Resolution Crushed

Back in my apartment, I sit down, my back faced to the door and stare into space. Just now, why did I run away? I don't even know what I felt when I saw them together. I'm so naive to think that he was being specially nice to me with just a few words. So naive and weak. Tears stream down my face. Just because he reminded me of Jason doesn't mean that they're the same person! You stupid girl! I bury my face in my knees and tug on my hair with my hands. My clothes are soaked with my tears but they refuse to stop.

Mia: Hic.. Why... Why?!

Why do *I* feel sad?! We're no more than mere acquaintances!! No more than that.... I place my elbows on my knees and touch the back of my head. What is this? I feel something on my hair and remove it. This hairpin... this is the one Jason gave me. Somehow, looking at this makes me furious. I throw it across the room with all my strength.

*Crack*

Wait, that sound, don't tell me..

Mia: Did it...?!

I get up and look for the pin. There it is! I squat down to pick it up but notice that it has broken into two pieces. Oh no, no, no!!! My hands start to tremble as I pick the pin up. This was the only keepsake I had from him and I broke it trying to vent out my frustration. How could I have been so selfish? I clench my fists tightly. The sharp bits of the pin stab my palms and bleed them but the pain I feel in my hands is nothing compared to the piercing feeling my heart. For almost two decades, I took at most care of this pin and now broke it on purpose? This... This all happened because of that stupid, dumbass, playboy Custard Face!!! It's all his fault!! I... I hate him... Or is just my mood swings? Ugh, I'm getting a headache.

The next day...

I'm back to work as usual. I kept the pin in my wallet yesterday so that nothing more happens to it. I'm heading back to the break room when one of my coworkers approaches me.

Co-worker: Mia!

Mia: What's up?

Co-worker: I know you're just starting your break but, can you cover for me for 15 minutes, please?!

Mia: Um, why?

Co-worker: I've got an emergency! I'll try to get back as soon as possible! And I'll give you half of my hourly wage for today!

Mia: Okay. But just for today, you hear?

Co-worker: Thank you!

He takes his bag and rushes out of the backdoor. Looks like I'm on waiting duty. I pick up a notepad from the storage and head to the cafe area. I do the job uh, well you could say clumsily (>~<") After a while, I'm spacing out at the corner, staring out of the glass window.

*Chimes*

Someone just came in. I look at the person's reflection on the window to see... Custard Face?! What the?! I can't let him see me! Wait, what am I panicking for? I look at his reflection once more, he's looking around. He isn't searching for me, is he?! I'm just going to stand here with my back faced to him and he won't see-

Co-worker: Mia! Thank you so much!

Urk! My co-worker rushes towards me. Talk about bad timing! He said my name out loud too! I plaster a nervous smile on my face.

Mia: No problem.

Custard Face: Mia? Custard Face walks over to me as well.

Custard Face: You're here, I was looking for you. And about yesterday-

Mia: It's okay.

I look away from him, unable to make eye contact. My co-worker looks at us back and forth.

Co-worker: Ah, I see.

Mia:???

What?

Co-worker: I just noticed that my shift is over but, since you filled in for me, you can take a break for a while; I'll fill in for you. You guys can go have lunch.

Mia: What?!

Nonononono! Why is he trying to set us up?! I was going to ignore Custard Face starting today! I look at him and notice that he's looking at me too, for my answer....
