20 System start

— Four months after Clays disappearance—

"This is an emergency broadcast to all radios. Remain indoors and remain calm, the military has this under control." The same message had been on loop for the last 3 months.

Explosions went off as screams rang out around the city. Creatures ran around hunting anything that moved even each other, horrific screams of pain filled the air both human and animal.

For Mia it was a nightmare she couldn't wake up from, her parents being some of the first to die. She could still remember the day the message appeared as her world turned upside down.

— Welcome to the Tournament of Worlds. System 404 initiated. Best of luck to you all and remember, "The Strongest Survive"—

Mia had lived a simple life growing up in rural Michigan, she lived with her parents about to turn 17 that year before it all got destroyed. A giant as tall as a sky scraper appeared out of nowhere crushing her and many others houses and loved ones. A swarm of bugs the size of a house cat ravaged their town, eating anything they came across.

Mia took a look at her stats as she prepared to make a trip across town.

After killing a bunch of the bugbites she hit level 10 and discovered the use of magic allowing her to kill hundreds more of the weak flys. Wandering out the door she watched in horror as a man ran down the road, his level still in the single digits was pounced on by a crocodile mixed with a jackal. It tore his head off in a single movement, blood sprayed out from the gash like a pressurized hose.

"Shit." She mumbled to herself, taking a look at its level Mia wanted to just hide.

—Scalehound lvl.173–

It was the highest level creature she had seen since the giant who's level was in the thousands. Closing the door quietly as the beast enjoyed its meal she slipped out the back door and hoped the fence into her neighbours yard.

'Oh good how do I get by that thing?' She thought walking in circles. 'Ill just go around.'

Hoping from yard to yard she made her way to her destination, a small garden that had a few growing plants that she had been getting food from. The small greenhouse used to be an old community garden, it's glass walls cracked and shattered, the roof filled with holes, old rusted name plates were the only memory of the members many of whom were killed.

Mia scrounged through the dirt looking for any carrots and other vegetables left, most were mostly eaten by some of the friendly creatures that appeared. Uprooting a few carrots and a beet she made the trek through the yards only glancing over the fence to see if the scalehound was still there, lying in the middle of the road it sat still like a statue the only indication of life was the slight rise and fall of its chest.

Slipping into the abandoned house the flips and clicks of dozens of locks could be heard. Letting out a sigh of relief Mia crumbled on the floor in a ball of tears and fear. It wasn't the first she had seen someone be hunted down but for every life she watched get extinguished the burden of knowing she did nothing piled on weighing down. A dangerous look of primal anger entered her eye as the clouds above darkened, a slight rumble of thunder could be heard in the distance.

"I'm done being hunted." She whisper to herself as lightning struck all around her.

(Clay's POV)

Walking through the halls with John I single thought came to Clays mind, he knew absolutely nothing about John.

"John tell me about yourself, I haven't really asked you anything personally."

"Ohh... Well I am John Asen, third in line for the throne and absolutely despise being royalty." He said a look of disgust crossing his face. "I'm an onl-"

"Hold up....Your in line for the throne!" Clay exclaimed.

"Ya my mother is the kings sister and mean I don't want it so hopefully that doesn't come to be."

"Why?" Clay asked.

"I can't deal with the responsibilities, everything I say could change the fates of billions, every action criticized. You know the stress I'm under? It's why I spend so much time partying, it's takes away from reality and allows me to live freely without the suffocating barriers imposed by my parents." John sighed.

Clay understood what he felt in some sense having been pushed by his parents all his life to do something he didn't care for but in the end it didn't matter, a new world where he could become whatever he wanted existed and Clay planned to take full advantage of it.

"Well we're almost there and everyone will be waiting."

"Hey did anybody question what happened with the troll in the court yard?" Clay asked nervously fearing he might be in trouble for it.

"That? Nah. It was strange cause the headmaster kinda just dismissed it as some freak accident."

'Odd...' Clay thought.

Walking into the massive mess hall they spotted the other sitting at a table on the edge of the room.

"So then John came up and WHAM!" Eric said throwing his arm forwards. "Oh man you should have seen Clays nose it was almost flattened and hey guys!" Waving them over they sat down.

"I got distracted and he got a lucky hit." Clay said shaking his head.

Punching him in the shoulder John sat down. "Sure but tomorrow we might need a round two."
