Shielding the Innocent

Fear and desperation flashed across the girl's eyes. Stumbling backward, she tried to escape the menacing figure, approaching her. The chain went taut and yanked the girls forward.

She let out a pitiful yelp and sank down the ground, whimpering in fear.

"15 coins!" the nasal voice called out once again.

Fang closed his eyes. He couldn't bear to watch. In front of him, the man raised his iron-studded whip. Flashing upwards in the sky, it fell in an arc, the iron barbs whistling through the air.

Instinctively, Fang flexed his fingers and a glowing green shell surrounded the girl. He had executed the Supreme Turtle's Shield technique to save the girl. The whip, hitting the shield, rebounded, slicing across the overseer's face. A deep gash ran down his cheek, blood and bits of iron sliding down his face. He growled in pain and humiliation.

Glaring fiercely at the crowd, he roared in anger.

"Who did that?" he thundered, quaking the ground with his powerful voice.

He stared at the crowd, raising his whip again. The girl, still crying softly on the ground, opened her eyes and looked around.

She waited for the blow, but it did not come. Looking around, she saw a green barrier around her and iron fragments in the earth.

Hesitantly she got up, the chains around her wrists and ankles clinking. The overseer, aware of the noise, turned around. Seeing the girl get up, he snarled in anger.

Throwing down his whip, he drew a long black blade.

"Little slave...," he crooned in a sadistic manner.

The wolf girl whimpered and shrank backward, in fear.

The overseer approached her with malice and evil intent written all over his face.

"This is the Bone Devouring Blade," the overseer began.

"Each strike of the blade is excruciatingly painful,"

"The size of the blade's edge alone will give you massive gashes,"

"However, it is covered in the Bone Devouring Poison, which infiltrates your skin and seeps into your bones. The pain is terrible... it feels as if you are being whipped to the point where your skin dribbles off your bones and then each one of your bones has the marrow sucked out of them and are then broken and left for dogs to devour,"

He looked around at the crowd, which shifted uneasily.

"The sooner you come forward, the less pain this girl will have to bear. After all, no shield can last forever," he spoke, in a sinister voice.

The crowd murmured amongst themselves. Now it was not that they agreed with the overseer's actions, but rather they had seen too many incidents where slaves were harshly tormented for almost any reason. No one would dare stand up for a slave anyway. Tittering amongst themselves, the crowd slowly dispersed like mice fleeing to their holes.

The overseer snarled. No one had confessed. What a pity. He turned towards the slave again, when a solitary figure caught his eye. Turning around, he stared with an evil amusement in his eyes.

A singular figure stood in front of him. Exuding a warm and kind aura, Fang stared at the overseer with a stare charged with disapproval. He frowned and stepped forward.

"So you're the one who put up this shield, eh?" the overseer asked.

Fang nodded and the overseer grinned.

"Good. That means both of you will suffer," he spoke, evilly.

The overseer cackled and approached Fang, malice covering his heart.
