23 Chapter 21: Fenris

She had been gone for a week, one whole entire week, and she couldn't take it anymore. Not only was Fenris desperate to see Annabelle, but she couldn't take being around her family anymore. She couldn't even ask Ray how Annabelle was because she apparently dropped her phone when she was flying over the mountains.

Tuesday night Fenris had decided to stay when her parents told her they had gotten a lead of an old journal that was rumored to have belonged to the first demon King Isaiah. However her parents needed someone to watch Jonah, and when she had said she would just get the journal herself they said no. So in the end her parents somehow tricked her into watching Jonah, knowing how desperate she was for an answer to her problem. They told her the whole trip would take them at the most three days, so to enjoy the time with Jonah.

So, trying to keep an optimistic mindset Fenris decided to have a fun day of games and pizza with Jonah, try normal sibling activities. That idea went wrong when they decided to play a board game and had chosen battleship, Jonah had cheated every turn by not putting the pieces on the board. Getting annoyed Fenris decided on a video game that would be hard to actually cheat in, Super Smash Bros. After Fenris had won the first two rounds is when the night went from bad to catastrophic. Jonah had become so angry when she won he had flung the controller at the tv cracking it clear in the middle. Becoming even more enraged at that Jonah grabbed the tv, and yelled many incoherent words before chucking it at the adjacent wall, and putting a decent size hole in it. Then like he didn't just do that he walked up to his room and slammed the door.

Fenris had stared wide eyed at the tantrum, controller still in her hand, the only thought running through her head [What the hell just happened. I've only been alone with him for two hours and he's already destroyed the house. How am I going to explain this.]

After that Fenris had decided to put space between her and Jonah, letting him do whatever he wanted, as long as it was away from her. Funny thing was when their parents got home Friday night they didn't seemed fazed when she told them there was a hole in the wall and that Jonah was the one that did it. Fenris decided to just shrug it off since she wouldn't be around much longer.

Her parents had been able to successfully retrieve the journal, but it was in the ancient language of the demons, meaning only demons could read it. However it had also been written in a older speech pattern, meaning that even though Fenris could read it her mother was the only one how knew what it was saying. So it had taken another two days to translate the journal into a more modern speech pattern.

They had found out the journal never belonged to Isaiah. Instead it had belonged to one of his children, a man by the name of Cason. What made the journal so amazing is that it states Cason was like Fenris, a hybrid between a wolf and demon who had the power of both, and thankfully Cason appeared to write down all of his thoughts.

The last few pages had the answer to Fenris' problem, Cason had found his mate about a year before the entries to the journal stop, and explained everything. When Cason had meet his mate, Sophia, they had both felt the bond, and just like Fenris and Annabelle neither of them received their markings. So Cason and Sophia went and talked to his parents to figure out why.

His mother Celeste had told him that, "In order for you to receive your markings you need to accept each other fully. Cason your wolf and demon need to both completely accept Sophia's wolf, and Sophia your wolf needs to accept both Cason's demon and wolf. Your marks haven't appeared because only your wolves have met and accepted each other, Sophia you still have to meet and accept Cason's demon. You two need to meet in the way that demons find their mates."

That was why they didn't have their marks, Fenris' demon and Annabelle's wolf hadn't officially accepted each other, and so once they kissed they should both receive their mark. The question was, how was Fenris going to convince Annabelle to kiss her, she already said they weren't mates.

So Fenris laid on the bed in the guest bedroom trying to come up with a plan. So lost in thought she almost didn't hear her mother come in.

"Fenris." her mother called out to her. Fenris looked up at her, waiting for her to continue. "I was going over the journal again and I saw that it looked like one of the pages was glued to the back cover." Sitting down next to Fenris she handed her a folded up piece of paper. "I found this."

Sitting up Fenris took the paper and unfolded it seeing it was written in Cason's handwriting. She had to read it multiple times, not being able to grasp what it was saying.

Cason had wrote that there were people trying to kill him and Sophia when it was announced that they were expecting a child. It said they believed the child would bring about the end of the world, but doesn't explain why they think that. The last thing he wrote is a what looked like a prophecy.

'The mate who has two souls and the mate who will hold two souls shall be ripped from each other every time they meet. Death can't stop their love but it shall always keep them apart. Enemies surround them ready to break them. Only the acts of repentance and forgiveness can break the cycle.'

"Fenris, I think you might be the reincarnation of Cason, and Annabelle the reincarnation of Sophia. If that's true, you two might die soon."

"No, no, you can't know that."

"Fenris your a powerful hybrid just like him, and of both wolf and demon like him. But, I think you can stop the cycle."

Fenris clutched the paper and looked at her mother, fear evident in her eyes. She didn't want to accept it, but she felt it was true. "How do I stop it, what does it mean by repentance?"

"My guess is that something happened before Cason and Sophia died, something that has to be admitted and forgiven."

"Do you know what that could be?"

"No I don't. This is the only writing to ever mention Cason, but if I'm right about you being his reincarnation than I don't think you have a lot of time before one or both of you die."

Fenris jumped off the bed and started pacing back and forth, her wings kept furling and unfurling knocking things over, her demon side on edge with little bursts of fire igniting in her hands. "How do I find out about an even that isn't known or even written about? I mean Cason was alive like a thousand years ago." she growled, putting her long black hair up that was now annoying her.

"Actually I think I know how." her mother said, stopping Fenris in her tracks, hands still on her head, and looked at her mother.

"How?"

"Well me and your father came across a vampire who was created around that time. We found out that she became close friends to one of the other children born to Celeste and Isaiah. She might not know what happened, but if she's still alive she might be able to tell you something."

Fenris ran to her backpack and started to throw the spare clothes her mother bought her in it. "Where does she live?"

"Last I heard she actually lived over near you."

Fenris zipped up the bag, put it on her front, and ran through the house. Slamming open the front door she ran flapping her large black wings rapidly and took off. As she flew away she heard her mother yelling at her to be careful.
