The Couch

Mia:...

Act normal, Mia, don't freak out. Wait, is sitting still as a stone normal? I relax my posture slightly. It's so awkward, I should maybe start a conversation.

Mia:.. Do you want anything to drink?

Do you realize that you're socially awkward? Mini Me asks me in a sarcastic tone. Whatever, it's not like she's wrong, ever.

Custard Face: No, and you've already asked me that twice.

Mia: Right...

... I'm going to die of awkwardness!! I can't think of anything to talk about and... I look outside the window and sure enough, the downpour doesn't look like it plans to stop anytime soon. Think, Mia! Think!! What can you do?! Hold up, I might have an idea!

Mia: Do you like to read novels?

Custard Face: Um, kinda.

Mia: That's good, we can pass time reading some!

Custard Face: Okay...

Mia: Wait a sec.

I go over to the bookshelf and pluck out a few novels. I set them down on the coffee table.

Mia: You can pick out anyone you like! I'll take this one.

I grab one of the novels that I've started reading and sit at a little distance from him on the couch. I love this novel, it's funny, at times deep and mostly, full of drama. I open the book to read it but still watch him from the corner of my eye. He picks a few of them and inspects them, finally picking up a mystery and horror novel. Huh, I didn't know he liked those kind of books. But, what do I even know about him except the fact that he's a fashion illustrator? I decided to push other thoughts out of my mind and focus on my book. After some time, I come across a very hilarious page and can't help cracking up.

Mia:.. Pfft.

I know this is supposed to be an argument but it's still so funny!

Custard Face: What're you readin'?

He asks looking up from his book.

Mia: This? This is 'Police Diaries'.

Custard Face: Is it good?

Mia: Very! You should read this part! Although you may not be able to follow since you haven't read the whole thing.

He scoots closer to me to peer into the book. We both read the part and crack up.

Custard Face: I don't think I need to the read the previous chapters to find it funny, it really is hilarious.

Mia: I know, right?!

I turn to look at him and realize our faces are awfully close to each other. This is like the one scene from the online comic Naomi showed me a few days ago!! And what happens next is...! No, I can't do that!

Mia: U-Um...

I move my face a little far from him.

Custard Face: Ah, sorry.

He returns to his spot but I can't help but feel a little disappointed. When we were entering the house, I was nervous because I was afraid something might happen and now, when nothing happened, I'm disappointed. What's wrong with me? I can't think straight when I'm with him. I mentally sigh and continue reading the book. I don't know how long it's been but, I'm sleepy. I look over at him to ask him if he's sleepy as well only to notice that he's already sound asleep.

Mia:..

He... He looks so handsome and peaceful when he's sleeping, with bangs slightly falling on his long eyelashes. It's then that I notice that he has slight dark circles under his eyes. Has work being getting hectic for him lately? That would explain why he doesn't come to the store as frequently as he used to.

I never really paid attention to his face properly when he's awake since I'm afraid that be might tease me. However, seeing him so defenseless, without his slightly quirky attitude, I almost want to... I reach out my hand to brush his bangs away from his face stop myself. Wait, what am I doing?! He would be creeped out if he saw me doing that right now! But, he's asleep (although that's no good excuse to touch him).

I quietly get up from the couch, careful as not to wake him up. Our clothes are slightly damp from the rain earlier, he'll catch a cold if he sleeps like that. I'll go fetch him a blanket. I open the door to my bedroom and freeze at what I see.

Mia:..?!

I barely manage to stifle a scream.

Mia:...

HOLY CRAP!! I LEFT THE WINDOW OPEN!!! And now my bed's soaked because of the rain!! Where am I going to sleep?! I gave the extra mattresses to the dry cleaners too! Ugh, why did this have to happen TODAY?! There's only one place where I can sleep and that is... My gaze falls on the couch where he's sleeping. It's a terrible idea but, he's sitting and only occupying a part of the couch so maybe I can just squeeze in.

I shut the windows, get changed, grab two blankets and a pillow and slowly walk over to the sofa. I put a blanket on him and sit at the opposite corner of the couch. I roll into a ball as I snuggle in the sheets, resting my head on the pillow. This is oddly comfy. Before long, I feel my eyelids getting heavier and I slowly fall asleep...
