The first story

Princess Dai Linnuo's special story.

Sometimes I wonder to myself if that was a chance encounter by fate.

It was strange in that sense that when you see someone for the first time, you would feel that you could spend a lifetime with that person. Regardless of the formality, as long as the person stayed in your life, the bliss and happiness would seem deserving.

I still remembered the first time I met him.

Of course, I should refer to him as 'her'. Who would have thought that she was really a girl? His features were deep and although he looked beautiful and gentle, his every move was valiant and dashing. He was tall and exceedingly handsome in formal clothes.

Later, Lai En told me that she had added several inserts in her shoes to increase her height.

Regardless of that, she was still a handsome prince in my heart. From the first time I met her, I felt that I needed her in my life. I wanted to be 'his' wife. However, things didn't go as planned.

She told me that she was a girl and I knew that she had told me for fear that I would pursue her further. At the same time, she had no wish to marry me… My heart almost crumbled. In the end, I chose to accept that fact. I guessed that I loved this person for who she was, and not her gender.

I was grateful that she fulfilled my wish. I was clearly aware that despite her agreeing to marry me, I would spend my life being friends with her. Our bliss would have nothing to do with love.

However, I was still willing to. I will work hard to become a good wife and queen. Because of her, I was willing to assume all responsibilities. That wish was eventually shattered.

Just when I had fallen in love with a person, that person was in love with someone else. I had offered to help them to escape. Lai En was very kind. I could tell that she had no wish to implicate me. I believed that she would find a better solution. Even if she were to flee with that beauty, she would make proper arrangements for me.

However, I didn't want that. I offered to help them to escape but it wasn't because I was selfless. I wanted En Lai to be indebted to me. In this way, I could occupy a portion of her heart, even if it was only through guilt. This was buried deep in my heart. A hidden, dark motive that no one knew.

Dear Lai En, you are leading a blissful life.

Although I still dream of our first encounter often, I am happy now.

I hope that we will all be happy.

A chubby and fair little boy asked curiously, "Mother, what are you burning? Is it a letter?"

The mature and elegant queen nodded lightly. "It's a letter to myself. I can burn it now."

"Why do you have to burn it?"

"Because it's all in the past."

The letter continued to burn in the flames of the fireplace. It finally turned into gray ashes. The queen beckoned to her son with both her hands. She watched as the little prince came scuttling to him, clad in formal clothes. Her heart was filled with peace and tenderness.

The king strode in with a smile from outside the hall. "I heard that you went out today?"

The queen nodded with a smile. "I went to visit a longtime friend of mine. She is leading a blissful life now."

The king raised his eyebrows and put his arm around her shoulders. "How blissful is her life? Is it like ours?"

Dai Linnuo chuckled softly.

"Yes, just like us."
