to stay away from people. The only other person that I actually got close with backstabbed me. Never doing that again…

"Well. If you'd like, I can help you get on the main road if you'd like. Although, you will need to show identification…" the man explained

I looked down and said "I don't have an I.D."

"That's going to be an issue…" he started "…if we were going in through the main road"

I looked up at the guy. He is pretty big with a full sized beard and mustache covering most of his face. But even though I could only see half his face, I could tell he was smirking.

"Thanks old man!" I said

His eyes hardened and said "I'm only thirty-five!"

I snickered "Okay…old man"

"Want me to tuck you back in?" He asked as he held a blanket up.

Alright. That's going to far!

We eventually made it to the town of Retch. Well…only the outskirts of it. The further we got to the town, the more houses until the man eventually stopped and turned towards me.

"This is as far as I'll go. I'm sure that you'll find your way from here" he said

I looked up at him. He was looking around with a worried look on his face.

"You alright old man?" I asked him

"Yeah…kind of. I'll be fine" he said, still looking around nonstop.

He eventually looked back down at me and said "You might not understand this now, but just know that everything has a reason behind it. There are no coincidences because it's all planned." Then turned and walked back to the woods.

I wanted to ask him what he meant but a crowd of people walked by as I tried running towards him. By the time they moved, he was already gone.

I sighed and turned back to the town. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and took my first step towards the future. Hopefully, this time, it won't end up in flames.

I should have opened my eyes at that moment. I should have moved before entering the biggest mistake of my life. I should have never entered that town. I keep thinking of what I should have done now in present time but at that moment, all I could think was…

"Motherfucker!"

I slammed into a giant cart filled with fruits and fell along with the fruits. The people didn't stop moving around and stepped all over it, not even looking back.

A woman with light blond hair and dark eyes stood behind the cart. She was easily the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. That thought didn't last long though. She didn't bother to try and save the food. Instead, she glared at me with fire in her eyes. She stomped right towards me and stood in front of me looking down on me.

"What kind of idiot closes their eyes while walking?!" She yelled down at me

I stood and yelled back "Why couldn't YOU look where you're going?!"

"I was! You ran in front of me!" She yelled back

"I didn't run!" I yelled back "I walked"

We kept bantering back and forth before a girl about fifteen spoke up behind the woman. She had black hair with blue eyes. A total opposite of the woman.

"Why don't you just pay us back for the fruits?"

"I can't. Don't have any money" I replied

She shrugged, "Then work it off"

"I need to find a job first which is hard since…" I stopped before telling them that I had no I.D.

She rolled her eyes, "I meant, work for us."

The woman whipped her head over the girl.

"What?! We're fine on our own. He'll just get in our way!"

Woah…She looks mad…"I'll do it!" I said

"What?!" The woman yelled at me

The girl nodded "You can help us in the gardens. Do a good job"

"What?!" The woman yelled at the girl

"I will!" I promised

"What?!"

"My names Terra. What's yours?" I asked the girl

"My name's Kind and this is…" she held her hand out to the woman.

The woman huffed and looked away but replied "My names Vivante"
