1 1. The beginning of a nightmare

The sounds of my key sliding into the lock with a satisfying clunk made the days worries feel that much lighter. The smell of cooking filled the small apartment as I stepped in and I breathed in deeply of its rich scent.Honey, welcome home." Scott my fiancés smooth voice filled me with warmth even before I saw his bent over form cooking the wonderful smelling dinner.

"What is that delicious smell?" Coming up behind him for a hug, he turned around to hug me and give me a kiss.

"How was your day?"

"Eventful as always, at least this time I didn't have to deal with an upset parent only getting half the story today." Sighing into his arms I breathed in his soft masculine scent. He didn't like using clone and his work gave him a slight musky-woodsy smell from working with his carvings. Today he smelled more of cedar and it was nice.

"Oh well, that's good. And that one kid didn't give you a hard time again today?" We separated naturally as he took up his stirring spoon once more.

"Thankfully he was absent today…I hope nothing is wrong." Knitting my eyebrows at the sudden idea I heard Scott snort and it made me smile. " What?"

He just shook his head, " You just always surprise me with how much of a good teacher you will be." The comment had many meanings but I chose to take the compliment.

"Thanks, darling." Putting more attitude in my retort and dodging the arm that attempted to capture my waist I couldn't help but tease him a little.

" You know how I feel about that, sweet cheeks." His handsome face had a sly smile on it and I could tell he was ready to pounce on me. Only the delicious cooking food kept him in place.

For some reason, I couldn't answer and everything began to feel strange and muted somehow. My world began to shift and swirl. My wonderful fiancé face that was just a few steps away now seemed frozen in time, distorted, and growing farther and farther away… What was happening! What was wrong with me!

My stomach began to roll and threaten to expel what was left of my lunch that day. I couldn't keep my footing anymore and I fell into inky blackness.
