Chapter 1: life saver

I walked down the side-walk and I was a few blocks away from my house, I was the only one around, my neighborhood was quiet. It felt like I was in a ghost town and something felt off.

My school dismissed us an hour early because of something that was on the news, but they wouldn't tell us what it was. Which means I get to go home to my mom, stepdad, stepbrother and my dog.

My mom and my stepdad, Jason, recently got married. Him and my new stepbrother, Noah, live with us now even though Noah and I don't get along that well. He picks on me 24/7, even when our parents are around.

I've known those two my whole life, my biological father left my mom when she was pregnant with me. But that doesn't mean I call Jason "dad".

We are NOT that close.

I finally made it to my house and removed my ear buds from my ears as I walked up the stairs to the front door.

I grabbed my house key out of my pocket and unlocked the front door, walked in and then shut it behind me.

I threw my backpack down on the ground and walked over to the fridge to grab something to eat.

"Mom, can we eat out tonight?!" I called out. All I heard was silence.

"Mom?" I called out again. That's when I noticed the sticky note on the refrigerator.

              "Sav,

Jason and I are going out for a date

night. We'll be back before 7. I made

pizza for you and Noah. Don't mess

up the house and behave yourselves!

                                    Love you both,

                                                      Mom."

I rolled my eyes, my mom always goes out on date nights with him resulting in me not seeing her till the next morning. To satisfy my hunger, I bent down to the freezer, slid it open, and reached for the big container of cookies and cream ice cream.

I set the container of ice cream on the counter and grabbed a bowl from one of the top cupboards, along with a gray scooper.

I removed the cover off of the ice cream and out seven scoops into the bowl.

I licked the scooper clean, then held it underneath the faucet and turned it on, but nothing cane out.

I didn't think to much of it.

I sighed, "Mom forgot the damn water bill again." I told myself out loud.

So I just dropped the scooper into the dry sink. I grabbed a spoon and took a few bites of my ice cream (without putting the container away) before I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket.

I took it out and felt it vibrate continuously in my hand. I turned the screen on and saw several messages from my mom and more coming in. I narrowed my eyebrows and before I could even unlock my phone, the screen went black and it wouldn't turn on again.

But there was no way it died, it was at eighty-seven percent.

The loud boom outside startled me and I jumped almost a mile a minute. Loud noises like that are usually caused by falling trees around there, so I didn't think to much of that either.

I set my bowl of half-melted ice cream on the counter and took the back of my phone off, took the battery out, and blew on it to see if that would fix whatever just happened.

A noise came from inside Noah's room that caused me to freeze up for a second.

"Noah?" I called out. He didn't reply but I heard that same noise again.

"Noah? If you're fucking with me, knock it off." I warned him.

He didn't say anything, and I heard that noise again, but this time it was two times louder.

I started getting frustrated with him, so I walked up to his door and I noticed that it was open a crack.

I could hear him moving around in there and from what I could see he was on his knees on the floor, but I could also hear a gurgling kind of noise, almost as if he was eating something chewy.

"Noah?" I said softly. The gurgling noise stopped and he stopped moving. He was completely still.

I decided I had enough of his games and I swung his bedroom door open.

My eyes widened at what was happening in that room. My brother was on his knees with his head over our dog's motionless body. There was blood splattered all over the walls, Noah's bed, and his hands. The white carpet was now stained with rained. Noah was ripping our poor dog apart with his bare hands and eating him with no remorse.

Our dog's stomach was out, and blood was falling out of him. My heart beat sped up ten times faster as I watched as Noah feasted on our dog. I began to cry silent tears.

I stood there horrified, frozen in place. I wanted to do something to stop it but my feet wouldn't move. I wanted to scream but my mouth wouldn't open. He had no idea that I was standing there, watching everything.

All of a sudden Noah dropped all the meat that was in his hands and turned around to see me standing in the door way.

He didn't look like himself, his eyes weren't that emerald-greencolor anymore, they were a blue-ish white color. His skin was pale and you could see the veins in his face.

He let out a loud scream, he stood up and began to charge at me. I backed away from him quickly and I collided with the counter and knocked over glass filled strainer.

I didn't know what else to do besides run, so I ran towards the front door, swung it open and ran outside. And I kept running and running as fast as I could.

The faster I ran the more tired I got. He wasn't getting tired any time soon.

I didn't know what was happening. I was crying ao much that I could barely see through my tears. I tripped on a crack on the sidewalk that my eyes failed to see. I turned on my back but before I could get up Noah fell on top of me but I managed to keep his mouth away from my neck.

"Stop!" I cried. "Please!"

But he kept coming at me, he was struggling so hard to get his mouth closer to my skin.

"Noah!" I cried out. "What happened to you?!"

I heard a loud boom and blood splattered all over my face, and Noah stopped trying to hurt me. His body collapsed on top of mine. I gently pushed his lifeless body off me and saw a man standing in front of me with a gun in his hand.

More tears streamed down my cheeks, until the man came closer to me and I backed up slowly.

"Come on, kid." he said to me as he put his hand out for me. "let's get you on your feet."

I hesitated to take his hand, but I did, and he helped me up off the ground.

[Even though this is a story, and it's not real I almost cried when I wrote the dog part because I love animals and that part made me really sad 😭😭]
