1 Creation

Frustration. Despair. Anger. Seth thought that this kind of emotions would not bother him anymore. Never could he imagine that his first spirit-resident is a fish. A small orange fish.

"My life ... ruined. How should I ... I .... conquer the world with a sh***y goldfish ...." tears ran down his cheeks, taking away all the color from his blue eyes. A gentle breeze blew through his white hair and suddenly a cold shiver ran down his back. He remembered what his mother used to say about life and how hard it is. He remembered how hard his life was after he lost his parents. He remembered his life in the military orphanage. Memories of the stormy night 10 years ago surfaced.

Seth saw himself how he opened the front door in a windy night, filled by the sound of raindrops. Instead of his parents, a bulky man in uniform greeted him. He saw himself crying. This was the first time he felt despair and anger. Time passed, and he saw himself again, kneeling in front of a military graveyard. This time he could hear his younger self clearly. He could hear his childish oath that he will conquer the world in order to prevent more useless victims. Seth swore that he will become powerful enough to stop this useless wars. Time passed again. As a result, he could see his life in the orphanage and the exhausting lessons.

Suddenly something strange happened and Seth could see one of his first history lessons.

"50000 years ago humans discovered the existence of something mysterious. The human body would accumulate a small amount of energy after an excessive amount of training. Many people tried to use this energy but were not successful. It took humans 5000 years to discover the possibility to accumulate the new energy to a certain amount in order to open worldlinks. Back then people described worldlinks as small gates that humans can feel in their body with the help of the mysterious energy. This discovery changed human society completely. The reason for that was the function of worldlinks. They made it possible for humans to absorb this energy and to use it to strengthen the body parts around a worldlink. As a result, people began to train their bodies, becoming stronger and stronger. Surprisingly they found out that their lifespan would also be increased.

They named the newly gained power deusorbis and focused all their resources on the research in this area."

The teacher paused to look in the class. Astonishment filled the eyes of the students. Convinced by his teaching methods the history teacher Mister Flair continued.

"Another 5000 years later a researcher found out that he could connect worldlinks with the help of small strings formed from deusorbis. He called them after himself Samuel-lines.

Later people discovered the possibility to form simple patterns with them, gaining a better connection to the deusorbis than through the worldlinks. As a result, deusorbis constellations were created. One of the first patterns was the "spiritual-palace", discovered by an old monk."

Mr. Flair stopped and opened a small tattered suitcase. He searched for a while and found an even older looking book, covered in an ancient pattern which resembles a door. Without delay, Mr. Flair began to read one of the first pages of the book.

"He opened ten worldlinks:

Two in his eyes to better see the spirit.

Two in his ears to better hear the spirits.

One in his tongue to taste the spirit in everything.

One in each shoulder to bear the weight of the spirit.

One in each palm to feel the spirit.

One in his heart to understand the spirit.

After that, he started to connect the worldlinks with Samuel-lines. As a result, the created pattern resembled a simplistic house, with the worldlink in his heart as a window. The monk was able to use this to connect with the world of spirits. Many other people followed his example and a new type of caster was born - the summoner. Summoners are able to get the help from spirits. They can achieve this either with a spirit-contract or with brute force compelling the spirits to work for them."

Mister Flair sighed and closed the book again.

In the meantime an orphan raised his hand, waiting to ask the teacher a question. Mr. Flair was surprised by the rare occasion and gave the children a glance full of expectation.

Encouraged the boy asked:" Mr. Flair, what is a caster?" The teacher was stupefied and seemed to be lost in his thoughts for a moment. His eyes narrowed, and he answered: "Caster is just the name for people with worldlink."

Dispirit by his class, Mr. Flair continued.

"Sadly nowadays there are only a few persons left who want to choose the path of a summoner. The reasons for that are simple. First of all, summoners need only ten worldlinks. For people with poor talent, who can only open a few worldlinks that might be a good choice but for the majority, the path of a summoner will only limit their future. A variety of more complex pattern emerged in history that needed even more worldlinks. Most deusorbis user would prefer to open at least 50 worldlinks because this means more strength and as a result of that more influence and a higher life expectation. Furthermore, it is really hard to form a contract with a spirit these days and coupled with that it is even harder to nurture the spiritual-resident..."

"AHOOUU." Seth came back to mind. The sky was already dark and his body cold and stiff from the freezing night. The roar remembered him that he should return to the orphanage. Seth felt his weak body. Furthermore, he mocked himself for not being strong enough to decide about his own fate. Tomorrow he would turn 16 and would be able to apply for the military school. If he would not be able to gain a place to study, his future would end underground. The orphanage would kick children at age of 16 out because they would be able to work in the mine. Not to mention, the orphanage would not be able to afford the space and the money for more orphans.
