The Start

Chazz put his hands together in that all too familiar way. He intended to reject my idea. Even though I half heartedly threw together my plan, I knew this content could measure up to his standards. I just needed him to hear me out.

"I'd like to create ten minute read about different responses on different dating sights. I'm seeking to show how girls typically respond to thirst messages. It would appeal to both male and female viewers. Girls want to laugh at different ways I respond and men will see more pick up lines they can use." I felt the whole room lean in as if tear apart my idea. I pushed my glasses up uncomfortably while they stared at me. The gears in Chazz's mind appeared to be working.

"Kayla," he paused looking over to Candy, "I like the idea, I want you to have your photos done by today. You and I will go over your account details this afternoon. I want you to get with Amal and Jessa for photos." Candy seemed pleased with his decision. Since the meeting was wrapping up she exited quietly. So much for any real evaluation. Others began leaving to start their projects while I waited for my impending meeting with the office dictator.

When I suggested the idea I really didn't mean for me to be the face of the account. I had originally planned to catfish the guys with someone much prettier.

"Kayla, lets go over those details now." He said ushering me to to his office down the hall. I dreaded that room. There were too many stories about it from the girls in the office. Luckily I didn't appeal to any man in this office. We entered his office and he sat down in his lame high back office chair. He had it bought in when he started this job. I heard it was in his contract to have some custom made chair though I doubt it's true. He just wanted to appear as though he had power over those around him. I sold awkward near the open door. Thankful that he'd left it open. I wanted to be quick so I could get out of there.

"Uh, I hadn't planned for the account to be mine, sir." I really didn't want the one dating app I had downloaded. I had an assignment a few weeks ago about the most popular dating sight. Binder had a huge trend about one of its founders having an in-use profile. A group of creators were tasked to go on and see if we could match with him. None of us did though.

"Let me out it this way, you'll do it my way or you and I will have a discussion on your contract with Feedhub," he waited for my answer but I meekly sat there, "Okay great. We are gonna have Jessa give you a makeover. I want your description to be two words. Looking for dot dot dot. That's it. The rest is up to you now go." I hurried out. I needed to find Jamal and Jessa to get this over with. Knowing those to they'd be in the kitchen for their mid morning snack. They are both huge foodies. I rounded the corner passing the conference room and headed into the kitchen on the other side.

"Yo I was shook this morning. Did you see Tayah? She really thinks that outfit is a look too. Hand me that salsa." Jessa sat next to Jamal eating breakfast tacos. Grease and meat permeated the air. Every time I interacted with her I felt jealous of her confidence. She wore what she want how she wanted. A few years ago she shaved her head for a video and has had it ever since. Usually she has fun colors or designs in her hair but lately she's rocked a bleached look. I love how it looks either her cinnamon colored skin.

"Kayla, I heard you've been assigned to us today. I'm excited to get you outta those clothes. Though you look way better than Tayah." He said on a feminine voice. He was a taller man with short black hair and a bedazzled nose ring. He also exuded all the confidence. The two had been friends for quite a while and they always did projects together. I wanted to be in their friends group but never felt confident enough to jump in. Usually I just did my work and left. I'd probably be okay in their hands.

"I am all yours. Jessa I'll let you make me over however you want. Just don't shave my head," we laughed together, "I gotta have the photos by five so we better get started." They looked at each other with food in their hands. Simultaneously the shoved the remainder in their mouths as if it was a competition. It was beautiful.

"Let's go," Jamal said flavorfully, his mouth still a full. Jessa followed suit and we traveled down in the elevator to the film and photography department. As the elevators opened the bustle of people and bright lights swarmed the office. There were several sound proof rooms and photographers took any open space to put a back drop. Jamal led me to his station while Jessa went back it a hidden area. I guessed she would retrieve the things she need for my make over. Truthfully I was a bit nervous for the results. Would I even look any different? I wasn't all that pretty to begin with. Especially with my glasses and dark brown eyes. I felt that they always darkened my face with unflattering shadows. I hope Jessa can work miracles.
