Her New Chapter

Mia stared at Carson waiting for him to say "who are you."

"M-mia? Where am I?" Carson said in a scratchy, unused voice.

"Baby, you're in the hospital... You shot yourself." Mia said gingerly.

"Oh.. How long have I been here?" Carson asked.

"Oh, that.. You've been out for like four months." Mia said softly.

"Oh... And you've waited for me to wake up all this time?" Carson said sadly.

"Of course, baby." Mia said tearing up slightly. "I didn't leave your side at all." Mia smiled at him. Carson pulled her down into the hospital bed with him, putting her in his lap. She put her arms around his neck, burrowing her head into his chest. "I love you." mumbled Mia.

"I love you, too" Carson replied. Carson glanced at his parents with a smile and they smiled back at him with tears welling up in their eyes. "Um... I can't move my legs..." Carson said with a frown.

"Oh crap." Mia said sitting up and looking down on him. She pushed the nurse call button next to his bed.

A nurse entered their room clipboard in hand staring down at the clipboard. "What did you need." she said looking up at Carson. "Oh! Oh oh oh! Y-you're.. Awake!" the nurse said with delight. "Doctor Ross!" she yelled out the door.

"Yes nurse?" He said. "Oh! Carson! You're awake! That's wonderful!" He said. Mia cursed under her breath and glared at him. "Anyway.. What did you need Carson?"

"Um.. I can't move my legs.. Or feel them for that matter." Carson replied his arms wrapped around Mia's waist.

"Oh.. Yeah that is to be expected... Bad news you're bottom half is paralyzed." Doctor Ross said. There was silence and worry throughout the room. Mia held Carson closer and started crying.

"It's okay Mia we'll figure it out.. We always do." Carson said rubbing her back.

"We're going to keep you here for a couple weeks, maybe months, then you can have a choice of either go to physical therapy to try and walk again or you can stay paralyzed and just use a wheelchair." Doctor Ross said and left the room. Carson and Mia just looked at each other.

"For now this is enough." Mia said with a smile. She touched her cheek to his. "I love you, Carson."

"I love you too Mia." Carson said back. Carson scooted over on the bed a little to make room for Mia to sleep on his bed with him. Mia now under the covers but her arms around his abdomen and fell asleep for the first time in months.
