5 Roll Call

"It seems like I might have made a small mistake yesterday by forgetting the fact you guys still don't know each other! Hahaha! No matter, today we will fix that by starting homeroom with a roll call where you will get the opportunity to present yourselves!"

'Seriously?'

Looking at the teacher who was now awkwardly scratching the back of his head, I couldn't help but feel embarrassed for his sake as well. Though I had found it a bit strange that we didn't spend some time introducing ourselves, I had just thought it was a part of the academy's policies.

Something along the lines of, 'You aren't here to make friends, so there's no need to know each other's names!'. Turns out, that wasn't the case at all. Our teacher had just forgotten about it.

"Let's go from the front to the back! You, please start!"

Standing up, George was the first one to go.

"My name is George Bright. I specialize in swordsmanship. Hope we get along"

A short and succinct presentation, without wasting any of our time. Which made sense as we weren't kids. Even though we were attending an academy, we were all adults. Me so more than anyone else, but still.

"Good. Then, next, we have?"

As the desks were placed in four rows of three, the next one to stand up was a smaller man sitting to the right of George, in the center of the classroom. And that man was someone that both I and George had met yesterday. Kind of.

"I-I'm... Robert Piper... I am here to become a scholar..."

Not everyone who attended Stellar Academy was here with the intention of becoming a fighter, and Robert was one of those people. I wanted to say that they were quite rare, but I wasn't actually sure if that was true.

Like this, the roll call continued on. And the roll call went like this:

Julia Trepp: A black-haired archer. All in all, just a normal girl. Nothing special.

Steven Long: A ginger spearman with a stature quite similar to George. Looked like a happy fella.

Fred Fredder: The black-haired man who we had seen hanging out with Mike. A warrior who wielded a mace.

Susan Doyle: A wind magician with green hair. Appeared to be quite shy, which complemented her smaller build.

Mike Thorn: Well, you already somewhat know who he is.

These were all people who I regarded as mere extras, people who wouldn't carry all too large impacts on the story unless something weird happened.

The ones I did pay attention to, however, were:

"My name is Samantha Esta! Although some of you might know me as the princess, I want you all to try your best and treat me like just another student. My specialty is healing magic! A pleasure to meet you all!"

Samantha, the pink-haired princess of the nation. As if it weren't incredibly obvious, she was someone who would later become part of the hero's party, acting as the healer of the group. With her overly friendly demeanor and cute face, I had to struggle a bit to keep my hormone-filled body in check.

"I am Thomas Stout! I am a close-combat fighter!"

Despite his amazingly short introduction, I was still paying close attention when the large man known as Thomas introduced himself. Yes, you guessed it. He was also going to become of the hero's party, acting as a vanguard. In fact, all the ones I paid extra attention to would be.

"I am Lya Lavigne. I am a summoner. A pleasure to meet you all."

Lya brought out a very polite, yet still quite distant introduction of herself. Just like Samantha, she was also an extremely beautiful woman who had long, black hair going all the way down to her hips. As she said, she was a summoner, someone who could summon spirit beasts from another dimension to aid her.

Lastly, we had...

"Eva Redmoon. Mage."

Almost as if to show Thomas his place, we had the Elementalist Eva who somehow managed to keep her introduction even shorter than Thomas'. With a stature similar to Susan's, Eva was also a short girl, however instead of green hair, her hair shone with a perfect silver color. In contrast to Susan, though, she still carried a very mature air around her.

Unlike most mages, who specialized in one element, Eva would go on and become a master of all of them. In the future, she would even be able to combine them as a means of bringing out even more destruction.

And with that, roll call had finished. Almost.

"Oh, it seems like there is only one left now!"

As I was sitting in the back of the classroom, it wasn't strange that I was the last one to go, but it still didn't quite feel like a coincidence either. Despite that, I simply smiled and did the introduction that I had practiced in my mind so many times already.

"My name is Alex Winter. I am also a mage. I hope we can all get along in the future."

There was no reason to mention any specifics about what I could do or what I specialized in. It would be foolish to give away that information just for the sake of it. Not that I had any skills except for telekinesis, but I still wanted to keep it a secret for as long as possible.

"Good! Now all of you at least know each other's names! The only thing left for us to do today before I give way for Ms. Brighton to start her lecture is for you to choose a class president as well as a co-president!"

'Just like that? Not even caring about the fact that we only learned of each other's names just now?'

Biting my tongue, I decided to keep my thoughts to myself. After all, I wasn't the teacher at the most prestigious academy in this world. Who was I to say what was right or wrong?

"Then, I will give you thirty minutes to decide. Do keep in mind that if you don't manage to do so, the roles will be filled through a lottery."

Mr. Froid didn't hesitate for a second to step outside of the classroom, leaving us freshmen by ourselves. And due to his final words before leaving, I doubted that anyone didn't understand that it would be at least somewhat important for us to fill the role of president and co-president.

What did these roles entail? I had no idea. All I knew was that I didn't want to fill...

*Bing!*

'Ah, you fucking...'

==========

[Act 1, chapter 2: The duty of a student!]

New mission:

- Make Robert Piper become the co-president!

Penalty:

- Death

==========

'Why does it always have to be death?! Also, isn't this impossible?!'

With teary eyes, I scanned the room where my classmates had already begun to move. Naturally, the first one to act was the red-haired asshole who walked up to the blackboard, taking his place behind the teacher's desk. Something that I knew made George quite frustrated, seeing as the despicable noble acted like he owned this place.

Wearing a very polite smile, which I knew was the hiding place of a snake, he spoke buttery-smooth words.

"Hello, everyone. As previously mentioned, I am Mike Thorn, heir to the Rose family. Due to the time constraint, I took the initiative to lead our conversation. If you are against this, please do speak up."

Everyone just shook their hands, most of us looking quite thankful that someone took it upon himself to direct our upcoming discussion.

'But I can already see where this is going...'

I couldn't remember what had happened in the novel, but if there was one thing that I knew, then it was that there was no way Mike would steer the conversation in a way where Robert could even have the slimmest chance of becoming the class president.

In other words...

'I will die if I don't do something...'

In my mind, I didn't think Mike would be so impertinent to simply dismiss the princess among us, even to the point where I wouldn't be surprised if he made the suggestion that she should become the president. Naturally, he would then go on and try and become the co-president himself.

"Great! Then I propose..."

Standing up, I knew that I needed to act quickly before he got anyone on his side.

"I think we should use a nomination system by giving everyone who wants it a chance to debate for whoever they think is fit for the roles."

Everyone's heads turned, making all of them now look at me with various kinds of expressions. Everyone except for Eva who didn't seem to care at all about any of this. She was simply staring out of the window on the side of the classroom.

Mike included.

Despite his trying to keep up his polite façade, I saw that his face strained a bit.

"But I don't think we have enough..."

"I agree with Alex."

George also stood up now, quickly agreeing with my words. It felt quite good to know that he was on my side in this, even if it was only as a means of trying to get back at Mike. Surprisingly, however, there was also another person who followed suit.

"I also agree with Alex. I think it's a great idea!"

The princess herself also agreed, her pink hair fluttering a bit as she spoke with a bright smile.
