6 Why Should She Bring Along Her Identity Card For A Movie?

It was a bright, sunny day the next morning. The cold, refreshing breeze turned warmer along with the gradually rising sun. 

Couples were strolling on the campus' tree-lined boulevard. They walked intimately and whispered into each others' ears affectionately, immersed in the ambiance of spring. 

The single person that was walking amongst them had a calm and composed expression on his face, yet his eyes were filled with envy and jealousy. "No good will come to all of you!"

Zhou Wen made his way to the laboratory building wearing the Biotype mask. 

He was planning to spend some time in the library today; however, he was still feeling rather anxious about falling sick since he was bitten by a mutated aphid yesterday. Hence, he made the decision to come here and perform an electron microscopic observation of the aphid and then a blood test for himself. 

While changing into his lab coat in the changing room, he unintentionally utilized his Truevision attribute. As a result, he noticed that the coats were densely-covered in bacteria, especially on the sleeves and collars. 

Furthermore, those bacteria were also transferred to his hands when he touched them earlier. 

"Damnit…" Zhou Wen shook his hand in an effort to toss away the lab coat. 

Soon afterward, he immediately retracted his Truevision attribute. 

Even though he was well aware that these bacteria had a symbiotic relationship with the human body and did not cause harm, it was still rather disgusting for him to see them crawling everywhere on his body. 

Zhou Wen warned himself in his heart not to casually unleash the Truevision from now on. Otherwise, life would be really hard for him. 

However, he could not bring himself to wear the lab coat on the floor. It was fine for him if he was unaware of the countless bacteria on the lab coat, but now, he just could not bring himself to put the lab coat on. 

Fortunately, he still had one more lab coat on standby that was recently washed. He brought it along with him in case he needed to swap it with his used one. 

He had learned his lesson and did not have the courage to see the number of bacteria lying on his recently washed and sunned lab coat. He got changed and then headed straight into the laboratory. Out of sight, out of mind. 

He checked his body temperature upon entering the laboratory. 

Body surface temperature: 36.5 degrees celsius. 

Oral temperature: 37.1 degrees celsius.

His readings were normal. 

Next, he began sterilizing the labware. It was his first task every time he entered the laboratory. 

He bustled about for over an hour before he finally put all the labware that needed to be sterilized with high temperature into the autoclave. Shi Lei came into the laboratory right about this time as well. 

He was surprised to see Zhou Wen, so he asked curiously, "Huh, why are you here today?"

Zhou Wen said smilingly, "I didn't have the time to perform my experiment yesterday, and I was so anxious after leaving. So, I'm here today to make up for it."

Zhou Wen continued to speak while chuckling before Shi Lei could reply to his remarks, "How was yesterday? Which base did you hit?"

Shi Lei chuckled shyly, but he did not reply. 

The act of engaging in scandalous chat was common human behavior. Noticing that Shi Lei refused to talk about it, he attempted to probe further by asking, "Was there any touchy-feely? Or… Did you intubate her?"

Due to the frequent harassment from his few coquettish roommates in the hostel, Zhou Wen, albeit pure in flesh, already had a polluted mind. His words were tainted with promiscuity. 

Shi Lei shyly replied, "No. Lanlan is a very shy person. It wasn't as exaggerated as your imagination. We went for a movie date and had a casual dinner afterward. Also…we did share a kiss."

"F*ck. It was just a kiss. What's there for you to be embarrassed about anyway?"

Zhou Wen felt speechless. "A shy fourth-year female student. Can you believe that? So, did you send her home after dinner?"

Shi Lei nodded. "Hmm."

Zhou Wen continued, "Since she had agreed to go on a movie date with you willingly, she must have brought along her identity card too. Yet, you actually sent her home."

Shi Lei replied in a puzzled state, "Why would she bring along her identity card for a movie?"

To which Zhou Wen replied, "Uh… They check your identity card in the cinema sometimes."

"Oh, I see…" Shi Lei seldom went for movies, so he did not know this well. Hence, he could only take Zhou Wen's word for it. 

Shi Lei checked on the white mouse's DNA in the sterile box while chuckling. Then, he uttered out of curiosity, "Huh, you extracted eight samples?"

Even though one could theoretically extract four to eight DNA samples from a white mouse, four samples were the amount that was generally acquired. This was because trying to extract too many samples would result in the failure of DNA extraction. Therefore, Shi Lei was rather astonished by the outcome. 

Zhou Wen casually acknowledged, "Yes, I was bored yesterday, so I carried out a few more sets of experiments."

Shi Lei took a glance at the white mice cages in the next room through the glass window and discovered that the white mice in one of the cages were gone. "Did you perform an electron microscopic observation?"

Zhou Wen answered, "Hmm... But it always failed."

Shi Lei nodded to express his understanding. The failure rate in the white mouse's DNA extraction was very high among students, especially if it was done through an electron microscopic observation. The temperature, timing, technique, and other matters played a huge role in influencing the success rate. 

Shi Lei sealed the DNA box and said, "I'm going to deliver the product. Tell Lin Jiayi to extract six samples when she's here."

Zhou Wen nodded and answered, "Hmm, noted…"

Lin Jiayi arrived at ten. 

It was precisely the same time when the sterilization process was complete. 

Lin Jiayi had a look of surprise on her face upon seeing Zhou Wen's presence. She walked over to him and said in a feigned sweet voice, "Zhou Wen, there's something I wish to discuss with you…"

Zhou Wen procured the frozen mutated aphid corpse from yesterday from the low-temperature refrigerator. He walked as he answered, "Are you going to ask me for a favor?"

"Has Shi Lei spoken to you?" Lin Jiayi giggled. "I have something today, and I don't have time to do it. Thank you for taking the trouble to help me."

Zhou Wen responded, "Why? Are you going on a date with your boyfriend?"

Lin Jiayi bit her lip and said with a feigned piteous expression, "Yes, is that alright?"

Zhou Wen was planning to reject her request immediately upon hearing it. She must be crazy to think that he would help her to do her experiment while she was out on a sweet date with her boyfriend!

Meanwhile, a 'ding' was heard in his ears. Soon afterward, a pleasant, soft reminder was heard in his ears, just like when he accomplished the mission last night. [Ding! Request from Lin Jiayi, would you like to accept it?]

Zhou Wen brought up the system and a dialogue box popped out before his eyes. 

[Mission: Help Lin Jiayi to complete the task of extracting six white mouse's DNA samples.

Zhou Wen felt rather curious upon seeing the reward. 'Huh, this is the exact same mission as yesterday. Why had the reward and point accumulation grown? Could it be that this was the difference between performing a task actively and passively?"

Was the Course XP from yesterday's mission lower because it was a mission initiated by the system spontaneously?

On the other hand, the Course XP given by the system today was higher because it was a mission triggered by himself passively?

Zhou Wen thought about this in his heart. 'Is this a bug in the system? If I were to actively initiate missions, will the system be giving me higher scores then? I should give it a try when I have the opportunity.'

Upon noticing that Zhou Wen did not give a reply after a long time, Lin Jiayi continued in her sweet voice, "Zhou Wen… Is that okay? Pretty please…"

Zhou Wen regained his focus and answered as if he were forced to take on this difficult task for her, "Alright...I guess..."

Of course, that was impossible. 

Lin Jiayi thanked Zhou Wen, and then she ran away with loud thumps on the ground. 

Meanwhile, Zhou Wen dismissed the thought of Lin Jiayi spending the night with her boyfriend in his mind. He then began the viral test with great attention. 

He procured the mutated aphid's corpse from the ultra low-temperature freezer and ground up the smashed corpse before he placed it in the centrifuge. 

A total of four specimens were produced. Next, he used his Truevision to scan through the specimens, but he did not discover any anomalies. 

Nevertheless, he still remained unconvinced. He prepared two specimens for electrophoresis analysis simultaneously and two specimens for electron microscopic observation. 

It was precisely at this time when Shi Lei came back with lunch takeaways. 

"It's time for lunch… Huh, where's Lin Jiayi?"

"She went on a date with her boyfriend."

"This is her task; why is she always pushing it to you?"

"It's fine. I'm free anyway."

The two then walked out of the laboratory while chatting. 

They washed their hands by the basin at the door and went to the opposite office before they sat down. Shi Lei opened up the takeaway boxes one by one. There were stir-fried tomatoes with scrambled eggs, sautéed beef fillet, steamed fish head with diced hot red peppers, and a portion of corn pork rib soup. 

Zhou Wen took a glance and said, "Whoa, that's a huge feast. Did you win the lottery or something?

Shi Lei chuckled and replied, "This is a special feast to reward you for helping me to perform the experiment yesterday."

"You're too courteous," said Zhou Wen while he picked up the chopsticks and began to eat. 

Shi Lei asked during the meal, "What's your plan after graduation?

To which Zhou Wen said smilingly, "I don't know yet. How about you?"

"Me huh. The boss has recommended me to a biopharmaceutical company. However, I have yet to receive a formal offer from the company."

Shi Lei heaved a sigh upon saying that. Then, he continued, "Nonetheless, it wouldn't be very interesting even if I were to get the offer. We have a senior working there too. He told me that he gets 4000 RMB on hand a month after paying all the insurance and housing funds."

"4000 bucks in the city…" Zhou Wen was at a loss for words. 

Had it not been for the Pharmacist System, he predicted that he would be worried about his future now just like Shi Lei. 

Zhou Wen headed back to the laboratory after lunch.
