Death for survival

As an individual this is a story of how it all began. My name is Zack Drake , born in ? Son to ?. This is what shows up on my documents. I've lived in an orphanage for 10 years. I think I am 14 years now and can only remember life from 4 yrs old. I have been able to remember things as soon as I read or see them once. I've tried to remember my parents and my home since I could understand what they were.

I have 20 little brothers and 5 older brother now, our orphanage mother is like a mother to us all. Along these 10 years I have seen some of my brothers leave with new family or to live in society after their coming of age at 16. I have always wonder how it is on the outside. I have read some book which states this is a country called evals build by human around 100 years ago. I want to go and see outside.

Bryan Drake: hey jack it seems I'll get adopted tomorrow. I met the family they were nice people. I'll finally have mom and dad.

( Bryan came two year after me he's 10 now and is the brother I looked after as we grew.

Zack: yeah yeah but don't forget to see us once in a while,don't be like the other brother who never visit us.

Bryan: how about I asked my new mom and dad to take you with us. Don't you want a mom and dad?

Zack: No Bryan, don't trouble your new mom and dad. I don't want them to be angry with you. Now go and pack your things.

Since I am already 14, skinny and don't look good, people don't choose me but it's okay I don't care. I can always take care of my brothers and see the world when I leave after 2 years.

It's been 6 months since I've heard anything about Bryan, I didn't think he was also like our other brothers who never visit us. I still want to see him, if he is happy or not.

It's been 8 months since Bryan left but now I am worried, I spend the most time with Bryan and know him better than my other brothers. Tonight I have decided to sneak in mother's room to find out about Brian home so I can see him once. The door was left unlock and mother went to sleep hence I went to look for paper on Bryan and found the address. It's at Serenity village. It's two village south from our. I'll sneak there tonight.

Since villages are close to one another and there is no dangerous wild animal around. But look at my luck I can see a wild cat blocking my way. I don't think it's seen me but it seems to know where I am and is growling and hissing at me. How did it find me? Since it knew where I was I decided to pick a stone and try to chase it away. But I seemed to have anger it. Hence I just decided to go around the wild cat. After going around I finally arrived at Bryan's village. It's been 5 hours since I left home, I am hungry and tired. I just need to see him once. I knocked some doors to ask about Bryan but nobody answered. I decided to wait until morning.

Early in the morning I went to some small shops and asked if anyone had seen Bryan. I described him in details and finally found his house. I looked everywhere from outside didn't see Bryan but I didn't want his new mom and dad to be angry with him so didn't knock the door and ask him. I waited until they left the house to go closer and find Bryan. I opens the window and fell in, the house was beautiful and there were food on the kitchen and soft sitting chairs and they even had a beautiful beds in the room. But couldn't find Bryan, I found the door to basement but it was lock and I immediately remember seeing a key that fit it on dad's key hanger. I tried to look under the door but couldn't see anything. I decided to go back thinking maybe he is gone somewhere.

I arrived back at orphanage in the evening and all my brothers were worried and looked for me everywhere. I told my brothers, I had gone to see Bryan but didn't see him. They were exited first but became disappointed soon. After dinner everyone went to sleep. While sleeping I had a nightmare which woke me up in cold sweats and suddenly I remember something. While I was at that basement trying to look there was flickering shadow under the door and felt like someone was crying with a covered face. I was too nervous to realise then but what if that was Bryan.

I decided to leave again but this time I told my brothers where I was going so nobody worried. I went the same way to serenity village. I didn't find the cat this time so it went faster. I waited near there house until mom and dad left to sneak in again. This time I went straight to basement, since I bought a hammer to break the lock just in case. I first knocked the door. No answer. Called Bryan. No answer but I could hear a muffled crying getting louder. I finally decided to beak the lock and open the door. Once I opened the door there was a skinny boy lying on the bed. I asked the boy where was my brother Bryan. The boy kept crying while hiding his face. This time I yelled and ask about my brother again. The boy started crying louder and then I got a clear look at his face and the world stopped for me. My heart felt like it got crushed and burned at the same time. My face started leaking for the first time in my life that I remember. My brother had only one eye, cut in everyplace, missing an arm and was only skin and bones worse than even me.

I felt light headed and sat with my knees hitting beside his bed and started crying loudly. Between my crying I kept asking him what happened, he didn't give me an answer as he was crying too. After 15 minutes he suddenly stopped crying and told me to get out of here before that man and woman come back. I got startled by who and what he meant but realised soon. He must meant the mom and dad, for the first time in my life I felt angry at myself, orphanage and the World.

Suddenly I heard noises upstairs, the couple must be back. Bryan told me to hide under the bed and I hid under the bed quickly. I was hearing voices.

Man: hey wife look the door is open some one might be inside quickly get the knife and my sword. They might still be inside. The couple went inside the basement with their guards up. As soon as they say Bryan they asked him who came in and are they still inside. While shaking from fear Bryan said it was a thief, he saw me and ran away. The couple pretended to believe him and searched the room. When the got closer to bed, Bryan got nervous hence he started riling them up by saying I told the thief about you two. He might inform the village chief and catch you people. The man got angry and started cutting Bryan little by little.

I heard it all but kept myself check and try to rational otherwise Bryan's sacrifice will go to waste.

1 slice, 2 slice each cut on Bryan's skin felt like 100 years gap but the fact that I didn't do anything made me feel ashamed to be me. Asked to call myself Bryan's older brother. I couldn't take it anymore hence when I heard the third slice. I could see his legs because they were close to bed so I used my hammer to hid him square on his feet, he fell down then I jumped from under the bed and started hitting the head. I kept bashing and bashing. There was no stopping me until the woman came from behind and stabbed me with her dagger. I got pushed and fell some distance from bed she checked the man and confirmed he died. This all happens within 10 seconds. Bryan was also shocked by my action and was crying. After stabbing me and seeing her partners situation. She got angry, first she took the dagger on my back out and started questioning me about who I have told this and where while cutting me. While questioning Bryan had picked up the mans sword and stabbed the woman from her heart.

With the amount of blood loss I was gonna die, but I was happy for rescuing my brother from further suffering. I told Bryan I am sorry and thank you for staying alive. I miss you brother and fainted from blood loss.
