58 Don't use your abilities again

During middle school, she did say something about it. He didn't believe her. It's still hard for him to accept that she can see other people's memories. "Wakana, did you…" See the worst night of his life?

Don't ask. He retracts his hands when he hears a whisper in his mind. His father killed his mother before committing suicide. If she had really seen that memory, he doesn't know how to face her. Knowing that he's a son of a murderer is different from actually seeing the crime happen. If he asks her and she says yes, he doesn't know how to look in her eyes again.

"Hmm?" Wakana reaches for his shoulder when she sees him flinching. "Are you okay?"

"Nothing, I am just…" He takes a breath. "Worried about you. Let's go to the hospital for a check-up."

Wakana shudders at the thought of going to the hospital. Hospitals are full of ghosts. "Sei, I am fine. I don't need to go to the hospital."

"You didn't see yourself last night." He grimaces at her. "What if it is something serious?"

"I am fine. There is nothing wrong with me." She holds his hands and looks into his brown eyes, assuring him. "It was just a night terror."

He also thinks that. However, Choi Minho looked sick when he was leaving. Is it related to her ability? "Did you use your ability yesterday?"

Did she? Wakana scratches her head. She doesn't remember doing anything like that. Choi Minho was also with her. "I told you that there are times when I can't use my ability. Mr Choi said that it's a timeout period or reset time."

That Choi Minho… Sei purses his lips into a thin line. Should he tell her everything that happened last night? He should talk to that person before that. Why did that man say that he would die if he touches Wakana? At the moment, neither he nor that man is dead after touching Wakana. But… Choi Minho looked a little sick when he was walking toward the door. "If it happens again, I want you to go to the hospital."

"I will." Wakana grins at him. "I will do my best to not make you worry again."

He shakes his head at her. "It's my job to worry about you. Tell me anything that happens. Don't use your ability.  Being able to sense or see ghosts is more than enough."

"That's why I wear gloves." Wakana glances at her hands, stiffening in the next instant. The blood on her hands is hot as if she just killed someone. A feeling crawls under her skin, gnawing on something inside her body. The cooling sensation returns, pushing down something down. The blood disappears, leaving an unfamiliar emptiness in her mind.

"Good." Sei flicks her forehead when he sees her falling into a daze. "Don't start daydreaming. Get ready. We have so much work today."

"Ah, yes." She wipes her hands on the blanket and gives him a tight smile. Something like this has never happened before. Did she dream about someone's memory yesterday night? Could it be Okuyama family's murder? She must have touched something in Okuyama's mansion. She should have been careful.

"Don't use your abilities again," He looks at her intently and squeezes her hands. "Promise me."

Wakana chews her lips. She can't make that promise. When she joined the supernatural investigation agency, she didn't want to be afraid of her abilities anymore. "Sei, I can't make that promise."

"You said that you get sick whenever you use your abilities." He wrinkles his eyebrows and raises his voice, feeling anxious. "What if something serious happens to you?"

"It doesn't always happen." Wakana sighs. He's acting like his father and sister. "I wouldn't have passed the physical examination of the police recruitment exam if I had a weak constitution. Besides, I am sure that I was only having a nightmare yesterday. If I had used my ability, I would have remembered it."

He could understand what she's trying to say. However, he can't just watch her getting sick each time she uses her ability. He has to speak to that man about her abilities and what happened yesterday night. "I have to leave. Nishimura Sama and I plan to go to the hospital today."

"I also have to go to the gravesite with Choi-san." She checks the time on her phone and exclaims in horror, "We are so late!"

"I am heading to my room." He wonders why she booked a different room for and left his things there. They could have shared the room anyway. Aren't they together already? He doesn't voice his complaints and leaves with a grumpy face. She's still an idiot.

Nishimura Soichiro puts down the newspaper on the table. He's the only one here. The other three members of the agency are late. The waitress puts down the third cup of tea on the table, wondering if this man is a loner or a lunatic. He's been talking to himself and smiling alone.

"Would you believe that the head of the department has to wait for his juniors?" He leans back in the chair and smiles at the waitress.

"Uh… I am sure that they will be here soon." She gives him a polite smile and scurries away from the table.

"Why did I become the head of this good-for-nothing agency?" Nishimura Soichiro puts his elbow on the handle of the chair and holds his chin. He's been aware of the hidden world for a long time. Anyway, he should enjoy the peace as long as he can.
