Another Day Without Trouble?

<Saki POV>

After we had returned from Lyra's house, not much had happened. We got settled into my room and Lyra unpacked everything she brought with her. My room began to get crowded as she had also somehow fitted some furniture into the bottomless bag.

I didn't mind, but it made me think since we have all this money it might be worth getting a bigger house. I'll have to talk it over with my Mother, but it would be nice to get out of this house that is on the verge of turning into a shack.

I will have to wait till after school tomorrow since she has gone to bed. Speaking of beds, Lyra had also made the executive decision to bring hers and I am so glad she did. It was so comfortable, I felt like I was passing out right as my body hit the mattress.

Plus the warmth from snuggling with Lyra was a combination that I wished never went away.

However, the cruel reality of the next day came and was time for the last day of school this week. It would also be one of the worst days in my previous attempt as April kidnapped me. Luckily Lyra isn't suspended this time and overall hasn't been the subject of much bullying.

I don't think it ever will fully go away since it seems like such a hard-coded behaviour to hate peasants.

Besides that, there wasn't much going on in the morning. Lyra assimilated pretty smoothly and it felt like she had been living here for months already. For once I was looking forward to going to the academy, but that quickly shifted when walking approaching the school gates I spotted Raja in the distance.

Instinctively I hid behind Lyra as the flashes of that night appeared in my head. I also couldn't help but constantly shake, which made Lyra very worried about my sudden behaviour change.

"Saki? What's wrong?" She turned around and quickly held me tight while looking for what triggered me.

"S-sorry, I saw… R-raja." I hesitated if I should say his name since I technically hadn't met him, but I didn't want to lie that I was scared of him. He was the cause of Lyra's death and if she is made aware early on he is a threat the better.

As soon as I spoke his name, Lyra locked onto him and she held onto me tighter.

"What has he done?" Her voice was stern as Raja had the reputation already of being an asshole. He even had a cat boy student in a headlock, dragging him along.

"He hasn't done anything yet, but he is the last person I want to encounter." A part of me wanted to confess what Raja had done to Lyra, but as it stood he was too strong.

"I don't blame you, but are you sure? Your entire body is shaking." I was getting backed into a corner about why I was so terrified.

"Please don't get angry, but he did threaten me a while ago that I'd be his next prey. He hasn't done anything since, so I don't think he has his eyes on me." I couldn't come up with a valid excuse so I decided to admit something he did in the previous attempt and lay it off like he did it way before school even started.

I visibly saw the animosity in Lyra's eyes and holding herself back. I didn't quite give her enough reason to retaliate, but it was enough to keep an eye on him.

"If you say so, but if he does anything, I want to know immediately." Lyra patted the back of my head, trying to comfort me, which worked to settle down the nerves.

"Of course, b-but um, we should stop before more people see us like this." It was extremely embarrassing to hug like this in public and I would rather avoid the insults.

"Fine, but we are holding hands." Lyra didn't want to let go, so she compromised by just holding hands. So with that out of the way, we entered the academy walking at a relatively fast pace to avoid Raja. However, as we got closer, I was able to see who the cat boy was.

He had light blue hair and, for lack of better words, a bit of a twink. It reminded me of Rev, who dyed his hair blue often… Wait, is that Rev? As we passed, I got a glimpse of his face, and it was. Rev was at this academy and was getting harassed by Raja.

"Rev?" I muttered under my breath, which Lyra tilted her head at, but she didn't bother to ask what I said.

'I need to help him... I don't, I can.' I wanted to reach out a hand, but just the thought of confronting Raja was enough to instantly write off that idea.

'Just hang in there, Rev, maybe once I can use magic properly, I can free you.'

<Lyra POV>

'Did she just say Rev?' I glanced over to the guy she was looking at and indeed it was. I wasn't close to him in my previous life, but he was best friends with Saki. The question was, How does Saki know him already?

I hadn't noticed it, but thinking back, Saki has acted like we've known each other for ages. I never really spoke about myself yet everything seemed to click. It could be my imagination, but perhaps Saki was also transported here like me.

'I'll need to test a few things.' I kind of hoped Saki was transported since it has been a year since I've been able to talk about anything from my old world. It would also be nice to know, as I had a hard time adjusting to this world.

'What if Rev is in the same situation as me? It might be worth helping him get away from Raja, but I don't want to put Saki in danger.' I would rather avoid confronting him since he is a year above me and has a lot more experience in magic.

'I swear I'll murder that bastard one day.'

The day proceeded as normal, but during lunch, I was going to test Saki to see if she recognised anything from my old world until yelling suddenly came from below.

At first, we thought it was at us, but we peaked over the side. There isn't anything down there besides bushes and an overgrown garden, but we didn't expect to see Raja again. I instantly saw Saki pull back away from the ledge so that only her eyes and ears were peeking over.

"Did you follow up on our chat last night?!" Raja had dragged Rev all the way here about something?

'This isn't good.' If Rev has gotten involved with Raja, then there might not be an easy way to help Rev.

"I-I tried, but I was ignored. As I said, the Owlvil family cancelled the hit and refused to compensate." Rev braced himself, knowing what he said would anger Raja.

Upon hearing my last name, Saki looked at me as if she had seen a ghost.

"For fuck sake. You know what how about I make you the target just for fun?" A sinister smile appeared on Raja as well as flickers of flames on his knuckles.

"P-please no, I tried everything I could do to help." Rev frantically backed away, but he hit the wall of the building.

'Shit! Should I intervene?' It was about to get ugly and I wanted to help Rev, but there was so much going on behind the scenes that I didn't know if it was a good idea. Especially since Raja mentioned my family name and a hit? What if going down there will make it worse?

'For the safety of Saki and myself, we should let it happen.' It hurt to make up my mind, but I wasn't going to sacrifice what I had for Rev. Plus, once Raja leaves, we can swoop in and get him to the nurse.

"Saki, let's not watch and wait for Raja to leave." I whispered into Saki's ear and pulled her in close.

10 minutes go by and the sound of Rev getting beaten up stops. Raja walked away, allowing us to go down without him seeing us.

Floating to the ground, I looked at Rev, who had burn marks all over his body. He was half alive and if he wasn't taken to a healer, I doubt he would live.

"Don't worry Rev, I'll take you to the ward." I lifted Rev off the ground and surprisingly, he was lighter than Saki. Going back to Saki, I helped her get back inside and we headed for the nurse.

"Should we tell them what happened?" Saki looked very anxious since we saw everything that happened and since it was Raja, it was hard to know if revealing the truth was a good idea.

"I think we need to wait for Rev to wake up." It was too early to decide and right now Rev's safety is all that matters right now.
