Where is Everybody?

Kyle opened his eyes but couldn't see anything. It was dark as a tomb. His head was killing him and he sat up. What new place had he wound up in?

"Sif, Sif you here?" He didn't hear a response. Kyle slowly stood up and felt in the dark. He was having trouble focusing otherwise he would have used his energy to increase his senses.

He finally felt a wall, it was cold and metallic. Suddenly, his head started spinning and he fell to the ground and started throwing up. He felt terrible. He finally collapsed on the ground and lost consciousness again.

He didn't know how long we remained unconscious this time, he could feel some cold liquid under his face. It smelled terrible. Oh, it was his throw up! He barfed again.

He wanted to retrieve a towel from his bag of holding but he couldn't concentrate enough. He slowly got up once more and found the cold metallic wall once more.

He kept his right hand and walked along the wall. It almost felt like he was walking in a circle. Was he really so disorientated that he couldn't tell if he was going straight or in a circle?

He continued stumbling forward and felt a sudden depression in the wall. He nearly fell forward but caught himself. He felt the depression and discovered, it was actually a door!

It wasn't locked so he turned the handle and opened it. When he walked through the doorway he was immediately blinded by lights, he couldn't open his eyes and turn away from the outside.

He stood there for a few minutes as his eyes got used to the light. He finally opened them.

"How? How did I come here?" He shouted in surprise.

Kyle was in the Miras training building on Earth! He looked around and saw that he was exiting the cylinder room he used to travel to Miras.

"I'm back home?" He asked out loud.

"Obviously, you're back on Earth," Gramps said. Standing in the door, Gramps was looking at Kyle with his typical impatient stare.

"Gramps, I'm back! Where's Sif? What happened? Where is everyone? He asked a series of questions.

"I don't know, I just woke up as well. A few minutes ago before you started barfing all over the place. You're cleaning that up by the way," Gramps said.

"Wait, I thought you could split your mind between here and the system," Kyle said.

"I can if you're on Miras, but you obviously weren't on Miras so I got sucked along on your little adventure,"

"Really?" he said.

"No, idiot, I was taking a nap," Gramps said briskly as he left the room.

"Wait, what happened to Siff?" Kyle asked again.

"I don't know. You got sucked into an interdimensional gate. She could be anywhere. You came back here because your spirit body is anchored to your body.

As soon as you left that world; it was like letting go of one end of a rubber band. You snapped right back here," Gramps said.

"Do you think Sif went home?" Kyle asked.

"I told you I don't know, kid, let it go! She could have gone home, but she probably went wherever the destination point for the dimensional gate was at," Gramps said.

"Well, where was the destination point going to?" Kyle asked. Gramps stopped and slowly turned around and looked at him.

"Do the words "I DON'T KNOW" many anything to you in English? Should I use a different language?" Gramps was completely annoyed with Kyle.

"Well, how..." Kyle began.

"I'm not saying another word to you until you clean up yourself and the cylinder room. You reak of puke! I'm about to throw up, hurry, and get cleaned up.

Make sure the cylinder room is clear of your scent!" He commanded.

Kyle pulled his puke soaked cape to his nose and smelled it. It did smell awful, and he started gagging. Luckily, he was able to hold on this time.

A couple of hours later, Kyle found Gramps in his private office and sat down in front of him. He was much calmer, much cleaner, and smelled much better.

"What can you tell me," Kyle asked.

"The planet, Regloe, that you were on is a much more dangerous world than Miras. On Miras, if you died you would come back here.

Due to various technical reasons which I won't go into; if you died on Regloe you would have died completely. No coming back for you," Gramps explained.

Shocked didn't begin to explain Kyle's feelings about this information. He always acted carefully. He wasn't used to the idea that he couldn't really die on Miras so that probably helped him stay alive.

"Rajinn created a dimensional gate that was capable of taking him to any dimensional world he desired. I have no idea where the other end was supposed to open.

It's unlikely he was coming here as there are no records of a Rajinn on this planet. It's my theory that everyone who was sucked into the gate went with Rajinn.

It's also possible that some of them wound up on this world, but because you weren't touching them they are here somewhere. Frankly, either possibility is just as likely.

If it makes you feel better, just assume Sif is on Earth somewhere," Gramps said.

"How long have I been gone, on Earth I mean?" Kyle asked. He was trying not to worry about Sif and the others he saw sucked into the dimensional gate.

"You've been gone a couple of extra weeks, but I was able to explain to everyone that you were in the middle of a break threw, so no one is too worried about you.

Kyle was relieved. He had worried for a long time that his mother wouldn't know where he was, and maybe Gramps would have to explain the whole crazy system things to her.

"Maybe I could make a trip to Miras real quick and see if Siff is there?" Kyle half-asked half-suggested to Gramps.

"I can't send you there, for now, space and time tunnels are shut for repairs. This dimensional gate did a real number on our space and time tunnels," Gramps said.

Kyle was completely dejected and worried. How could he move forward when he didn't even know how Sif was?

"Listen, kid, I'm sure your girlfriend is fine. When I hear something I'll let you know. For now, got back to your room and have a nice sleep.

Pack up your things and I'll take you back home tomorrow.

Your body is fixed and I even have a special gift for you," Gramps said.

"Gift?" He asked.

"Get to your room and you'll see it there," Gramps said with one of his rare kind smiles.

It was moments like this that made Kyle realize Gramps was probably a caring human being. It's just that he was also a cantankerous old grouch too!

After everything was said and done, he was excited to go home. He missed his family, especially his mother.
