Chapter 24: Encountering Variant Zombie Dogs
While Adam went to the clothing section, Gil and the team went out to search for a truck that they can use to transport the supplies. To make it even safer for them to search in the zombie infested area, aside from the 20 ancient devil bugs, another 20 abyssal silver skeletons were sent by Adam to escort the team. No joke! Adam spent too much acting skills to earn these people. He won't let them die for nothing outside.
The first stop of the team was the the biggest manufacturing company in the City B trying their luck if any cargo of trucks were loaded just before the apocalypse. As City B was quiet famous during the time of peace, one of the male team member called Arnold have some memories of the place and determine the location of some enterprises.
As they moved towards the large warehouse of the company, lot's of ordinary zombies wearing working clothes and some even wore office suits that are probably the personnels of the place are loitering around. Unfortunately, the apocalypse had turn the lives of these people to worse and they became zombies who only knew how to crave human flesh.
The team are pretty strong compared to normal people, especially the tier 1 evolutionary Gil who can cut zombies through their bones just by hacking his machete provided by the army. Though his attacks are not as efficient as the skeletons who can move fast and perform extremely hard maneuvers, Gil's attack can hardly be considered as passable.
Heck! If the zombie apocalypse never happen, he won't even know that his hacking power can cut a zombie's head into two.
" It's better to observe the warehouse for some time. We don't know if there are any advance zombies inside and we can't afford to lose another member of the team." Gil said remembering the tragic death of their female team member who had fallen in this mission.
" Arnold, do you have any idea where in the warehouse the big trucks are placed?" the buffed up middle aged man Jackson asked the member who is familiar with the area.
" My buddies and I once checked the trucks inside the warehouse. If I remember correctly, the large trucks are mostly placed at the last parking space of the warehouse. It is estimated that only those large trucks can carry all those supplies." Arnold explained.
Advance zombies have the habit of lurking in dark corners and a warehouse like this one has a high probability of having these type of zombies. Gil knew that it is huge risk to explore this area and he can't just let his team risk their lives for the unknown.
" Maybe these evil looking bugs and skeletons can scout the area first. But how can we tell them to do it? Do you think they can understand us? " Jackson said not sure how things will work.
" Mr. Adam can command them by talking to them. Maybe they can understand us too? " Gil said also looking lost about the situation.
They can't be blamed for this, it is common knowledge that abilities are wielded by the awakened themselves. They don't know whether these skeletons can really understand words or Adam is only talking to them just to relieve some boredom.
"Well, let me try. " one of the women, Emily said while approaching the closest skeleton to them. She is actually nervous even though she worked with this skeletons earlier. Who won't be scared of skeletons?!
" *cough* E-excuse me Mr. skeleton. Can you perhaps try to get inside the warehouse first and s-see what's in there. " the woman said nervously as the blue soul fire in the skeleton's eye sockets focused on her. Gulp.
The skeleton only look at the woman for a couple of seconds before turning around and dragging its boney frame towards the locked iron gate of the warehouse.
Seeing that the way is blocked by the iron gate, the skeletons raised the shovel with it's hands and slam it directly to the thing blocking it's way.
The gate crashed and the sound probably travel faraway attracting zombies to gather towards the area.
" This is bad! We need to get out of here. " Gil said in panic. He didn't expect the skeleton would hit the iron gate to get inside the warehouse. And now they're doom!
But before the team can run, a roar inside the warehouse caught their attention.
* growl *
Then, they see the scariest thing they had ever seen in this life.
* Roooaar! *
Monsters!
3 gigantic monsters as big as a van appeared from the dark warehouse bringing a very strong momentum as they murderously watch the pests who disturbed their territory.
The monsters had black fur, 3 red vertical eyes, extremely sharp claws and standing on all four 3 meters from the ground.
" Be careful! It's a variant zombie dog! " Gil screamed when he finally realized what monstrosity they are encountering.
Zombified animals are actually pretty rare because their gene is not enough to support the virus, so in most cases, infected animals failed to become zombies.
But the scary thing is, each successful zombie animals are all variant zombies and their strength far surpassed anyone in the same tier.
And seeing how powerful this zombie dogs are, they are probably primary tier 3 variant zombies. This is enough to wipeout an experienced survivor team composed of awakened and evolutionary, let alone them!
One of the zombie dog fixed it's eyes on to Gil and the others. Once the zombie dogs confirmed the prey, it suddenly crouched to the ground and perform a powerful leap towards the living flesh.
" Dodge!! " Gil said to his team as they scramble to avoid the zombie dog coming towards them.
But before the zombie dog could even reach it's prey, three figure suddenly appeared in front its leaping trajectory. Three skeletons had caught up with the movement speed of the dog and raised their arms with shovels and directly slamming it to the zombie dog's head.
The zombie dog didn't expect that the bones that it ignored are actually very powerful that his giant frame was thrown back and slammed to the broken iron gate.
The zombie dog that was beaten back had a hard time standing up again as the hit was very powerful. But, as a variant zombie, it's body is actually very resilient to beating which give it an edge towards its opponents.
Zombified animals are known to retain their physical advantage against humans. Therefore, after zombification, these animals have a direct leap in speed and strength.
But even though the zombie dog possess these innate advantages, the abyssal silver skeletons are no joking matter.
Just before the beaten zombie dog can stand up. Another skeleton dashed towards it pushing its feet off the ground jumping above the head of the monster.
The raised shovel of the skeletons looks very daunting and the zombie dog can feel that this attack can actually bring it huge damage, if not death. Purely by instinct, the variant zombie dog performed a dodge by jumping back making the attack of the skeleton missed and smashed the ground to pieces making a huge crater covering 5 meter radius.
The other zombie dogs seeing that their companion was attacked by the skeleton tried to slam their claws. With a huge bang, the skeleton was sent flying slamming towards a concrete wall destroying it completely.
The strength of the variant dog is actually very strong that it even cracked the rib cage of the skeleton.
The weird thing is that black miasma was oozing from the cracks making the skeleton look more scary.
The skeletons suddenly rattled it's jaw seeming like it was very angry with the zombie dogs.
After making this sound, all the skeletons immediately rushed towards the 3 giant monsters. They turn into shadows with their speed as they surrounded the monsters and hitting the zombie dogs severely.
The skeletons attack fiercely and each of their action is actually coordinated performing a series of hits on the body of their target.
After some consecutive beating, the zombie dog that was beaten earlier can't hold out for long and lost it's ability to fight. With this, it's doom is sure to approach and it tried to escape. Same thing was done by the other zombie dogs as they too tried to save their lives.
Being beaten the most, the zombie dog gave it's last howl and fell to the ground completely dead. As for the other two zombie dogs, they were able to escape as the skeletons refuse to pursue them. It is not because the skeletons can't catch them but because the skeletons have the mission to protect Gil and the team. Therefore, they abandoned the hunt and return to their post.
Even the ancient devil bugs who didn't participate in the fight only glance at the escaping zombie dog and didn't gave chase.
Why? Because they have no reason to do so.
Gil and the others on the side who escaped the claw of the zombie dog can only sigh a relief thanking that they have the skeletons with them.

Inside the mall, Adam who was scrutinizing the fabrics of some underwear suddenly received a different notification from the system.
Ding!
" Congratulation host for killing a tier 3 variant zombie dog, rewarding +1000 exp points, 2 unknown fragments (6/100).
progress: tier 3 ( intermediate ) [ tier 4 ( buffed ) ] 15,700/100,000."
Variant zombie dog? What's that?
And so much experience points?!!
Oh well, lets get back to this underwear, hmm pretty smooth.
