88 A Simple Life

Deer pranced about a peaceful forest. Birds were singing. Crickets chirping. A quiet day.

Whud! An arrow pierced through a deer's heart. It fell while the others fled.

Among the treetops, there was a man. He was holding a bow and a couple of arrows on his back. He had a small laser pistol attached to the right side of his leg. A knife was tucked away on the other. He wore a cowl and a tunic. He was covered head-to-toe. His face had bandages concealing the sides of his face and neck. Bandages and wrapping also covered his arms and legs. He had a black top and facial hair, but looked to be around 40 years old.

And his eyes were yellow.

He made no attempt to smile, but he wasn't sad, either. Nor angry. There was no emotion within him. From a quick glance at him, nobody would even suspect that he felt completely dead. He leapt himself off of the treetop and fell to the ground gracefully. He looked at the deer in the eyes. It still let out some breaths. The man took out his knife and it was made with black dragon scales. He slit the deer's throat quickly and carried it off. The birds still sung their songs. The ladybugs flew around. Compared to the monsters that he had to deal with before, the wild beasts in this world were far less of a threat.

Akai walked off carrying the carcass on one shoulder.
