Supreme Monster Hunter System

18 year old Kris dies saving a child, he gets hit by a truck (ERROR: CANNOT CLICHE HARDER) and his soul is sent across time and space to possess a recently deceased homeless boy. This is my first real try in writing a story so bear with me as I flounder about trying to piece together a semblance of literature. 1K word chapter every day.

The System

I opened my eyes, breathing heavily. Where am I? I looked around, finding myself to be in a forest of some sort. I looked up and found the leaves of the trees to be blood red, beautifully contrasting with the sky. I was released from his entranced state by the sound of a twig snapping behind me. I whipped my head around before throwing myself to the side as a snake flew past me. The snakes head slammed into the tree he had been leaning on, temporarily dazing it. I stumbled back against another tree as the snake writhed and coiled its body, facing me. I felt around the ground and found a somewhat sharp rock, picking it up and holding it in front of me as if to ward off the snake. That didn't really work as the snake leaped at me. I panicked and swung the stone towards it, slamming into its head and throwing it to the ground.

It writhed around with its head bashed in for a few moments before it quickly lost its vigor, succumbing to death. I slid down the tree and to the ground, panting.'That's strange, why did I get tired so fast' I looked down at himself and saw short the short legs of at most 12-year-old boy. Now that I thought about it my stomach was tearing at me. I could see my ribs defined under my skin when I lifted my shirt up. I couldn't think any further on this as I was interrupted by a voice inside my head.

[Hunted Juvenile Forest Snake x1, 10 SC Awarded.]

[Congratulations! For killing your first monster you have been awarded Starter Gift Pack x1]

I had been a fan of web novels so I'm familiar with the situation I now found myself in. I managed to suspend my disbelief at least momentarily to try something I'd always wanted to do. Status

[Name: Kris Chandler]

[Species: Human]

[Level: 1 (10/100)]

[Strength:2]

[Dexterity:2]

[Vitality:1]

[Intelligence:5]

[Wisdom:4]

[Skills: N/A]

[Would host like to open Starter Gift Pack x1 ?]

Yes

[Congratulations! You have received: Weapon Roulette x1, Armor Roulette x1, Item Roulette x1, Unique Skill Roulette x1, and 500 SC]

System, open all of them starting with the Item Roulette.

[Congratulations! You have received: Lucky Bead (Rare), Sturdy Steel Spear (Uncommon), Leather Chest-piece (Common), and Battle Sense (Epic). System advises the host to equip the obtained items through the use of the 'Inventory' function.]

Inventory

A large holographic screen appeared in front of me, it had two rows of ten slots and the rest of the slots had small lock icons on them. Four of the slots contained different icons, little chibi versions of the items themselves I figured. I tapped on a little spear icon.

[Sturdy Steel Spear - Uncommon]

[Attack: 15-30]

[+2 Strength]

[Forged by a skilled smith, this spear will serve its wielder well]

As I tapped a button to equip the spear I suddenly felt a heavy weight in my hand. I set the spear down, thankful for the two strength bonus as otherwise, it might have torn my arm out of its socket. I'd forgotten that I'm occupying the body of a child, not even in my teen years yet.

I tried picking up the spear with both hands and swung it around a few times. I could wield it uncomfortably but would tire quickly while using it. I looked back at his inventory, selecting the armor.

[Leather Chest-piece - Common]

[Defense: 10]

[+1 Vitality]

[A mass produced leather chest-piece made for foot soldiers.]

I equipped it and immediately felt the effect of the other point in vitality. I felt his stamina increase greatly, and I felt much healthier, even though he hadn't eaten anything. Speaking of, I'm still starving and that snake was just lying there... Though I can't eat it raw, and I didn't have any way to start a fire. I had an idea. System, you said I gained SC, what is that?

[SC stands for System Currency. SC can be used in the system's shop to buy nearly anything in existence if you have enough of it.]

By the way system, even if I've read system novels before I really shouldn't have adapted this fast. What's with that?

[Notifying host that when his soul transmigrated the system changed it to adapt better to its new environment.]

It's kinda creepy that it can do that but I suppose in the end it helps me survive. Anyways, time to check out my other things, and then check the store. I looked at the little bead.

[Lucky Bead - Rare]

[Luck +5]

[A bead passed down through generations of thieves, blessing it to bring luck to the user.]

I equipped the lucky bead before looking at the final thing remaining in my inventory. It was a book. I tapped on it.

[Battle Sense - Epic]

[Level: 1]

[Battle Sense is a unique skill that only one in several tens of millions of people are born with. As it levels up it will make the user inherently skilled in the art of fighting, at high levels, every one of the user's moves will be a fighting technique in itself.]

That seems like just the right thing for someone like me with no experience in fighting. System, how do I use the book to gain the skill?

[Host just needs to ask for the skill book to be used]

Alright then, system use the Battle Sense skill book.

[Skill Book: Battle Sense (Epic) has been used]

I picked up the spear and as opposed to before where it felt heavy and awkward, now holding the spear just felt... Right. I swung it around in graceful arcs subconsciously minimizing the amount of unnecessary movement.

[Skill: Spear Mastery (Common) Gained]

I put the spear down and figured the snake wasn't cooking itself.

[System recommends that the host buys the Auto-Cooking function for 50 SC]

Correction. The snake was cooking itself.

Sorry for the short chapters, I'm trying to figure out what works for me and how to write certain stuff so bear with me until i get this off the ground and can do longer chapters. My goal is 2-3 thousand word chapters twice or three times a week. Also, I know the system was sloppily introduced but I couldn't think of a better way to write it.
