9 Chapter 7

It was a bright and sunny morning. But we were looking gloom. We woke up early. Most of us refused to engage in activities except Daniel, Tommy, Taylor, Adriana and a few others. We kept sticking to each other, since everyone was afraid of being alone. And we had a whole bunch of reasons to be. After we woke up, Mrs Sana and Mr Alessio went to the cliff to make calls, but unfortunately came back with bad results. The cliff, apparently, doesn't always have network. And the storm last night, only made things worse. We were very furious. Personally, I was beyond furious. I mean, why would we not be informed of something like that? It's crucial information. I want to talk to my family and I feel stuffed in this strange place. Besides, it also seemed like we weren't the only ones. Mr Cameron brought more security locks in the early hours of the morning and installed them. According to him, we need to be 'security conscious'.

What added fire to the fuel was the fact that Sir Rob, still hadn't arrived. Caleb, even suggested that the old guy ran away. But we knew Sir Rob.  He is as dedicated as the most loyal man in the entire world. He simply wouldn't do that.

We were sitted at a round table: Nina, Ade, and I. "What do you guys think? Mr Cameron is gonna call us for a meeting." Ade started.

I huffed, "Ade, I'm just not myself. I'm gonna tell them to just arrange everything for us to leave."

"Yeah. But how can we? We have no bus. My main priority is to call home.  I'm sure they are worried sick." Nina said clearly irritated.

We continued bringing ideas until Drew joined us. He also brought his own solutions but they were all fruitless.

Adriana, Tommy, Taylor, Dmitry, Natasha and Miranda were in the swimming pool, laughing and having the time of their lives. Miranda had been worried about everything going on lately and decided to confide in her friends.

"What do you think?"

"Think? Of what dearie?" Tommy, her boyfriend asked.

"Of course you know! Of everything." She rolled her eyes.

"I think it's all crap. Just something they made up. And I'm betting that Jameela's behind it all. That girl, she just gets on my nerves. Ugh, how I hate her." Adriana gritted her teeth.

"Well, I honestly have no opinion on this. My head can't just wrap itself around this. Anyway, I'm going to the bathroom." Taylor said and came out of the swimming pool. The rest continued their discussion and shading of Jameela and her friends.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the camp, at the backyard, were Ryan and Nat sitting closely together. Their faces looked intense but happy to be in each other's company.

Ryan broke the comforting silence and began telling Nat of his thoughts. "Sometimes, you know, I get this funny feeling. Like am gonna lose everything and everyone. That's why I don't open up much, if you noticed."

Nat quickly shook her head up and down, "Yeah, of course.  I noticed. But you know what I think? In this world, we are all looking for something. We might find it or die trying. Your feelings are just a reaction of your thoughts. Don't let it get the better of you." She then, put her hand on his and continued, "you are better than this. Think, that only the best will happen and trust me, everything will change. Always be positive. Negativity brings out the worst in us all. You are my friend, Ryan. I wouldn't want anything happening to you or your family. I lo..." She stopped immediately and cleared her throat.

Ryan broke the silence, "you know what, Nat? I feel much better. You are a good friend. Thank you very much. It's like a huge weight has been lifted from my chest. I feel so relieved. You know, we don't really talk a lot. We should be doing that more."

They both smiled.

"Yeah. We should." Nat replied. She was happy to be in Ryan's' company but her heart also shattered in pieces when he called her a friend, because she wanted to be more than that. She mustered all her courage in trying to smile.

They stayed quiet in the comfortable silence, just inhaling the cool air and enjoying each others company.

I slept for a long time and woke up when it was two p.m. I prayed and ate on my bed. Afterwards, I strolled around the camp. And rested on a swing.

I was terrified when Mr Alessio came from behind, "hey. Sorry I scared you."

"It's okay. How have you been?"

"Ok I guess? What do you think of going to our place?" He asked still standing.

"That would be great." I had gotten up from the swing and was going to put my hand in his, when Mrs Sana spoke from afar, coming towards us.

"Hi. Alessio. I have been looking for you. Jameela, how are you?"

"I'm fine." My voice was shaking.  In my mind, I was praying that she didn't see us.

"That's good. At least, you are not worried." She let out a short laugh.

"Worried?" I asked.

"Yes my dear, most of the students are worried. I just discussed with some of them. The twins Alex and Alexa, are saying that what's happening is exactly like the horror movies they had seen. Katie and Michael

suggested we go home. Haha, I don't know what they were thinking." She said.

"Don't worry. It was probably an animal." Mr Alessio said.

"Yes. Probably. Alessio, Cameron was asking of you. I came to see where you were."

"Ok. Let's go." Alessio left with her, after mouthing a sorry to me.

I sat there, gazing intently at the dense blue horizon, as if a shadow might appear anytime soon. I spent some hours there before returning to my room.

Murmurs woke me up that night. Turning to my side, I found Mariyam at the deep end of the room, on her bed shaking frantically. She was murmuring some inaudible words. Slowly, I went to her and shook her.

"Mari, what's wrong?" She continued shaking. I had to wake the others up. At last, she woke up. She was clearly shaken and shivering by whatever just happened to her. We stayed awake for some time, until she finally fell asleep.

"I wonder what happened to her. She has never done this nor told us of having this strange behaviour," I said as I pulled the blanket over her.

"Maybe it's her bipolar that kicked in?" Jane asked, looking shaken by what just occurred.

"No. It's not it. I didn't see it in the symptoms when we checked. This looks different." I replied.

Nina cut me off abruptly, "kind of evil." We looked at her immediately. She continued, "didn't you hear what she was saying? She sounded like someone possessed, if you ask me."

"Well, whatever it is, don't tell the teachers." I said.

"Definitely not." Nat sighed.
